Three beautiful agents for the Crown, three prime suspects, and one sinister plot to destroy af ledgling kingdom… Meet the Queen’s Angels! When Robert the Bruce’s queen formed the Angels, an elite group of spies masquerading as her ladies-in-waiting, she probably didn’t imagine they’d be called on to save her life. But that’s what happens when Queen Elizabeth is entertaining the Fraser … entertaining the Fraser delegation.
Luckily, her lady Courtney is deadly with a bow, and recognizes the assassin. Court’s history with the band of thieves and murderers who raised her means she has a very different skill set than most women in the queen’s retinue, and she’s not afraid to employ it. But she is used to working alone, and the idea of being saddled with an unwanted partner–particularly when that man is gorgeous, dangerous, and a prime suspect–is galling.
Ross Fraser, the queen’s longtime bodyguard, can’t believe one of his kinsmen could be involved in this treacherous plot. He’ll do everything in his power to prove his clan is innocent of treason, even if it means partnering with a testy and deadly thief-turned-spy… One who holds his heart after that single night they spent together years ago.
Ross must choose between his loyalty to his laird and his loyalty to his heart, as Court’s reuniting with her “family” makes her question everything she thought she understood. When metal hits meat, can this unlikely duo learn to trust each other, or will the plot to bring down the Scottish monarchy succeed?
Warning: Contains a bad@ss heroine, an adorable sheepdog with more hair than sense, and some super-steamy scenes.

Oh my gosh, guys! This book was outstanding. I love a good action romance, and Caroline Lee did not disappoint with this one! The pace was fast and engaging, and the characters are awesome.
This book was repetitive at times and slow. Not terrible but also predictable. If you like an easy read go for it!
I enjoyed reading this book.
Courtney is one of the Scottish Queen Elizabeth’s Angels. A group of women who are her personal spys and guards. After an assassination attempt Courtney must revisit her past to find the truth.
Ross Fraser was one of the Queen’s guards until he had to return to his Clan for a while. Now he must work with Courtney to find out if his Laird is behind the assassin.
This is an action packed adventure with wonderful strong characters, especially the the dog.
I thoroughly enjoyed every page.
Great fun.
I so love kicka$$ heroines and the queen’s Angels are definitely that!! This is Courtney and Ross’ story and what an adventure of a story it is! Court and Ross have a history together, albeit a short one, and when they’re ordered to partner in search of information, it becomes quite interesting. Learning to trust each other doesn’t come easy and with Court so use to taking care of herself, she needs to learn it’s ok to accept help. Add a huge dog named Honor and you’ve got story that will keep your interest from start to end.
Immerse yourself in a historical romance that takes place during Robert the Bruce’s time as king of Scotland where loyalties are questioned, danger abounds and passions run hot. I definitely do recommend this book!
A great story and a fascinating take on an historical period that was not as well documented as we of Scots lineage would wish, The wife of Robert the Bruce was probably very influential, and the fictional story portrayed herein of her closest admirers and defenders is both romantic and delightful.
Once again I have to admit that I am a contemporary romance reader especially those with modern cowboys, that being said this is an outstanding historical story. Lots of action, drama and romance, enough to keep me reading until the very last page. Looking forward to the next one
What’s not to love about a super-steamy story that contains a wild heroine, a gorgeous hero, and an adorable sheepdog with more hair than sense?
Good main characters and that includes Ross Fraser’s “wee” hound Honor. And yes, that was a tongue in cheek mention because he was a huge hound.
The story kept me interested all the way through. But I will say at one time it did slow down somewhat. But during that time, there was more “relationship” being developed between Ross and Court. Well, at least during the times that she was talking to him.
There is good world building when it came to The Angels team, Charlotte who helps guide them and Queen Elizabeth.
There is action as well as the promised romance. Humor is part of the story because Ross is not only skilled but knows how to draw some smiles out of the most unwilling. Court would be right on the top of that list. At least for a while.
I liked how the story ended and there was also a look into another one of the Angels, Mellie. It’s a story between Mellie and Lachlan Fraser. Book #2 is called, “The Laird’s Angel” and it looks promising.
“They were Angels; the Queen’s ladies. And more than just ladies in waiting, they were her agents. Her Majesty had pulled them into her confidence years before, and most of her court knew they–and the others like them–were special.”
Thus begins the tale of these special ladies, Courtney, Mellie and Rosalind. The three had been undercover getting information that the Queen may be attacked by an enemy and they were trying to get close to her to relay information. That’s when after a little altercation (so funny!) Court was grabbed by a man.
“That’s when her mind caught up to her eyes, and she sucked in a breath.”
“Ross Fraser.”
“Deep green eyes widened with surprise, and she knew the exact moment he recognized her, because his lips–those horrible, gorgeous, full lips–twitched upward at one corner. God help her, but she’d always been more than a little smitten with those lips.”
Ross had been a guard of the Queens up until two years agowhen he returned to his Clan Fraser and help the new laird. Court hadn’t forgotten him.
The adventure begins! Just adored this story! Intrigue, suspense, humor, trust and an attraction that could be deadly.
Caroline Lee is one of my favorite authors and has created an amazing start to this new series! Cannot wait to read more!
When a delegation from Clan Fraser visits Queen Elizabeth Bruce, she’s fortunate that her trained spies, masquerading as ladies in waiting, are there to protect her from an assassin in their midst. Courtney recognizes the symbol the assassin provides with his dying breath and it brings her back to her old life, being raised among the Red Hand, a group of thieves and murderers. She’s used to working alone, or with her two fellow spies, so when the Queen partners her with the gorgeous Ross Fraser, who’s also a suspect, Court is less than thrilled.
Ross Fraser served for years as a member of the Queen’s guard before being called to help his cousin settle in as new laird of their divided clan. Ross doesn’t believe any of his clansmen could be plotting against the Queen and he’ll partner with the testy Courtney to help prove their innocence. He just has to put the one night they had together years ago out of his mind and not let his continued attraction to her become too much of a distraction.
Upon meeting the ragtag group who were at one time the only family Court knew, it becomes clear to her that everything she’s believed about loyalty and family was skewed and she begins to open up to her growing feelings for Ross, perhaps just in time for them to both be killed on their mission.
This book drew me in from the start and the fast pace kept my attention. Courtney was understandably prickly given her background, but self-aware and vulnerable enough that I don’t think she ever came off as shrewish, a fine line that was well-executed. I completely adored Ross as a hero. Not only was he strong and protective, he was also honorable and not afraid to discuss and divulge his feelings. I loved him and he and Court made a great couple. This was a great read from a new-to-me author and I can’t wait for more of this new series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Courtney is deadly with a bow and arrow and is part of the queen’ s secret group of spies, the Queen’s Angels. Malcolm who was part of the Queens guard but left to be with his clan. When he comes back and fibpnds his laird is under suspicion for plotting against the queen, he is paired with Courtney to find out if it is the truth. While fighting their attraction together they embark on the dangerous quest which may be a danger not only to their lives but also their hearts.
I’m really enjoying this Highlander series. I loved Ross and Courtney’s story. The story grabbed my attention from the beginning and left me with a smile. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
