A courageous Highlander falls for a strong-willed lass on the treacherous high seas in this action-packed Scottish romance. After a vicious attack on his ship, Sir Kennan Cameron washes ashore on a deserted Scottish island, nearly dead. But he soon finds he’s not as alone as he thought. Kennan knows he can’t stay on the island, but neither can he leave the brave and bonny lass who has nursed him … brave and bonny lass who has nursed him back to health — even if she is from a rival clan.
Abandoned by her family, Divana Campbell is both terrified and relieved when a rugged Highlander drags himself from the surf. Trusting Kennan is her only chance for survival — and by the time they arrive at his castle, she can barely imagine life without him. But as the heir to a powerful chieftain, Kennan could never marry the likes of her.
Together, they’ll brave tempests, pirates, betrayal, and ruin. But soon Kennan must decide what matters most: his thirst for vengeance or the woman who’s won his heart.

This whole series has been wonderful! Loved this book about a bad boy gone good!
After being betrayed, Privateer Sir Kennan Cameron vows to find the traitor and make them pay, but first, he will have to survive. When he washes up on shore, he is saved and nursed back to health by the island’s sole inhabitant, Divana Campbell.
Divana Campbell along with her family was abandoned on the island two years ago during a smallpox outbreak – sadly her family did not survive and Divana has been alone years and doesn’t have much hope that they will be rescued.
But Kennan will not give up and eventually they are rescued and he takes Divana home with him. Kennan is attracted to her, but there is a lot keeping them apart, not to mention his quest for vengeance! But the heart wants what the heart wants and love will find a way.
This was a wonderful, well-written, unique tale with amazing characters that will stay with you long after you finish the book.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own *
From the very first scene, through the romance and adventure, to the very last page Highland Rogue captured my imagination. The characters were engaging, the romance enchanting and the adventure enthralling.
This book reminded me again of my love for historical romance, particularly in the Scottish setting.
This is my first introduction to this author and I was impressed by her talent. I found this book fascinating and look forward to reading more books by Amy Jarecki. I highly recommend her and the Highland Rogue.
A heart pounding scene opens this adventure with such descriptive words it seemed like I was on the ship waiting for the three pirate ships to attack! Filled with treasure hidden in the hull, Privateer Sir Kennan Cameron knew someone had betrayed him. They were only one day from home and now he was surrounded. “I pledge my oath, if I survive this day, only God will be able to save the Judas who betrayed me.” His ship taken over and about to die, he lunged over the side in the icy water and knew if he could only make it to the small island.. But the water was icy cold…
Fortunately he did make it to the island and that is where fate brought him to Davana Campbell. She had been stranded there for two years after being left by her family. She nurses him back to health and knows he will be her only way off the island.
Amy Jarecki at her best weaves this story full of all that I adore! Pirates (Some very bad ones!), betrayal, intrigue, great dialogue, characters who come off the page (yes I wish he would!) and a path to love that had a few twist and turns which makes the ending sigh worthy!! Can you tell I love it? Cannot wait for more!
I really enjoyed the adventures of Divana and Kennan. This story took me from Scotland to the Caribbean. The world of Scottish clans as well as privateers and pirates. I loved Divana’s hardiness to survive on her own, her stubbornness to go for what she wanted, and kindness as she befriended all she could. Her curiosity could have gotten her killed but she managed to stay alive. Kennan was a caring man when he was not in leadership mode. He was also a survivor and very single-minded when it came to revenge and to Divana. I highly recommend this story and the series.
I received an ARC of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
As in real life, as we experience these days, calamity does not differentiate between the station of man or class. Destiny simply pulls you in. It’s how you deal with the cards you are dealt, your inner strength and your will not to give up which makes the difference!
Author Amy Jarecki tells a tale where both the hero and heroine do their best to survive in an amazing, fast-paced, heart-thumping adventure, both having to face death.
Sir Kennan Cameron, in one moment captaining his ship the Highland Reel in a serene state of mind, to the next fighting for his life in a battle of fierceness and cruelty. The British pirate, Jackson Vane had struck. That day Kennan lost many men. After the slaughter, who was left, walked the plank to face death in the icy, shark infested waters. With his midriff sliced, hands tied, Kennan opted to take control of the situation. He ran the plank, willing to face the icy waters rather than to experience what further damage the pirates could do him before killing him. At least he had a chance.
So reader, where I had have just witnessed a terrible battle, horrific wounds and with unbelievable odds of living, the author sets you up to realize that hope can be possible if one is determined to succeed and prepared for the worse. Kennan was determined to live, to get back his ship and his wealth in the cargo. His need for revenge for the traitor who told Vane about his cargo, helped provide the herculean strength necessary to save himself.
Kennan washes up on an island, deserted except for a young woman, Divana, who also has a story of depravity, and hardship for two long years, but with her strength to survive she does.
Jarecki weaves a story of suspense with emotional scenes. Kennan is saved by Divana. As he heals, he learns about Divana, and she him. As long as they exist on this island, station in life does not matter. But soon fate, once again, changes their circumstances. Are they strong enough to survive wounds of the heart?
I hope you have a chance to read this book. I highly recommend the author and series.
Attacked by pirates Sir Kennan Cameron nearly dead he washes ashore on a deserted Scottish island, Hyskeir. Divana Campbell has lived on the island for two years, abandoned by her family she knows saving the man who washed up on her shore maybe her only way off the island. Divana comes from a poor crofter’s family who could not even afford shoes. Kennan is grief stricken and he’s determined to escape this island and back to his clan, his father laird Cameron and to seek revenge. The two grow closer while they’re on the island, he feels he owes her for she saving his life an he’ll save hers by getting her off the island an offering her home with his clan. She cannot her imagine life without Kennan and follows him everywhere he travels. What an adventure these two have, and a love they can no longer deny and defy convention to be together. A great story and one I’m sure you’ll enjoy! I voluntarily read and review this excellent book.
Divana Campbell was abandoned on an island after her and her family contracted the smallpox. She was left to die and has managed to survived the last two years alone by her courage and determination. One day while gathering food Divana is shocked when a man rises out of the surf hurt and bleeding. As Divana nurses Kennan back from the dead Kennan can’t help but be awed by Divana and how she has survived. The longer they are together the more they bond, but Divana knows that Kennan Cameron is the son of a Laird and above her station. Kennan has promised Divana she will always have a place to live and work when they are rescued. I don’t want to give anymore of the story away, but wow what a story! From being stranded on an island to adventures on the high seas such a wonderful story. I loved the ending I will admit I had tears! Definitely loved this one and highly recommend reading this one!

The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki
The Scottish Highlands
1714
Captain/Sir Kennan Cameron is nearly home in Scotland after his long sea voyage, but is brutally attacked and nearly killed by notorious pirate, Jackson Vane and his motley crew. They take his ship, his spoils and murder many of his men. Possibly all of his men as far as Kennan knows, as Kennan falls into the deep shark infested sea with serious wounds from the pirate attack. As if that isn’t enough he is surrounded by sharks as one attempts to eat him alive! Luckily he kills the offensive foul fish, and the other sharks disappear after he fatally kills one of them. He is swept onto a deserted island where he meets the only soul living on this isolated island. Unfortunately it’s a beautiful barefooted lass named Diviana Campbell who happens to be his clan’s enemy! Yet this lass also saves his life healing his wounds as any healer would. Of course as time passes they get to know each other, hearts open and feelings start happening in the beatings of both of their hearts.
Two years ago Divana Campbell’s clan betrayed them in the most inhuman and horrific way! Exiling her family to die on this isolated, inhuman, island, when they were all so deathly ill. All because Divana, her parents and wee young brother all had the smallpox. This was a cold, windy, unbearable inhuman isolated island called Hyskeir. A place the sun never shines where nothing can grow. It was a windy, cold, dark and miserable place, that was not made for human survival. Her family all died from the smallpox except Divana and she had been living alone for the past two years. It was as a place ships never docked to rescue her. Even the place she called home was no more than a weak tent. She lives off clams and the occasional ducks, she kills with her expert swing with a slingshot.
If they ever get rescued, Kennan promises her a position especially since he is a Knight and the heir to the Laird. The reason why he has never been in a rush to marry just for political reasons to help and enrich his clan. He promises to get her a position, clothing, food and as many blankets she desires. They finally do get rescued and that is where their social differences immediately show. As Divana is cleaning out ash a low servants job and he is the son of the clan chief. Plus he is obsessed with getting vengeance against that onion headed varlot – Jackson Vane, and his band of pirates! It is for the theft of his ship and treasure , but mostly for the murder of his honest hard working sailors. Kennan decides to leave Divana and locate Vane, even after she offers her servant services, yet decides she can’t live without him and stowaways on his ship. When she is discovered Kennan realizes how much he misses Divana and has been dreaming of her every night! Yet knowing how randy men might feel about a lady being aboard the ship he chops her hair off and disguises her as a cabin boy.
Now the adventure begins ….Kennan claims he is making sure he is protecting and guarding her virtue and safety from the other men. Except she has to share his sleeping quarters with him. He is finding out that he is the one who is a randy goat and it was killing him!. Except not everyone sees her as a lad, one blackguard even threatens and blackmails Divana from Kennan’s own group of hired sailors which she hasn’t shared this information with Kennan yet. Plus if Vane ever finds out about her life will definitely be in jeopardy and possibly forfeit too.
Will Divana ever accept their differences in social standing and accept Keenan will marry someone of the Gentry? Will Keenan accept a political marriage over love? Something he had always been aware of and promised as he never expected his heart to beat for another. Will His enemies learn of his feelings toward Divana that might cause both of them lethal danger?
As for Keenan Cameron, a man who was both a Sea Captain and a Knight. Taught since boyhood that his clan and people came before everything and any personal desires. Yet he learns sometimes changes can be a worthy challenge. Even though to think with your heart might be the correct way to claim what you desire the most in this life with satisfaction .
As Keenan definitely met his match with his Island lass who swings a mean slingshot with perfection. Yet he knew if she married a crofter he would be heart sick and devastated for the rest of his life.
Divana feels similar knowing he is way above her station in life, as he is the master and she the servant. Sometimes wishing they were never rescued always feeling equal on the isolated island. Divana knows she must move on eventually, as she would never be able to watch another be his Countess and the mother of his future children. It would shatter her heart into a million broken pieces!
Read about an independent lass Divana Campbell who can survive and take care of herself no matter what the odds are! Yet when she loved she loved fiercely with her entire heart.
Kennan Cameron which had been a bad boy and supporting character in the (Lords of the Highlands series) In previous books The Highland Chieftain, The Highland Renegade and The Highland Earl. You can read in series order but can read this as a stand alone book too. I have absolutely loved this entire series and each book a wee bit more. This is the seventh book of the series.
This is a phenomenal book readers definitely don’t want to miss. A book for the keeper shelf and put in your read again line. It is filled with mystery, murder, treachery, betrayal, fear, healing, joy, trust, innocents and love. Another with breathtaking settings, multi dimensional characters, brilliant dialogue and the plotting was absolutely sensational! Every time you think one issue is resolved another plot was stirring! This made me hold my breath with anticipation-wondering what could possibly happen next? A definite fun and exhilarating read from start to finish that I can’t recommend enough!

The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki is book 7 in the Lords of the Highlands Series. This is the story of Divana Campbell and Sir Kennan Cameron. I have read the previous books but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Diviana and her parents were thrown of of their clan when they had fell sick to what seems to be Small Pox. Diviana survived to live on but has been living on a island. Kennan ends up surviving a ship fight that lands him washing on shore where he finds Divana in her hut. Divana, although scared goes forward to help him and his injuries. When Kennan is finally rescued he takes Divana back to his clan. With them both being of different social standings not to mention different clans, Divana doesn’t see her being anything more to Kennan. But of course feelings and love can’t be stopped for anything. I really enjoy this author’s writing and hope to read more from this author soon.
The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki
A Lord of the Highlands Novel #7
Grabbed from the first pages I could not put this book down. Sir Kenna Cameron is a man among men and a captain his men will die alongside of. The fact that he avoids death in the first few pages and meets Divana Campbell on a supposedly deserted island makes for an interesting period of time for the two to get to know one another. They definitely become friends but how can a man destined to be the leader of his clan ever end up with a cotter’s daughter? This rollicking story will definitely keep you interested as you read to find out! It is true that sometimes a series loses steam as each book comes out but not this series…nope…not at all. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of opposites who find their life partner in a very interesting way!
What I liked:
* Divana: strong, independent, won’t give up, knows what she want and goes after it. She may not be a lady but she is fierce, dedicated and wonderful in her own right
* Kennan: titled, fair, wise, a good leader, took a bit to wise up, a good man and perfect for Divana
* Runner & Bannock – the cabin boy definitely was a good person with a heart of gold able to see the good in man, woman and beast – would love a story about him in the future
* The dynamics between Divana and Kennan – they so richly deserved their HEA
* That good won over evil
* The comeuppance of those who so richly deserved it
* The plot, writing and story
* Being taken away to a time and place that was fun to visit (so much nicer than covid-19 thoughts)
* All of it, really….except…
What I did not like:
* The bad guys: Vane, Dubois, Finnes, Ethan and the pirate crew
* The divide between the haves and have nots
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Without a doubt
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Superb swashbuckling adventure on the high seas!
Kennan is firmly established as our hero right from the very first pages. He escapes traitors and pirates, survives icy waters and marauding sharks, and washes up on exiled Divana’s secluded island barely alive. After she nurses him back to health, he devises a plan that will get them both rescued and returned to the mainland, only to meet up with yet another threat that has them on the run.
This story was reminiscent of the great Errol Flynn movies, filled with warmhearted heroes and soft but strong heroines. Kennan is torn between his revenge against the pirate, his duty to his clan, and his growing affection for the entirely unsuitable Divana. Through it all, he’s every girl’s dream hero, a man of courage and conviction who will stop at nothing to see justice done.
Divana was a delightful change to the usual romance heroine. Her beauty isn’t perfect, her history initially makes people afraid to be around her, yet her bravery and dedication to Kennan are unquestioned and unmatched. She’s the other half he never realized he needed, but once his eyes are opened to what his heart has been telling him all along, there’s nothing that can stand in their way.
I loved the relationship Kennan had with his crew as well. The three that he was closest with were like brothers to him, and their loyalty and service was heartwarming and commendable. Runner stole a piece of my heart right from the beginning, even more so when Bannock came on the scene.
Their HEA came in two wonderful yet separate parts, each one absolutely perfect for that moment in their lives. It was a very satisfying HEA all around, as justice wins the day and every good deed was amply rewarded. I highly recommend this romance. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This book sucked me in and held me captive from the exciting, heart-pounding opening scene to the last beautifully romantic scene in the epilogue. I couldn’t put it down! I was totally transported to another time and place: I existed on the deserted Hyskeir isle with Kennan and Kivana; I fought pirates along with Kennan; I was panic-stricken and vengeful when Kivana was threatened; and I was triumphant when I returned home with Kennan, Kivana and their crew. Yes, I was there and it was wonderful!
Sir Kennan Cameron, heir to the Laird of the powerful Cameron clan has been a supporting character in several other books in the series and I’m glad to see him in his own book. He is, of course, a large, imposing golden god who also happens to be smart, shrewd, and an excellent captain to his crew. You’ll love Kennan – you won’t be able to help it; you’ll just love him.
Divana Campbell, the daughter of crofters, was always poor – they couldn’t even afford shoes. When she was seventeen, she and her family were dragged from their beds and then dumped on Hyskeir isle. They were left to die – there was no food, no shelter, nothing. Her parents and siblings soon succumbed to smallpox (the reason they were dumped on the island), but miraculously, Divana survived. She managed to survive, all alone, on that island for two years. Until, one day …
The opening scene is so exciting! Kennan and his crew are returning to their homes in Scotland – loaded with treasure. They are less than a day away when the impossible happened. Kennan ended up swimming for his life, fighting sharks, and washing up, half-dead, on a very small isle. As he stumbled ashore, he caught sight of a young woman – digging for clams – as he stumbled to her small shelter and collapsed.
Divana reluctantly tended to Kennan and helped him survive. Kennan began to recover and they told each other the tales of how they came to be on this island from which there was no escape. Kennan, however, was determined to escape and find his revenge – even if he had to swim from the isle to the mainland. He lit signal fire after signal fire until finally, they were rescued. Had they just jumped from the frying pan to the fire? Hmmm… Their adventures had only just begun.
I loved the excitement, the chase, the romance. I loved that the romance felt truly genuine and that it developed as they got to know each other. I also loved that Kennan acted honorably toward Divana – really, really, really tried to do what he thought was the right thing. I was also happy to see that she thwarted him at every turn.
You’ll love Divana as well as Kennan. She is smart, brave, determined – yet she isn’t foolhardy as so many of our historical romance heroines are. Well, she did one foolhardy thing, but – if she hadn’t, we wouldn’t have a story.
I can definitely recommend this fast-paced, well-written, well-plotted and excellently written story. Now, to begin the wait for the next Highland adventure.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This story was such an adventure from start to finish. We have pirates, walking the plank, being marooned on an island, rescues, revenge and a not so in distress damsel. Both rescue each other which made the story even better. I loved every minute of this story!
Sir Kennan Cameron is the captain of the Highland Reel what we have met many times in the previous stories in the series. When we start this book he’s being attacked by the queen’s privateer Jackson Vane, aka pirate who ambushes his ship and makes his crew walk the plank into icy seas. Kennan manages to escape the noose around his neck, jumps overboard only to be attacked by sharks! When he washes ashore he’s almost dead and is nursed back to health by the only inhabitant of the isle, Divana Campbell. She and her family were left on the island 2 years ago to die of smallpox, she survived and has been alone ever since. When they’re rescued by the English Sergeant Corbyn he puts them in quarantine and they escape to Keenan’s home. This starts an adventure of revenge, recovery of ship & treasure and finding love. I so fell for Divana who grew from a lonely, stranded nobody to a partner to Kennan in every way.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
First chapter – pirates and sharks. Read reviews and thought it would get better. Um, no. By page 74, I’m already thumbing through the remainder of the book. I’m calling it. I’m off to read something else.
Divana Campbell finds Sir Kennan Cameron washed up where she has been abandoned from her family. Get ready for an excellent read from a time long ago as this author does not disappoint with this offering.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
The Highland Rogue by Amy Jarecki is book seven in her Lords of the Highlands series. Though part of a series, this novel reads as a standalone.
Sir Kennan Cameron, captain of an eighteen-gun ship, the Highland Reel, is attacked by pirates and washes ashore on the island where Divana Campbell has lived alone after being abandoned. Kennan is gravely wounded and Divana nurses him back to health. Divana loves Kennan but knows he is above her station and they can never be together as she wishes. Kennan thinks Divana is lovely and wants to protect her but knows that’s all they can ever have. Kennan and Divana face adversity in many forms on their way to Kennan’s home and even after they arrive. Will they overcome the obstacles in the way of a possible happily ever after?
The Highland Rogue is a quick, entertaining read with an interesting plot. The characters are vibrant. The romance is captivating. I throughly enjoyed this story and rate it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers of historical romance, especially Highland romance.
My thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Love on the high seas….
I love this series! It is a mix of sweet, heated romance, swashbuckling adventure and Scottish …
Campbell met Cameron in a plotline that was as unique as the characters that lived it. Divana had no family and no hope when Kennan washed ashore. As she nursed him back to health he became more than a rescuer. He was what her heart wanted and needed – even with the many strikes against them…
Divana was no wilting flower, far from it! She had survived a lot and had been living by her wits and her refusal to give up so little wonder Kennan was intrigued from the start. Her devotion, and his, soon upended any obstacle in front of them. Honor, family were important but love would trounce them every time… A rollicking adventure with love at the core, each moment a test of their devotion… And they passed with flying colors!
Outstanding historical romance!

“He had become her heart, her courage…she vowed to be his strength in his hour of need.”
Sir Kennan Cameron has made a name for himself as a Highland privateer working for the crown…he’s also made many an enemy. After fighting off a vicious attack and being left for dead, Kennan finds himself washed ashore on a deserted isle. Barely alive, Kennan awakes to the sight of a beautiful yet wild looking lass, who takes him in and nurses him back to health. How she has managed to survive all this time alone is a mystery to him, but one he plans to puzzle out…as soon as he finds a way off the island and back on his path of vengeance against the man who stole his ship and killed his crew.
Forsaken by her family and clan, Divana Campbell has been alone on her little island for years. Managing to fend for herself, she is shocked to see a lone man washed upon her shore and heading into her hovel of a home. Seeing he is wounded, Divana does everything she can to keep him alive. No one is more surprised than Divana to learn her castaway in none other than the son of the mighty Laird of the Cameron Clan. Never could he see her as anything but a bloody Campbell…or could he…
Kennan and Divana are two strong-willed individuals with an instinct for survival and loyalty. Their journey to their happily ever after is as turbulent as the seas they traverse, but so is their love affair…
Amy Jarecki has written a high seas romantic adventure with everything I’ve grown to love in this series. Highly recommend and can’t wait for the next installment!
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **
Divana, the heroine, basically stole the show for me, my fellow Scottish romance book loving friends. Whether as a tough, resourceful, resilient Robinson Crusoe leading lady or in the Cinderella role she was cast, she kept a stiff upper lip and tried to roll with the punches, especially the ones to her heart. The only thing I knew she couldn’t pull off was pretending to be a lad. Why? Well, we all know that very seldom actually fools anyone, don’t we?. Her only weakness was not feeling worthy of Kennan. When, in fact, I felt this lass deserved to be treated like royalty by him and his clan, not wind up where she did. She did have some say in that matter though. In fact, it was her choice. She stayed a very humble person, all things considered.
Kennan couldn’t focus on his own happiness/future, because he was obsessed with unfinished business involving revenge and payback. Also, he felt duty bound to one day settle down with a noble woman who would bring prestige and connections for his clan. This despite Divana proving herself divine by doubling down more than once doing what was right, even saving an important life.
I’d say this book is a cross between a rescued Robinson Crusoe, an at times pirate theme, and our usual classic, historical Scottish clan backdrop. Yeah, there is plenty of action on the high seas and eventually between the sheets between these two lovebirds. I was very surprised Divana’s rival clan did not make an appearance or cause trouble. I oh so wanted Kennan to knock some heads together to make them pay for Divana’s unimaginable, dire circumstances. Here’s to hoping he gets the chance in another book.
I had mixed emotions for a knuckledheaded reaction after finally being intimate with each other. I knew the relationship angst likely set up reason though so went with it. I do so love emotional drama and circling around each other until love brings them to their knees and senses.
Divana was graceful but not a cultured lady. Her dialect at times was a tad overly done to emphasis that. Mostly randomly using “me” when “I” was needed caught my attention. For me that wasn’t necessary and belittled her awesomeness.
Overall, I enjoyed this romantic tale. This author’s writing style always lures me in and keeps me engaged to the very end, rewarding me with a sweet HEA.
