Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

This is one of my favorite books.
An old favorite!
It was a hilarious book that is way outside of the box!
One of my all-time favorites, I’m glad to get it in e-book format.
I love this book and its sequels.
Read it yesrs ago, in college.
Stupid book!
Obviously I’m securely amidst the vast silent minority who find this book tedious, trite and ‘funny’ in the way that some find Captain Underpants amusing.
One of my favorite books of all time!
A review of such an iconic piece of literature is unneeded.
A must read book
I tried really hard to like this book. After 100 pages I just couldn’t read anymore. It wasn’t bad–it just was hard to follow and bizarre.
There are very few books that have made me laugh out loud. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is one of them. If you appreciate British humor and sci-fi, you will love the quirky and imaginative work of the late Douglas Adams. Warning: this book may cause you to roll on the floor gasping for breath because you are laughing so hard. It is full …
Sci,-fi classic
What a hoot! Love English humor.. and my favorite character is Marvin…
It’s Informative in the sense that it provides a great reference should you ever venture on a wild quest through the stars, intentionally or, as in Arthur’s case, unintentionally. It all started with the construction workers wanting to destroy his home…. And, if you want to reach some sort of conclusion, “The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide…” with …
A bit wacky but a fun and quick read.
If you like Monty Python you will love Douglas Adams
Hilarious, had me laughing to tears. Have reread the whole series 5 times.
One of my all time favorites! Clever, funny and original.
