Anna Campbell is a master storyteller. The dramatic events to introduce characters is a shipwreck, which immediately draws the reader in. I became invested in the book and it’s characters from the start. As the story unfolds the gripping storyline keeps you enthralled and in suspense to find out what to expect next. The heroes pursue the heroine’s abusive family and try to retrieve her kidnapped daughter. Steamy sex scenes add to the mix making this an extremely beautiful addition to the series and the genre. If you like romance you’ll love this read. I did.
I always enjoy Anna Campbell’s books, and this one continues the Laird’s Most Likely series with another dashing hero and admirable heroine. It is a little darker and more emotional than the first two books in the series, but since I like some grit with my historical romance that drew me deeper into the story. Fiona, the heroine, battled her past hurts with courage and determination, and Diarmid was a true hero. If you love some Scottish flair with your historical romance, pick up The Highlander’s Lost Lady today.
Diarmid Mactavish the Laird of Invertavey is out on a horse ride when he discovers a boat crash. He quickly realizes that out of the two persons laying on the shore the woman is alive. He struggles to get her to remain alive and home to take care of her. She wakes up and claims that she does not remember anything. Diarmid does not believe that she is telling the truth.
Fiona Grant is from the Grant clan that is enemies to the Mactavish family. Fiona is a widow that escaped the evil clutches of her clan before she can be married off again and to save her daughter from the same fate that she suffered. She is at first afraid of Diarmid because even though her clan is evil she believed that he was a horrible man just because the clans were enemies. She lies to try to keep everyone safe except it backfires on her and Diarmid has to rescue her back from her clan. The adventure and romance are intertwined the whole book.
I liked most of the characters in the Mactavish clan. They seemed to all be nice, ready to help those who are in need, and good morals. Fiona was a strong woman and willing to work hard for those she trusted. I enjoyed the book. I had a hard time putting it down.

Third in a larger series and so good that I plan on going back to the first two to complete the stories of other characters that appear in Fiona and Diarmid’s story. Washed up on the shore of her family’s sworn enemy, Fiona fakes amnesia to buy time to heal and then escape to search for and save her young daughter taken by her cruel clansmen. Diarmid knows she is lying and he hates liars, but he is still drawn to this woman. The resulting love story is touching and well worth your time! I received this book from eBook Discovery. Diarmid Mactavish’s life is ordered and despite his family’s past, he is generally content. Discovering widow Fiona Grant unconscious on his strip of windswept beach upends all his plans and changes his life irrevocably. Fiona’s focus is on one thing only, and that is to rescue her daughter, Christine. Falling into enemy hands seems like a disaster but Fiona quickly finds that she is receiving more nurturing and respect from the Mactavishes than she ever had at the hands of her own clan. Diarmid is furious when he discovers that Fiona has lied to him when her family comes to retrieve her, but a gentle word in his ear has him racing after her to rescue her once again. Two reluctant people experience the pull of attraction, despite their previous vows to themselves and when they have to work together to find Christine, respect, and trust work their way into the relationship. I have read the previous two books in this series, and it was enjoyable meeting up with the other characters once again. This romance is well written, suspenseful and fast-paced. It is also a standalone and comes a very successful and happy conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Diarmid Mactavish, Laird of Intertavey in the Scottish Highlands, is out for an early morning ride when he discovers the body of a man on the beach who’s obviously drowned. Nearby is another one, a woman who is still alive. After reviving her, she tells him that she has no memory of who she is or where she’s from. Secretly, Fiona Grant knows full well her identity but has always been taught that the Mactavishes are mortal enemies of the Grants and not to be trusted even though she’s fleeing the brutish Grant clan. And, she’s in search of her 9-year daughter who they took away from her almost a year ago.
One of the things I’m enjoying about the series are the strong heroines. Fiona has suffered greatly but instead of being a victim she became stronger and more resilient. Diarmid carries some baggage because of his mother’s betrayal of him and his father so he’s definitely suspicious of the beautiful Fiona and brings that to the relationship. While they’re both drawn to each other, the tension comes from their struggles to get beyond their suspicions and develop trust. Fiona had a terrible past that was slowly revealed through the course of the story. It made for a much more interesting reading experience even though I was anxious to learn everything right away.
It makes such a difference when you like both characters despite their stubbornness and missteps. These two were well crafted. Diarmid doesn’t always do the right thing but his heart’s in the right place. Likewise for Fiona and every decision she makes is for her daughter’s sake. I loved the mix of mystery, suspense, romance and place in this story. Campbell always gets the vernacular correct, making you feel like you’re in the era and in the Scottish hillsides. This was a lovely story even in the tough moments. I hated to see this one end.

I am loving this series, MS Campbell never disappoints me with her written words they flow from the pages, she brings her characters to life, makes me cheer for them cry with them and smile with them, this time back in the highlands we get to know Diarmid and the woman who will steal his heart Fiona Grant, make yourself comfortable for this fabulous journey to a HEA that will leave you feeling so good.
Diarmid Mactavish, Laird of Invertavey is very happy being single after his childhood that is until he rescues a beautiful woman who has been washed up on the beach, this woman claims to have no knowledge of who she is and Diarmid is convinced she is lying and that there is more to her story. But he is drawn to her in many ways and is determined to save her and get to the bottom of the mystery and try not to lose his heart along the way.
Fiona Grant is in dire straits, she is a mother and will do anything to save her daughter, she has been treated dreadfully by her family over the years and now she appears to have fallen into another man’s world, but as she gets to know this man she sees that not all men are cruel, Diarmid offers to help rescue her daughter and along the way he teaches Fiona what love is.
MS Campbell you know how to write a story that captures the reader, makes them feel like they are in the Scottish Highlands, this one is truly lovely, I fell so hard for hero Diarmid what a man, what a hero and Fiona the strength and courage she shows after all that she has been through made this a story that was very hard to put down. This story is so very moving, emotional and so beautifully sensual, a must read thank you so much I loved this one so much.
The is the third in the The Lairds Most Likely series and I must say it is my favourite. I found it hard to put down. I love the adventure and suspense. I found Fergus the perfect sweet gentleman who was a knight in shining armour and Fiona the innocent maiden who was tough and honourable. It was beautifully written about two hurt and lost souls who find love in each other. There was a couple of sex scenes that this reviewer skipped most of as usual, but what I did read was well written and very appropriate for the storyline. It was lovely to catch up with characters from the past books in the series and see how their lives where moving on. I received this as ARC and did my review freely.
Anna has done it again! A braw honorable handsome Highlander and a courageous Lady. Every time I read an Anna Campbell Highland Historical Romance I am transported to the Highlands of Scotland, the beautiful beaches, lochs, and mountains. You imagine you can smell the heather and taste the scotch whiskey. Her captivating characters are what truly make her books so wonderful. You can tell that she really loves her characters and puts all of her heart into these stories.
Diamid Mactavish, Laird of Invertavey is taking his daily ride on the beach when he comes across two bodies sprawled on the beach. The man is dead but the woman is still alive. They must have wreaked on the rocks and the bodies washed up on the beach. He takes the woman back to his home and summons the doctor. When the young woman regains consciousness she does not remember her name or why she was found on the beach. She is beautiful, an observation that does not escape Diarmid. He is a good judge of character and suspects that she is not telling the truth. He is willing to wait for her to tell him the truth of who she was and why she wound up on his beach.
Fiona Grant wakes and finds herself in the home of her Clan’s bitter enemy. Everything is going wrong. She escaped from her late husband’s cruel abusive brothers and set out in a small fishing boat to go find her daughter. Her brother in law had taken her daughter hostage so that she will marry him. She has no intention of cooperating. She escaped and was going to rescue her daughter no matter what she had to do. She has no money, weapons or mode of transportation, but she is not beaten yet. She was married when she was 15 to a much older man who abused her for years. The only comfort that she had was her daughter. After he died she tried to run with her daughter, but her brother in law had other plans. Now she has to find a way to escape from Invertavey and rescue her daughter. She is so tired and doesn’t know where to turn.
Diarmid will do what any gentleman and Scot would do. He takes her into his home for her to recuperate. He can see that she has been abused and she is at the end of her rope. He wants to help her, but she has to learn to trust him with the truth.
Diamid and Fiona will take a journey that will test their strengths, their minds, and their hearts. Can Fiona trust him? She has not had a peaceful day in years and doesn’t understand why Diarmid is being so kind. Her experience is that men take what they want with force and care nothing if they hurt her. This is a story of two people who have lived two completely different lives, one who has known kindness and love and one who has only known pain and cruelty. Can they find common ground or maybe even love? I really enjoyed this story and know you will too!! Anna has the best Highlanders!
She may have been lost but she found the right path…
I’ve always been a fan of historical romances but add in a Highlander and I’m normally verra, verra happy. Each page turned, I was comfortable in my reading experience. The Highlander’s Lost Lady flowed in a way that was what I expected, but also what I desired. I need my hero to be a Knight in Highlander Armour who saves his Lost Lady. I want the heroine to be miserable, vulnerable and Lost, so she’ll love her Highlander Knight when he saves the day. The baddie needs to be despicable and a nightmare no one would want to be around, so when he is vanquished, leaves you satisfied with his macabre demise. Anna Campbell’s story left me extremely satisfied and I achieved my reading happy place.
Diarmid, Laird of Invertavey, cannot believe his eyes when he finds a mermaid washed up on his beach. Well, he’s not really surprised to find another victim of the sea washed up, unfortunately. What he is surprised about is that the frail beauty is still alive, unlike the elder gentleman who washed up beside her. Knowing that every minute she’s exposed to the weather could be dangerous to her health, he rushes to bring her home with him. Diarmid feels guilt when he accepts his attraction to her beauty and recognises he feels protective towards the Lost Lady.
All seems lost when Fiona realises she’s been shipwrecked at her enemies feet. The plans she’s made to escape her nightmare have been ruined, and if her rescuer finds out her identity, it could make things even worse. The Mactavish’s are not at all as she expected her enemies to be. They are kind, generous and caring which is something she hasn’t been exposed to since her father passed. With her nightmare taking this surprising turn, Fiona is not sure she has the strength or courage to do the one thing she set out to do…save her daughter.
I loved that Diarmid was a good man and stayed honourable from beginning to end. It was a treat that Fiona wasn’t a heroine who could “save the day” one minute, host a soiree the next, AND be a seductress in the bedroom at the end of the day. Fiona is vulnerable and a wee bit broken. I preferred that she was portrayed realistically and that she wasn’t expected to be fixed in a minute or to get over her past. Her journey to happiness had to come with her ability to accept she wasn’t alone anymore.
While some readers may find The Highlander’s Lost Lady a wee bit predictable, this is what made the story for me. I want a story that takes me back in time to dashing men, coiffed and beautifully dressed ladies and sigh-worthy heroics. Sure, it may not be 100% historically accurate (not that I know what 100% historically accurate is, mind you), but I wasn’t distracted by the “modern” feel. It felt accurate so I guess the author hit the mark.
I will admit, Fiona’s constant crying was a wee bit trying at times, but she had every reason to, considering what she’s faced. Diarmid’s martyr act was a wee bit unbelievable, so I’m glad they worked through their problems by the end. This was a very sexy read, so if you’re not a fan of intimate scenes with a lot of heat, this might not be the best fit for you. There are some difficult scenes from Fiona’s past that can be confronting, but the descriptions were not delved into too deeply. I was never uncomfortable to the extreme, more disgusted by what happened frequently in the past.
If you’re looking for an entertaining read, I highly recommend giving The Highlander’s Lost Lady a try.
