Born in the Highlands, Kuini thought his life was simple. You hunt and you fight, defending your towns against the raids of the Lowlanders and then raiding their lands in turn. His father was the Warriors’ Leader, and he wanted to be just like him.
Yet, Texcoco, the mighty Capital of the Lowlands, seemed incredibly beautiful, sparkling, its pyramids magnificent. A friendship with the Lowlander … Lowlander boy, the First Son of the Texcoco Emperor, seemed harmless in the beginning. They were just boys, and their clandestine meetings were always fun, providing great entertainment.
However, on the day Kuini agrees to finally enter the magnificent city, it would all change. He expected to get into trouble, but he could not foresee the extent of the trouble and, worst of all, he did not expect to uncover hidden secrets concerning his own family.

I have always been a fan of books about the Aztecs and other indian tribes since i can remember and this was pretty close to real history. It’s exciting and oh, those names of characters and places, very hard to pronoun.
I enjoyed the new vistas opened in this Aztec based novel.

Exciting and Engaging Read
Two young men, Kuni and Coyoti, from opposing tribes and different social statuses, become friends. When Kuni enters his friend’s magnificent city, danger lurks in every corner and secrets surface. This is a suspenseful, historical story set against the backdrop of Pre-Columbia South America. Highly recommended!
What a great read. I found the content to be informative as well as interesting. Hard to not read. Giving it a 5.

This is what got me into different story’s.
Great historical fiction about a time and place most people know nothing about.
Pretty good
The book is a challenge to follow due to all the strange names and places but it is well worth the effort. An excellent story of an exotic land with in depth characters and a well paced story
Very interesting. I enjoyed it!
Entertaining while giving you insights into the Aztec society.
Really enjoyed the authors portrayal of her characters. Obviously has spent a great deal of time researching both the period and the indigenous people of the period. Very entertains reading, so much so that I intend to purchase the rest of the books in this series
Lived in mexico seven years and book has many true features.
I enjoyed stepping back in time with this book! It’s a fun, fast paced book that was perfect when I was sitting by the pool. The characters are easy to like and the story moved quickly!
Get a glimpse into Meso American culture in the 15th century. Clashes between indigenous peoples, treatment of women, hard lives of men and insight in day to day living makes this era come alive when written by this gifted author.
As a Spanish teacher, I was intrigued by this topic. This author did not disappoint. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
