From the bestselling author of the Stolen Bride Series comes a brand new and exciting family saga! For fans of Scottish historical romance, the Sutherland Legacy propels you into the Highlands with tales of daring adventure, irresistible heroes and passion!Lady Greer was a hellion from the moment she could walk. So, when the young woman is forbidden by her father, the Earl of Sutherland, to sail, … her father, the Earl of Sutherland, to sail, she steals a boat and rows it out into the firth anyway. But her relaxing jaunt turns into so much more when a storm ravages the chill waters and the prospect of death is soon upon her.
The last thing Roderick MacCulloch, Laird of Gleann Mórinnse Castle, expects to find while out scouting his property is a soaked lass upon his shores. When she demands he take her back to her clan, he recognizes her as the mischievous lass who taunted him at a festival when they were children. Roderick realizes this might be his chance to have a bit of fun and give Lady Greer a taste of her own medicine
But Roderick’s chance at revenge turns into a merry chase across the Highlands that leads them both to unexpected passion, perilous danger…and maybe even love.

Lady Greer, daughter of Magnus & Arbella, is a hellion and a free spirit that cannot tolerate the thought of being kept from doing what she loves, but that is exactly what happens when her father forbids her to sail. In an act of defiance, she takes her boat out alone and gets caught in a storm.
Roderick McCulloch aka Grim has known more than his share of loss, his mother who died giving birth, his father who was killed in an ambush and his beloved sister Jessica who was a troubled soul who took her own life. Roderick has decided that he is better off without love and the pain it brings, as laird, he has too many people depending on him to lose himself in emotion and the last time he contemplated marriage he was almost crippled for life…
After almost a decade of peace, Ina Ross is starting trouble on the McCulloch lands again – raiding and stealing livestock. Grim needs to restore the stolen property to prove to his clan, he is worthy of the title Laird. After a successful night of retrieving his animals and learning information about Ina, he goes to the beach to think. But he doesn’t find the peace he was seeking, instead he finds Greer, the woman that 2 years ago he considered marrying – until she almost killed him with a spear, on the brink of death. He saves her and takes her to his castle.
The next day he finds her awake and tells her he will take her home – she begs him to take her across land rather than by boat and he agrees. They set out and they each begin to discover how much they have in common and how suited they are. But before they can even think about acting on their feelings they will have to overcome ambushes, a demented villain, angry fathers and misunderstandings.
I thought this was a good addition to the Sutherland Legacy and it was nice to catch up with Magnus and Arbella as well as Greer’s sisters and brothers. Liam obviously has something going on and I personally can’t wait to read his story. The book was well written and the romance was a very slow burn – I found myself getting annoyed with them both and thinking, just kiss already!! But, overall it was a good book with a lot of emotion, a few laughs, action and a very sweet ending.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review of an eARC that was provided to me.*
I love a feisty heroine and The Highlander’s Hellion delivers!! Lady Greer gives Roderick MacCulloch quite the run for his money. This book has everything: emotion, romance, adventure and passion. You’ll love this story and will not be able to put it down!
An entertaining tale of a spirited young woman named Lady Greer, who didn’t take well to being told “no”. Well, she thinks she’s merely “spirited”, while everyone around her thinks she far worse. On one such occasion, she defied the edict of her father, which landed her in the company of (and at the mercy of)the very attractive Laird Roderick MacCullough. They’d met before, years before, and Roderick remembered Lady Greer as a younger, yet rather troublesome girl. Now she was a woman, and despite their past, his attraction to her is stronger than he wants to admit. But now is his chance at a little bit of tit for tat….
The two become embroiled in an unexpected intrigue that leads to an adventure while Roderick is attempting to protect Lady Greer and return her home. But will she return home that same woman she was when this all began?
This story is a short, fast paced, humorous book and it’s a fun read from start to finish. I highly recommend it!
Roderick “the Grim” MacCulloch, is the Laird of his clan. He had suffered the loss of his younger sister when she was barely sixteen. This experience consumes his soul; as he felt that he had not protected her from the demons that racked her mind and body. Lady Greer, the third child born of the Earl and Countness of Sutherland, was known as a pure hellion. So full of life that she would challenge the young boys of the clans to games and had once speared Roderick in the leg; instead of the fish they were hunting. This in a fascinating book that holds your interest when the lives of Roderick and Greer come together in an exciting adventure. Eliza Knight has written another wonderful adventure full of surprises and Scottish romance.
A quick read filled with the emotional upheaval of dealing with shadows from the past, longing for acceptance, thrilling adventures, the unexpected resurgence of desire for love, and wonderful, spirited characters you can’t help but fall in love with, The Highlander’s Hellion will capture your imagination from the very start as you travel with Roderick and Greer through a multitude of unplanned adventures which reveal their intricate personalities, flaws, and the revelations of their true character. You experience a series of heart pounding adventure and excitement, on the way to your happily ever after. The repartee between Greer and Roderick as well as their thoughts on the subjects at hand are delightful. Another sensational write by Eliza Knight in this third book of the series. I eagerly await the next installment of the life and loves of the wonderful Sutherland family. This one is easy to recommend as it can be read as a stand alone book or as part of the series.
When Roderick sees a body in the surf he runs to help. When he rolls the female body over the last thing he expects to see is Lady Greer the hellion. Roderick and Greer have a past that he would rather forget, but he can’t see to get her out of his mind. From the moment Greer wakes up in Roderick’s bed the adventure begins! I loved Greer, she is so much fun and I loved their interaction. Greer made Roderick come alive and feel. This story was so much fun to read. It was full of adventure, fun, and romance. I have read many books by Eliza Knight and I loved this one! This story is a must read. Definitely five stars!
THE HIGHLANDER’S HELLION by Eliza Knight was such a fun read. It’s a mix of sweet, saucy and swoony. There’s also some added suspense to make things even more interesting. I don’t often read books set in the 13th century, but this book is a reminder that I should.
Greer Sutherland’s exploits land her on a beach owned by Roderick MacCulloch’s clan with only her dog and an oar from the boat she was on before rough weather hit. Roderick discovers her and immediately recognises her; not only did he once contemplate what Greer might be like as a wife but she also has the distinction of having speared him through the thigh a few years ago. Yes, it was accidental but he hasn’t forgotten as the injury still causes him pain.
I loved both Greer and Roderick. Greer is lively, witty and energetic. She understands the realities and harshness of the highland way of life but is happy to be indulged and cared for by her family. As laird of his clan, Roderick carries a large amount of responsibilities but underneath it all he is a kind and caring man. He may be called ‘Grim’ but a few run ins with Greer soon leave him feeling lighter than he thought possible.
As Roderick escorts Greer across the highlands to her home, it gives them an opportunity to clear the air – apologies for spear wounds, you know – and to get to know one another. There’s plenty of chemistry and banter to be had.
The writing was well paced and I appreciated the somewhat artless nature of the characters – it fit within the time period. This was not a time for coyness and tentativeness. Roderick was unpretentious and decisive in his actions as laird, and Greer was open and sincere in communicating her wishes.
THE HIGHLANDER’S HELLION was a wonderful read, and now I need to decide which of the author’s books to read next.
An Adventure as only Eliza Knight can create, prepare to be taken along on a ride with Roderick (aka Grim), a gorgeous highlander and Lady Greer, the feisty lass that almost brought him down! Greer, daughter of the Earl of Sutherland had finally given in and was going to hopefully find a suitable husband soon. But with her rebellious spirit she decides to take one more sail out in the firth and that would be her last. Of course, how do you think that came out? Lets just say she ended being washed up on shore across the firth at Roderick, Laid of Gleann Morinnse castle! Almost drowned, he could not believe who he found! Oh, there was a past between the two and he had a lasting reminder of his last encounter with the lass. Wanting to go home, he takes her on a long journey that makes all kind of mischief for the two.
Full of great banter back and forth, chemistry that almost ignites and that wonderful Scottish brogue, I was totally enchanted with these two and could not wait to see what would happen! Another great addition to this series and cannot wait for the next story!!
The Highlander’s Hellion is another fun, sexy, sweet, & slightly suspenseful addition to the Sutherland Legacy series by Eliza Knight. Again, while each book stands on its own – characters and a few minor events from previous books are mentioned and it’s best to listen to these in order.
I love the way Knight approaches the Grumpy/Sunshine trope with Roderick having a great deal weighing him down but not being cruel/mean to anyone. Greer is a wonderful… well… hellion. While some of her chaos is intentional much is just due to an adventurous spirit. Roderick is equally dismayed and enamored by her behavior. Greer delights in making him smile. They are an adorable couple.
Travels require them to get to know each other better than they did during previous superficial meetings. While there is a misunderstanding that happens, it’s resolved fairly quickly and I continue to appreciate that most of the angst is light and from external forces/situations.
Looking forward to book 4, The Highlander’s Secret Vow.
Narration:
Antony Ferguson continues to be a gem to listen to and a great fit with Knight’s writing. I enjoy his accents and emotions as well as his ability to highlight Knight’s wonderful sense of humor.
Content Warning (may contain spoilers): Suicide. Listeners may want to be aware that the book opens with the immediate aftermath (Roderick finding his sister’s body) & family dealing with it are mentioned, but not belabored.

Great historical read
I REALLY enjoyed getting to read this book. The journey of Greer and Roderick from enemies to lovers is a well-written, fascinating one. I found the characters to be very vibrant and their transition to happily ever after really worked for me. I always learn something new when reading Eliza’s works. She writes incredible, strong heroines and really swoon-worthy men!
(As a disclaimer, I did copy edits on this book, but all opinions are my own.)
I love this series. I could not put this book down. A story of two people who came to love each other after many years. I love how the characters are strong in mind and physic.
Thank you Eliza Knight for these wonderful stories that make me feel like I am there. on the book 4
I love Eliza Knight she’s the best author ever!!!
Very entertaining, easy to read and I love the characters!
I stayed interested and intrigued throughout the whole book. All three of Eliza Knight’s books in this series were so good. Generally the first book is the best and the others are found lacking. But not true with this author. I love her.
