The Highlander’s Honorable Savior by Emilia Ferguson gives us the adventure we know that Emilia can give us, but the love story that catches our interest.
Bonnie is a poor, abused, neglected and orphan young lady who doesn’t trust anyone, especially men. She has lived off the streets and seen things that she shouldn’t have. Trusting is not one of the things she wants to change as it keeps her alive.
Arthur is a sailor who is coming home to his native home, Scotland. He hasn’t had an easy life, but he has made a good one. Saving Bonnie and the adventure that follows, was not in his plans.
Bonnie couldn’t believe anyone would willingly help her, much less keep her safe. Learning to trust Arthur proved to be a challenge.
Keeping safe was only part of the adventure these two had and their journey kept me reading to find out if Bonnie could learn to trust and if Arthur had the patience to wait for it.
Another great Scottish historical romance by Emilia Ferguson who once again brings well developed characters in Arthor and Bonnie. She does a fantastic job taking you back to the day with her descriptive writing and detailed scenes and moves the story at a steady , filling it with intrigue, danger and brings an exciting story. It’s a sweet romance that had me hooked from start to finish reading. Highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Arthur had finally arrived in the land he was born. He had not been here for over ten years. There were a lot of people on the docks. Refugees. You could see soldiers and house guards standing around.
He couldn’t believe that it was War. He went to a pub with one of the men from his ship. As he was sitting there sipping on his Beer, feeling uncomfortable because they would not leave the barmaid alone. He had never force himself on a woman who did not want him.
Bonnie was hiding dockside. The pub was no longer safe. She used to live near Sterling, But with the defeat of the English, they went throughout the town burning and killing. She was boarded with Mrs. Marwell she hated everyone and her ire and cruelty were reserved especially for Bonnie. Right now she was hiding for two dock workers, they would not give up. All she wanted was to feel safe. Here in this dirty, smelly alley, she met Arthur.
These poor people went through all kinds of horror. She, to feel safe and he to protect her. It was amazing that they managed to stay alive. The author did a great job of keeping all the loose ends together. It was well written, moved smoothly and was very entertaining. The characters were warm and encouraging. I am glad I got the chance to read this novel. It does get a little sexy.
I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
The wonderfully written storyline grabbed my attention from the very first page and the well created characters kept me totally enthralled until the turn of the very last page!
Most romance novels are either rich highland lairds or pampered heiresses that find love.
This one is a little different. Arthur is a regular seaman coming back to his homeland after years away. Bonnie is a refugee from another local village that has been wiped out. They set out on an exciting and wonderful adventure that brings them together into a great love.
