A bold, seductive laird meets his passionate match in a scintillating Highland romance from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands
Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. Simpering and holding her tongue— definitely not. Raised alongside seven boisterous brothers, Saidh has little interest in saddling herself with a husband . . . until she glimpses … until she glimpses the new Laird MacDonnell bathing naked in the loch. Though she’s far from a proper lady, the brawny Highlander makes Saidh feel every inch a woman.
She has an angel’s looks, a warrior’s temper, and seeks out his kisses with wanton eagerness. Little wonder that Greer is intrigued by his comely guest. When reckless desire overtakes them, he’s more than willing to make an honest woman of her. But Saidh is the target of a hidden enemy, and Greer faces the battle of his life to safeguard the woman he wants above all others.

Loved it!! But then, what’s not to love about a Lynsay Sands book?
I loved it. Have re-read tons of time. Still as good as the first time
Love the Highlander series by Lynsay Sands. This is one of my favorites and you get to revisit characters from the other books in the series so it feels like meeting new heros and heroines and still getting update on heros & heroines you already know. Start with Devil of the Highlands and if you love highlander romances you will love them all.
This was my first Lynsay Sands book. I’m not sure what took me so long to get to her.
What I liked about it:
– Characters stayed true to who they were.
– Loved the Scottish dialect.
– Loved that she made it hard to guess who was behind the murder attempts, but I did not love that I felt the motivation was not as strong as I would have liked it to have been.
– Loved the aspect of family ties between the heroine and her brothers. It made for hilarious situations.
– Loved the strong female lead.
Overall, I recommend this book as a light, fun, fast read.
Rating: MA: mature audience: due to violence, debauchery, same-sex reference, murder, death, mayhem… etc. Listen carefully, I do not say that lightly. This was hardcore and even my review may be considered MA and/or contain ***spoilers*** even though I tried not to do that.
If you have not read books 1 & 2, then what I may say regarding characters from the previous book will definitely be a spoiler. Sands did a marvelous job with the friendships between the clans and castles. I enjoyed these people and would love to live near them and be part of their fellowship.
Saidh Buchanan was first featured in book 2 of Lynsay Sands’ ‘Highland Brides’ series. Book 3 opened with several threads that we will follow throughout the story. First, there was a prologue from the past that will make your skin crawl. A young Saidh attended her cousin’s wedding and overheard a wedding night no woman should have to endure. Thank goodness it was behind closed doors but it was discussed later between Saidh and her cousin and will have far-reaching consequences on Saidh’s present situation.
Next, we were introduced to Greer MacDonnell who had been a warrior [sword for hire] until the death of his cousin Allen MacDonnell, thus, establishing him as the new Laird. What a man-whore. Seriously, that guy was disgusting. Within a few chapters, his prowess as a lover was firmly established. Like many warriors, he didn’t cull anything as my grandmother used to say. He readily took advantage of the lightskirts that followed the camp. Old habits are hard to break and now that he was Laird, his behavior and habits would have to change. Yeah, he was a prize alright. He had some serious character adjustments ahead of him if he intended to be worthy of our heroine.
After the prologue, our story joined where book 2 concluded, with the birth of baby MacKay. Babies of any era were a blessing especially with the high mortality rate of mothers and babies. This short interlude allowed our author to link the two stories and describe the who, what, when, and where thus establishing the groundwork for this and the next book. A lady mentioned along with Saidh, will be featured in book 4 ‘Falling for the Highlander’ along with one of Saidh’s brothers.
What I didn’t like: Our Saidh and the new Laird MacDonnell [Greer] had an instant attraction when they first saw each other. Was it lust or love at first sight? The first 50%, I am not kidding, 50% of the book was pure lust and sexual encounters. I did not enjoy it. It was not romantic. It came across as pure lust and gratification. I did not like that at all.
What I did like: Saidh grew up with seven boisterous brothers. When they arrived at the MacDonnell keep, all you-know-what broke out. They came in mass to uphold the honor of their sister. That was the most fun part of the story. They were a complete riot and when they entered a scene, you knew something funny or outrageous was going to happen and they never disappointed. That was my favorite part of the book. I loved these guys. Note: the remaining books in this series will feature each of Saidh’s brothers finding their HEA. I have read most of the series and look forward to those I have not read.
Angst level was high: Although she was well able to take care of herself, Saidh suddenly found herself the target of a hidden enemy. Someone was trying to kill Saidh and Greer faced the battle of his life safeguarding the woman he wanted above all others. Along with her brothers, Greer was busy trying to keep Saidh alive and discover the villain behind the attempts. What a surprise. OMG! It was horrid. This person was completely diabolical. I recommend this only because it is a link in a chain of stories that you shouldn’t miss. You can speed read or skip over the sex and lust parts. If you so choose.
‘Highland Brides’ series by Lynsay Sands [9 books at present]
Book 1: An English Bride in Scotland [Annabel & Ross]
Book 2: To Marry a Scottish Laird [Joan & Campbell]
Book 3: The Highlander Takes a Bride: [Saidh & Greer]
The dialog was realistic. A fun read!
Always love her books…never disappointed when I choose one to read!
Entertaining
The large, loving, and boisterous family in this story made this a fun read. Saidh’s childhood instilled confident independence, but she wasn’t naive. Greer was just an all-around nice guy. There was more substance in this plot’s mystery than the romance. That is probably not a bad thing since neither Saidh or Greer struggled with any inner turmoil. At least not until they fell for each other.
As the only girl raised with seven brothers, Saidh Buchanan has never been a conventional lady. She can hold her own alongside the men and has no need to marry, but a visit to her cousin puts her on Laird Greer McDonnell’s radar and she begins to change her thinking.
Greer is wholly captivated by the unconventional lady and more than willing to marry her so he can have her in his bed honorably. But soon after the vows are said, it becomes apparent that Saidh is being targeted by a would-be murderer and Greer is determined to ensure the safety of the woman he’s come to love.
This was such a charming book! I loved Saidh as an unconventional heroine and she and Greer were perfect for each other. I also enjoyed the mystery and murderous plotting, as well as the dynamics between Saidh’s brothers and Greer. My only complaint was the scenes from the beginning which featured Greer’s dalliance with another. I’m not a fan of other woman/man scenes, but I can forgive him since he hadn’t yet met Saidh and he didn’t stray once he had. I loved the fact that it was Greer pursuing her seriously and Saidh wasn’t all that interested in marriage; it was refreshing that he had to do some persuading. I enjoyed this audio and will be continuing the series. I’d recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a classic Highlander story and needs a bit of an escape.
This is the third book in the Highland Brides series and each book can be read as a standalone title. This book picks up not long after To Marry a Scottish Laird ended and I just really enjoyed the continuation of this series. It was just seamless transition with a different character’s point of view. In this book we get to see Saidh Buchanan find her match in Laird Greer MacDonnell. I just had so much fun getting to see their journey. I loved getting to know Saidh more and I just fell more in love with her. I really enjoyed being introduced to all of the new characters in this book and I was just on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
