Officially, Sir Giric de Beaumont MacDonald has come to the Rose Citadel to learn more about its owner, Baron de Rose, but the reality is Giric has come for revenge against the man who killed his father. His hope is to find the man and challenge him, best him in combat and finally find peace. His plan seems perfect and his path unobstructed, but that was before he saw a lovely woman practicing archery and she stirred up memories of another. One he couldn’t save, later he sees her again and dances with her. Giric is captivated by her and soon begins to imagine a future with her, but not until his plan for revenge is complete.
Jennet Linton is at the with her brother and his betrothed, as their father Baron Gillingham, couldn’t attend, he is deadly ill and is not expected to live much longer. Soon after they arrived, her brother Edward tells her that now that he is to marry, she needs to marry herself. Even though he has promised that she can choose her own husband, Jennet is not happy. Abducted and held captive in Scotland for years as a child, Jennet doesn’t want to leave home. But when she meets a handsome and honorable knight, she begins to think that not only could she leave, but she could even return to Scotland. But when the truth becomes known and Giric has to choose between love and revenge – will they get a HEA?
This was a well written, fast paced story with several twists and turns as well as a bit of intrigue, it was not perfect, there is some modern verbiage and title errors, but overall, it is a very good story with likeable characters, mild to warmish love scenes, revenge, kidnapping, a lot of emotion, a HEA and a delightful epilogue. This is part of an author collaboration series, but all the stories can be read as stand-alone titles.

June 1193, England
Sir Giric de Beaumont MacDonald wants vengeance against the Englishman, Baron Gillingham, who destroyed his family. The black guard who murdered his father. It had taken him eleven long years for the chance to face his enemy. Also the King of Scotland, wants to find out where Lord Yves loyalties stand, who is the host of this tournament. Giric is disgusted his father’s killer wasn’t here, as he was home dying unknown to him, so his heir, Edward known as Eddie, was sent in his place. It still didn’t matter as his vengeance was still going to take place. Though he was not a believer that a son should completely pay for his father’s sins, so he won’t kill him. So he had to rearrange and change his original murder plan. In his he will fight this son in combat where they use unblunted weapons. So the men fighting will still get horribly injured and wounded. Not only that, but the son still must also pay for his father’s heinous actions to abduct Eddie and ask for high ransom to ruin the Linton family.
Giric saw this beautiful woman playing archery with her eyes actually closed! However, this bonny lass was hitting a bullseye each and every time. She was the most beautiful lass he has ever laid his eyes on. Sassenach or nae, the attraction was immediate, not realizing it was his enemy’s daughter, Jennet Linton. A woman with a secret tragic past, who felt something in her life was about to change. She has been caring for her dying father, her father’s heir Eddie, her disadvantaged younger brother who walks with a limp. She also cares for her youngest brother William, as her mother died from childbirth delivering him. She has been more of a mother than a sister to her brothers Edward and William. Now her brother and heir, Eddie, was about to marry her best friend, Ada. His bride-to-be will be able to perfectly take care of her family in her place.
Jennet’s brother suggested she move forward with her life, discover new found happiness, with a husband to love and have a family with. She was definitely past overdue to have her own family at her age of twenty three summers. Jennet has been given the rare choice of a woman of her station, to make her own decisions, to find and choose her own husband to love. She is hoping she will find one at Lord. Yves Tournament, since she now has the freedom to pick a potential man to court, desire and love, a possible future husband. She has liked being her family’s caretaker, but knew her brother was right. It was time to move on with her future. She feared change, yet Jennet could feel change was about to come. Would the change be positive or negative? It was too soon to determine that as of yet.
Now Jennet meets and flirts with this Scottish handsome honorable knight. Scotland brings memories of a past tragedy for Jennet. However, perhaps this knight can help erase those horrifying memories and turn them into new glorious memories. As she falls hard and quickly for this man….will she find out the truth. Besides another man wants to marry her, but for dishonorable, nefarious, and corrupt reasons. He forces her honorable brother’s hand and takes away her freedom to choose. A choice her family has always promised her. Now will she be forced to marry a cruel, cold, unfeeling man tshe seems to fear. Will she find out Giric wants vengeance against her family? Will she feel heartbroken and betrayed? Will Giric choose love over revenge? Will she lose her freedom th choose and be forced to marry a heartless black guard no matter what Giric decides? So many unanswered questions is another Lori Ann Bailey must read.
Lori Ann Bailey pens another phenomenal book I could not put down. Warning: Have the tissues nearby readers, as it is definitely another action packed, emotional heart-puller! It is filled with vengeance, revenge, attempted murder, freedom, forced marriage, betrayal, attempted murder, arranged marriage, treachery, desire, flirtation, passion , and of course love.
I love that there is some cameo’s appearances of othe author characters iin this series from previous and future books that aren’t released yet,. As this Tourney is hopping! It also presents how a woman of a higher station has the rare opportunity to pick her own mate. This story also includes how some unclear interpretations can come to wrongful decisions and even bigger regrets. Of course there is flirtation that turns to love, but when the one you love is putting your entire family you were born to protect in the worst type of lethal danger what will she choose? Will he lose the one he loves due for his stubborn need for vengeance? Who will even survive?

This is my first time reading something by Ms. Bailey. It was an entertaining and enjoyable read. The story was well-written and flowed nicely. The plot was interesting and had some twists and turns that made this an interesting and intriguing story. The characters were strong and well-developed. Ms. Bailey did a nice job of bringing this story of revenge to life with plenty of action and well developed scenes. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author.

This is my second book so far in the fantastic Midsummer Knights Series. I just love medieval historical romances and these incredible authors around an intriguing theme, a great tournament scheduled near the border of Scotland and England. The greatest knights and lords from England, Scotland, Ireland, and France have gathered to compete for a great prize. Can you just imagine the testosterone! They are all there for their own reasons and therein are there stories.
Our hero, Sir Giric de Beaumont MacDonald, is there for revenge against the man responsible for his father’s death. Sir Giric is not a bad man, quite the contrary, a very honorable and good man whose life has been changed since seeing his father killed as a child. But then Sir Giric sees her at the tournament, irresistibly drawn to her he knows his life is forever changed and what if his plans for revenge?
Our heroine, Jennet Lindon I a wonderful, kind young woman who’s spent years of her life held hostage by her uncle and the rest caring for her family and her ailing father. Promised by her father she can marry a man of her choosing, she attends the tournament with her brother hoping to find such a man.
I loved the characters! They are so well developed and you find yourself rooting for them from the start. I enjoy the romance, the connection and the passion that ensued. One could not help falling in love with Sir Giric as he courted Jennet. He was a true knight in every sense of the word and the story was all the more enchanting for it.
This is a well written story fraught with intrigue, revenge, and emotions. There are a lot of twists an turns and interesting subplots that move this fast paced, action packed story along. I think Lori Ann Bailey gives us a wonderful story with a beautiful ending.
Thank you so much Lori for such a delightful story of love.
Courtly Love and Revenge
This is the first book that I have read by this author, and I am impressed. I love medieval romantic fiction, but I find it too often is too violent or graphically sexual. I may not mind the latter, but I am certainly not wild about the former. This book was more about courtly love on the romantic side but also had strong subplots about vengeance and other things that I won’t spoil in this review. I absolutely adored the couple. Sir Giric is a Scottish knight with a powerful sense of honor. His is the revenge talked about in the title of this book. So he comes to the tournament at the heart of this book wanting to finally seek revenge, a need that has been festering in his soul since his father’s murder. While not completely keeping him from pursuing his goal, he is distracted by a beautiful young woman he first sees performing remarkable skills with a bow and arrow. Our heroine has a complicated and tragic past as well. They get to know each other, and soon both are falling for each other pretty hard. Both feel things they’ve never experienced, and the author shows this well. It was a delight to read their courtly dance as they spend time together. Of course, there are many complications, many because neither fully knows who the other is, and it takes a while for it all to tease out. The varied subplots add a lot to this book. A lot is going on that interconnects and complicates the romantic aspect of the story. The knight is such a fantastic, gentlemanly character. I love the way he treats the heroine with respect and what one could call courtly devotion. He is utterly swoon-worthy. I liked the heroine, as she was sweet and devoted to her family and friends. I didn’t believe one thing about her, and that was her desire for Independence. I don’t really think that was a consideration for young unmarried women back in those times. Other than that, I love this book and thought it was very well done.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Entertaining and intense historical love story. Wonderful characters finding love and romance with intrigue and lots of drama. Hard to put down. Good read.

The fourth book in the Midsummer Knights series a well written story with a very good storyline. Sir Giric de Beaumont MacDonald has believed something for years and he is now out for revenge. He meets Jennet Linton who might have the answers he seeks. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Highland Knight’s Revenge by Lori Ann Bailey is the 4th book in a 7 book series. Sir Giric de Beaumont MacDonald seeks revenge for the death of his father. He attends a tournament with that in mind but the man is not there. His son is there in his place. Jennet Linton was kidnapped as a child and forced to live in Scotland with her uncle. She was finally freed and now wishes to marry for love and has found the man but he is set on revenge.
This is very basic gist of the story. I don’t want to spoil anything for you. I enjoyed this one a great deal and thought Ms. Bailey was such a wonderful storyteller. There were some twist and turns that I did not see coming. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
This series has been phenomenal with the different authors penning a story and this time the amazing Lori Ann Bailey adds her tale that won my heart. She pulls out all the stops and puts her well defined characters onto the pages to bring this story of revenge and love to life.
A great tournament at the Rose Citadel, on the border of Scotland and England with the greatest Knights attending, looking to win a grand prize. But there are also a lot of other battles going on between the different men.. Some looking for revenge, some power and others a match to improve their standing.
“Revenge.” Giric de Beaumont MacDonald had just been informed the man sitting down the table from him was Edward Linton, the son of Baron Gillingham, the Englishman he had come to revenge his family and everything he had taken from them. Unfortunately he learned the Baron was on his deathbed, so he would have to rethink his plans for the son.
Then he saw her. The lady in the beautiful blue gown. Yes, they were drawn to each other but little did he know at first that she was Edward Linton’s sister.
Prepare to find everything needed to keep you mesmerized for hours on the journey this couple takes to try to find their happy ever after. It will not be easy and will have many twist and turns, but, oh yes it will bring a hugh Sigh at the end. Loved it.
The Highland Knight’s Revenge by Lori Ann Bailey is book 4 in the Midsummer Knights Series. This is the story of Jennet Linton and Sir Giric de Beaumont MacDonald. This was a standalone book for me. Giric has been looking for revenge on the person that killed his father for some time. Now at the Rose Citadel games he thinks this will be his time to get his justice. But he gets somewhat distracted by a women…Jennet. Giric is attracted to her of course but there is something more there that brings of feelings from his past. Jennet is in attendance with her brother because their father is dying. Jennet’s brother is getting married and she is told that she should be looking for a husband too. But Jennet had a traumatic time in her young life that has left her not wanting to take future steps but when meeting Giric she starts to feel a connection to him. There is a twist in their story that may change their feelings. Enjoyed this book and of course this author’s writing.
This was such a wonderful book to read and I enjoyed my hours spent in 1193, near the border of England and Scotland:) At a tournament, no less!
Giric has come to the tournament looking for revenge that he has been planning for many years. Plans don’t always go as planned, though, as he soon finds out! He also never expected to meet Jennet and fall hard for her, little knowing who she really is. Their story makes for great reading and add in a couple of twists and turns and you’ll find you don’t want to put the book down!
I really love Lori Ann Bailey’s way of writing and I look forward to reading all the books in this series. Give me a Highlander who is also a knight and you’ve got my attention:)
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

My review :
This is my second read in this multi-authors mini series, I loved the common setting, and while the others characters from previous books are only shadows, it was nice to come back to this tournament.
Both main characters had been victims from the same events, yet they are unaware of it and have a different view of the outcome.
And while Giric is here with revenge fulfilling his heart, Jennet has hope to once have her say in her future.
Their romance is such a lovely one, because they are instantly drawn to one another, who they are behind their fluttering heart appear as of no importance. So they enjoy the present, dreaming of a future together. And while betrayal and threat lurk around them, they are oblivious they are linked deeper they expected and they it might change or erase their hopes.
Jennet is a sweet young woman, she had lost so much because of hatred, why she sees Giric’s scheme dangerous as she already knows it will bring only emptiness and distress. Giric thinks he does the right thing, why he lets his need for revenge consume everything, only Jennet enlightens for once his life, she is a breath of fresh air and she makes him question his own plan.
4.5 stars for this sweet and lovely tale of forgiveness and letting the past go.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
The Highland Knight’s Revenge is book four in The Midsummer Knights series by Lori Ann Bailey. The Midsummer Knights series is made up of six books by the following authors: Kris Kennedy, Madeline Martin, Lori Ann Bailey, Eliza Knight, Terri Brisbin, and Madeline Hunter. The Highland Knight’s Revenge is Bailey’s contribution to the endeavor. I enjoyed this book. Giric de Beaumont MacDonald is one braw Scot, and I felt drawn to his honest personality. The heroine Jennet Linton was likable, but Giric stole the show. “He closed the space between them, and his velvety, soft lips landed on hers…sweet, strong, sensual. The embrace was everything, yet her body craved more. It was as if she couldn’t get close enough to him. She sighed and tilted farther into the embrace. Time stopped as she let desire and exhilaration absorb her.” Well done, Ms. Bailey, another lovely romance for a rainy day.
The Highland Knight’s Revenge (Midsummer Knights, #4)by Lori Ann Bailey I read this book today and couldn’t put it down until I finished it. It has all the feels..love, revenge, misunderstandings, guilt and redemption. I hope you will love this book as much as I did.
