Tanya Wilde has a winner in this second book of the MacCallan clan, there’s plenty of intrigue and mystery that keeps the reader turning the pages. Lots of humour and witty banter. I loved the chemistry between Drew and Isla. And can’t wait to see the rest of the brothers happy ever after. A quick enjoyable read. I highly recommend, Tanya Wilde will not disappoint.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
Lady Isla MacCallan has run away from her brothers to escape their bossy, controlling ways. She is a kind, loving lady with a broken heart & she needs to go away where she can heal & find her place in life.
Lord Drew Murray has loved Isla since the day she was born & he was ten yrs. old & held her the first time. They grew up together, being neighbors but then he accidentally killed her brother & his closest friend in a boxing match. Isla’s brothers beat him & leave him in the woods to die but his brother finds him & nurses him back to health. Drew cannot ever go back to Isla’s family castle so he decides to disguise himself & get hired on as a groom, Mr. Ross at the castle, in order to be able to at least see her but never let her know it was him.
All was going fine until one night Drew/Mr. Ross discover Isla attempting to runaway alone in the night. He cannot let her travel & threatens to inform her brothers or she can let him accompany her to London to her brother & his wife’s residence. Isla finally agrees but then disaster happens when their carriage crashes in a snow storm & forces them to seek shelter in a spooky, falling down inn with quirky residents. On top of all that the inn seems to be haunted & Mr. Ross has taken her over the edge with his bossy attitude, his tempting demeanor & the sudden feeling that she has known him forever.
There is so much going on in this book – a Lord in disguise as a servant, a runaway lady, an eerie inn in the middle of the country in a howling snowstorm, eclectic characters with each one having a particular problem, a handful of irate brothers chasing them – none of which is a good thing for Isla & Drew/Mr. Ross.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book; all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
