From the New York Times bestselling author of The Weekenders comes a delightful new novel about new love, old secrets, and the kind of friendship that transcends generations. When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric … has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine’s cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter with Brooke, who is an attorney, but Brooke knows that Mrs. Warrick has long been a client of a prestigious Atlanta law firm.
Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club–so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades–Millie, Ruth and Varina. When Josephine dies with her secrets intact, Brooke is charged with contacting Josephine’s friends’ descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who’ve actually never met.
The High Tide Club is Mary Kay Andrews at her Queen of the Beach Reads best, a compelling and witty tale of romance thwarted, friendships renewed, justice delivered, and true love found.

A light book with substance. I enjoyed every page.
I’ve read many of Mary Kay Andrews’ books but this one was much more intriguing. I was not looking for some of the twists and turns. This was a very interesting read.
Love this author and this book was no exception. This is another book I like to refer to as a great beach read. An entertaining plot with characters you want to get to know and locations in my case that are familiar and loved. Like many of Mary Kay Andrew’s books this book goes back and forth in time telling the story of two women generations apart. If you haven’t added Mary Kay Andrews to your list of favorite authors- try her out, because she is terrific.
Lots of twists and turns. Highly enjoyed this book!
Great book. Fun read. I would recommend this book.
Recommended by my friend throughly enjoyed it.
One of my favorite authors.
Love love love Mary Kay Andrews. She does not disappoint. Story is tied strongly to her southern roots.
I thought this was going to be a fluffy “beach read”, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Has a lot of twists and characters that interested me. Part mystery, part romance, some Southern locales that I love, a bit of history. So happy I discovered it!
Just finished listening to the audiobook of the High Tide Club. The narrator did an exceptional job. For readers who like contemporary stories woven with flashbacks to the past, this dual time period will delight. The female friendships were particularly well drawn, and Mary Kay Andrews captured the southern accents. For antique car aficionados, you’ll enjoy hearing about what’s in Josephine’s barn on the island. Wonderful elements of mystery, romance, and suspense in an enjoyable clean read.
The High Tide Club by Andrews_ Mary Kay
Enjoyed other works by this author. This one starts with the young girls and they’ve formed a club on the full king moon when they go skinnydipping on the island.
Story goes back in time to update you on the events of the past and how they pertain to the latest present day.
Brooke a lawyer hopes to help the old woman, Josephine who’s dying and wants to pass on her portion of the island, rather than giving it to the state for hardly anything.
Brookes job will be to find the others in the club-if they are still alive. Older days speak of luxusious living, money is no option, so many details.
Verina, Millie, Ruth and one is Brookes grandmother and she learns many things about her. The had extravagant pins made that meant a lot to the 4 of them and Josephine explains about the wedding-not to Russell…
They were closer than sisters and Brooke knows how hard it is to keep friends over a slight argument.
They all gather and the truth is revealed although there is nothing they can do about it. Other mysteries arise…
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
One of her best!
Easy reading
Lawyer Brooke Trappnell doesn’t know what she is getting herself into when she is summoned to Talisa Island by eccentric millionaire Josephine Warrick. Upon arrival, Brooke discovers that Josephine wants her to find the heirs of her long-dead friends (Millie and Ruth) plus Varina that were part of the High Tide Club so that she can make amends before she succumbs to cancer. Her intent is to leave the island to these descendants and die with a clear conscience.
Brooke meets several times with the ailing woman and is regaled with a tale of old friendships, a long-unsolved murder, betrayals, and lots of secrets. Now Brooke finds herself being entrusted to protect the island and its legacy and convincing the heirs to come together on Talisa for a reunion with a woman they never met.
This is writing at its finest with a perfect blend of mystery, drama, romance, intrigue, and lots of unexpected surprises. The characters are multi-dimensional with diverse personalities and compelling backgrounds. I loved how the story mixed the past with the present for wonderful storytelling.
I like that it had so much of the real world in it. You felt like you were one of the characters. It was a little romance, suspense and entertaining. Almost like playing a Clue game….who done it!
A lot of twists and turns in the plot of this readable book!!
As with all Mary Kay Andrews books, a fantastic summer read.
