Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

It was funny and smart at the same time. It’s a good start to the series
Finally! The answer to life, the universe…and EVERYTHING.
remember this book was written before www. was working the humor is great
Fabulously funny.
One of my all time favorite escapist reads. And yet, some of his wry observations about human behavior have stayed with me over 30 years later!
Iconic. My favorite book of all time. Awesome mix of science fiction and humor. I own three copies – in different formats.
Fun to read and has an unpredictable plot. A very enjoyable book.
a true classic
I read this book years ago, in my teen years, and thought I’d pick it up again for a fun read. Honestly, I was kinda disappointed. I know I need to give it credit for being the OG-Original Galaxy- but there have been so many fun, intelligent, well-written books in this genre since then that this just wasn’t that funny. There are some classic parts …
Loved the entire series
What can I say but what a fun read! In the movie Alan Rickman voiced Marvin!
A funny trip through space with the writer of a tourism guide. Notice Earth is mostly harmless.
I have no words that can describe this book or comment on the writing of the late Douglas Adams. All I can say is that he opened a world for me through this book that I would otherwise think impossible.
There were times I had to put this book down because I was laughing so hard I had to rub my eyes.
Pure whimsy. Well told.
I’m not the huge Adams fan some are, but you’re missing a lot if you don’t try his works.
Funny classic!
Just not my style.
Funny, clever and an absolute delight to read!
if you only read 1 scifi piece let it be this one
