This book was not what I was expecting but once I began the story I was really taken with the main character. Not a “happily ever after story
An original story and characters, beautifully written: just ignore the misleading title and read this really good book.
Loved, loved, loved this book. It was often like reading prose. The development of the story told by the witch and the pastor was inspired. I was sorry to see it end.
I tried very hard to get into this book, but it just seemed to drag on and on. Will put it back and see if I can get into it in a couple of months or so.
I loved this book. Having visited Glen Coe, it was especially interesting to me. I’ve bought a copy and given it to a friend and have recommended it to a few others. It’s a well written and one of those I can’t put it down books.
I loved the story of Corrag – the writing style was so charming – highly recommend this! A great insight into life in the 1600’s – and how a young girl was able to survive on her own.
Excellent story told from two perspectives. About prejudice and preconceived notions; but more about how that can change when you get to know someone.
Told as a story and told to let the reader see history through real feelings. Very well done.
Different and informative
beautifully written, I almost passed because of the title, so glad my love of Scottland made me buy it.
I thought this book was historically accurate and a very interesting read.
One of the most movingly beautiful books I’ve ever read.
Thought provoking.
This book was hard to read in the beginning but developed well as you read. I enjoyed the authors description of nature. It made me feel like I was there experiencing it with the character.
It was very different from anything I read before. Very unique characters and scary insight into medieval justice.
I was haunted by this book for days afterwards..
I am currently reading this for the second time. I love the chapters told from Corrag’s point of view. Full of the wildness and wisdom of the natural world, she must survive within the world made by humans. I love this story.
Could not make sense of it did not finish.
I loved the book and the history. Could not put down .
6 STARS is my rating. I recommend this book to everyone who is a Scottish history buff. If you know about what happened to clan MacDonald at Glencoe then you know what a tragic event it was. I can not put into words how this book effected me so I’m not even going to try. Suffice it to say it is heart wrenching and beautifully written. Fiction …
