Peace in the glens means war in the bedchamber! Scotland. 1699. In a time of heroes, the greatest hero of all is Callum Mackinnon, Laird of Achnasheen. Brave, reckless, canny, and handsome enough to turn any lassie weak at the knees, Callum is a legend in the wild corner of the Highlands where he rules. Now the young laird is determined to choose a new path for his clan and end the violent feud … and end the violent feud with the Drummonds, a conflict that has painted the glens red with blood for centuries. This means taking Bonny Mhairi Drummond, the Rose of Bruard, as his wife. When negotiations with her pig-headed father break down, Callum seizes matters into his own hands and kidnaps the fairest maiden in Scotland, swearing to make her his own.
Bonny Mhairi is the adored only child of Clan Drummond’s doughty chieftain and she’s inherited all her father’s courage and stubbornness. Not to mention his undying hatred for anyone called Mackinnon. When the Mackinnon chieftain steals her away from her home and vows to woo her into accepting him as her husband, she swears that she’ll never consent to be his bride. But trapped inside her foe’s castle, Mhairi finds it hard to cling to old certainties. She detests her arrogant jailer, even as he sparks a fierce, forbidden hunger in her soul.
Loving the enemy…
As Callum and Mhairi wage their passionate war of hearts, danger, treachery and desire circle closer and closer. When her father’s army masses at the gates of Achnasheen, will Mhairi prove herself a Drummond now and forever? Or will new allegiances trump ancient hatred, as the desperate laird battles to win the lass he loves more than his life?

strong and developed characters. great storyline!
Callum Mackinnon is the Laird of Achnasheen in Scotland. Mhairi Drumond is from his enemy clan and is the only surviving child of the Laird there. They have a very long feud going, so long that no one remembers the exact reason it started. Mackinnon kidnaps Mhairi in hopes of getting her to marry him in attempt to end the bloodshed between their families. He had tried the civil way of asking for her hand by a letter to her father but he believes in the old way and the old grudges. Mhairi is stubborn and fiercely way beyond what is good for her. A couple of times her hatred pushes her to do stupid things that actually could put her life in danger if Mackinnon wasn’t as nice as he was. She even admitted a couple of times if it had been her own clansmen things would not have ended so nice.
There are several adventures in this book. Love stories, heartbreaks and the possibility of war. At one point Mhairi realized that the Mackinnon clan was not as bad as she thought and realized that they might even be nicer than her own clan. A few times Mhairi acted like a giant spoiled brat and I wanted to shake her. But she was entertaining to read about. Mackinnon didn’t always go about his business in a wise way but he was usually patient and had tried to think out his plans really well. Most of the time they were well thought out and even the kidnapping plot worked as he wanted it to in the end.
I have read the previous book in the series so I recognized a couple of names but don’t fully remember their reputation. But the other characters were never brought up so it was not hard to read this book as a standalone. It was a good quick book to read.

Another beautiful Scottish adventure!
Once again, Anna Campbell offers her readers another great Scottish adventure with ‘The Highlander’s Defiant Captive, the fourth book in ‘The Lairds Most Likely series’. I’ve read so many stories set in the Highlands where a laird kidnaps a feisty heroine, that I feel it becomes a classic! However I loved it, because it’s well written.
The title explains everything! Callum a powerful laird kidnaps Mhairi the daughter of his rival in order to marry her and to establish peace between the two clans. At first, this sounds like a good idea! Even if he holds this fiery heroine captive specially one who knows what she wants, she seems attracted to him, but she is also very reticent to let herself be seduced by this highlander. There will be a lot of ups and downs between the two, but a nice chemistry will eventually be created between Callum and Mhairi. Another great adventure set in Scotland’s Highlands!
Book four in The Lairds Most Likely is just as captivating as the rest of the Series. Anna knows how to catch and hold the reader’s attention. This is Callum’s story. Callum is Laird of the Mackinnon Clan and master at Achnasheen, his stronghold in the Highlands. Just like the previous three books in this series you get a rugged handsome Highlander with an unbreakable code of honor and chivalry who will be tested to his limits by the women they fall in love with. Callum has the odds stacked against him. Kidnapping the daughter of his clans enemy and convincing her to marry him will take all his patience. Matching wits with this female is both heady and frustrating when all he wants to do is take her to his bed and keep her there forever.
Mhairi Drummond is a beautiful highland lass who had her father wrapped around her little finger. When she and her maid are someplace they should be alone, the worst happens. She is kidnapped by Black Callum, the Laird of the Mackinnon Clan. He has the crazy idea that she is going to marry him and end the feud that has cost many lives on both sides. He takes her back to Achnasheen and declares they will be man and wife soon and she just has to accept it. Fat chance that she is going to submit to her father’s arch-enemy. The strange thing is that he a complete gentleman and has not forced her to his bed. Everyone seems happy and content. There is just an atmosphere of happiness that was completely opposite of how her father’s clan is. The woman are treated with respect instead of the back of a man’s hand. Slowly she comes to realize that Callum is telling the truth, he will never force her. She swore she would never submit but now it is not about the feud between the clans but the feelings that she is realizing are love not hate.
I loved Callum’s integrity and his sworn honor to not hurt Mhairi. Anna knows her way around the Highlands of Scotland and her heroes and heroines. I fully enjoy her books because of her ability to tell a story that is both lovely and exactly what her readers enjoy. I just wish she would give her heroines easier names to pronounce!! LOL…I recommend Anna’s love stories highly!!!
Caught up in a feud, not of his own making, Callum Mackinnon takes matters into his own hands when his overtures for peace to the Drummond Laird fail. It seems that the only way to resolve decades of unresolved issues is to kidnap the fair Drummond maiden, Mhairi. Callum does not take into account that Mhairi is every bit as stubborn and difficult as her father and when she finds that she is central to Mackinnon’s plan, she makes things as difficult as possible for him. However, as many before her and after too have found, the line between love and hate is very finely drawn. This book is fast-paced, adventurous and romantic and kept me revetted to the pages throughout. The book is also well written and comes to a heart-warming conclusion. Great story; wonderful characters. A definite must read! Callum Mackinnon, Laird of Achnasheen, abducts Mhairi Drummond, daughter of a neighboring clan, in hopes of bartering a truce. He quickly falls in love with her spirit and courage, while she fights her growing attraction to him. Treachery almost separates the two permanently. Romance and passion finally come to them; they marry and now must face the wrath of her father. I received this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Wow! What an emotionally gripping 4.5-star tale of two “foes.” Once again, Anna Campbell delivers a thoroughly enchanting highland romance.
Callum MacKinnon is Laird of his clan. He is tired of the bloodshed that goes on between his clan and the Drummond clan. He decides the easiest way to end the long-standing blood feud is to marry the daughter of the Drummond laird. When turned down by the Drummond laird, Callum successfully kidnaps the beautiful but feisty Mhairi Drummond. She fights him and refuses to wed him even after they return to his clan. Mhari was spoiled greatly by her father and thus was able to be very independent in her actions. She is very proud and resists falling for Callum who is willing to accept her as she is, though he will not waiver from his wish to make her his lady. He feels he has proved to her he was willing to put himself to the test for her sake. When Mhari’s cousin comes to try and negotiate her release from Callum, she finds out her father arranged for her to marry her cousin years ago. She is angered that she was never told. Growing up she was very independent but realizes it was an illusion. For women, men are the ones who have the right to decide their fate. Mhari puts her trust in the wrong person in her attempted escape from the clan and is saved from death by Callum. She realizes how much he really loves her and realizes too that she has come to care for him. She sees how much his people love and respect him and she agrees to marry him, and finally, sets aside her pride, and admits she loves him.
I thoroughly liked Highlander’s Defiant Captive. It is a captivating romance with a feisty heroine, a braw and handsome laird, and of course, takes place in the beautiful, soul-lifting highlands.
The Highlander’s Defiant Captive is the fourth book in “The Lairds Most Likely” series by author Anna Campbell. I am a big fan of Ms. Campbell’s work and I’ve absolutely loved this series to date. Although this definitely could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the entire series!
Callum Mackinnon is Laird of Achnasheen. He has chosen to take a new path and try to end the feud between his clan and the Drummonds. When the Drummond leader refuses Callum’s request to wed his daughter, Callum takes matters into his own hands. Mhairi Drummond is the only daughter of the Laird of Bruard. She’s a clever, brave and beautiful young woman. When Callum kidnaps her to force a marriage, she fights him all the way back to Achnasheen.
I absolutely loved Callum! He’s handsome, intelligent and a respected leader, wanting what’s best for his people. When he decides to force his enemy’s daughter to marry him, he doesn’t expect someone as feisty and stubborn as Mhairi. She’s not at all what he expected, but he finds himself admiring her and wanting her for himself, not just for his plan. Mhairi was a fabulous heroine and I immediately liked her! She’s brave, proud and headstrong. She’s not about to let Callum force her into a marriage, but she’s intelligent enough to understand his reasons. I enjoyed watching these two sworn enemies get to know one another and to see their feelings start to change!
Anna Campbell did an amazing job with Callum & Mhairi’s story! Fabulous characters, feuding clans, and Anna’s trademark witty dialogue throughout, and you end up with a captivating and entertaining story with a perfect ending! I loved it and look forward to what Ms. Campbell has for us next!
I have been reading Ms Campbells books since she first started reading and I am sure this is one of favourites. The characters just spoke to me. Mhairi with her strength and determination to escape but her willingness to see the bigger picture and see the good man before her. Callum with his gentleness that is his biggest strength with his clan and his new captive. It was an easy book to read and had me turning the page. The epilogue was very special and me tearing up a little. There was some sex and this reviewer as usual skipped it and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book.
Fancy a trip to the highlands with a brawny highlander who knows how to wear a kilt well, then this is one to read, although part of a series it can be read as a stand- alone and you can see how this highlander meets his match in a bonny Scottish beauty.
Callum McKinnon Laird of Achnasheen has decided that it is time for peace in the glen years of feuding with The Drummonds over a forgotten reason and the loss of so many lives must come to an end and he is going to change that by kidnapping the Drummond daughter and making her his wife, this starts a battle of wills and patience, as well as huge sensual pull as Callum gets to know the feisty redhead Mhairi.
Mhairi Drummond is beautiful and been allowed to run free by her father she is known as the Rose of Bruard, so she is also a very strong willed woman and still not betrothed, when she is snatched by the bloody McKinnon and taken hostage and told that he will make her is wife, Mhairi will do what she can to escape, but all the time her heart is changing, there is a very fine line between hate and love.
This story is so very good, I loved the setting the sensual pull the love that blooms with danger and risk abounding Mhairi was nothing like Callum thought when he first took her, her spirit, strength and honesty had Callum falling for her so hard and fast I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, and Callum he is the best hero I want him for myself. MS Campbell you have penned another fantastic tale that is sure to warm the hearts of many readers, woohoo thank you so much for my trip to the highlands with Callum and Mhairi, a story not to be missed.
