From the New York Times bestselling author of The Weekenders comes a delightful new novel about new love, old secrets, and the kind of friendship that transcends generations. When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric … has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine’s cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter with Brooke, who is an attorney, but Brooke knows that Mrs. Warrick has long been a client of a prestigious Atlanta law firm.
Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club–so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades–Millie, Ruth and Varina. When Josephine dies with her secrets intact, Brooke is charged with contacting Josephine’s friends’ descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who’ve actually never met.
The High Tide Club is Mary Kay Andrews at her Queen of the Beach Reads best, a compelling and witty tale of romance thwarted, friendships renewed, justice delivered, and true love found.

Though this book was not what I was expecting (based on my other encounters with MKA novels) I thoroughly enjoyed this journey toward self-discovery and connecting the family dots.
“The High Tide Club” is a great read for the beach or if you just want a little mystery, romance, suspense, historical fiction, love, forgiveness, deception, and girlfriends. How far would you go to protect your best friends. Mary Kay Andrews tells a southern story in the south during present day and going back to 1940s. The thens and nows intertwine to help Josephine bring “the high tide club” back together so she can make amends before she dies. The “high tide club” comes together to try to figure out what Josephine was trying to make amends and after she suddenly dies, the truths begin to unwind. An awesome story! Would really like to hear more about Brooke and Pete and how Marie’s plans after faring.
This story has more twists and turns than a mountain road and puts Mary Alice Monroe back on my must read list. It was wonderfully different and very entertaining.
Great book…loved the story line
Another Winner From Mary Kay Andrews!
/ 5 rounded up.
The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews was exactly the type of book I needed to read right now. It made me think of a hug – warm, fuzzy, and it made me feel good. There is some drama and it’s not {all} fun and games, but that’s what made it great.
I remember reading another book by this author and not loving it, but The High Tide Club was amazing. I think it is definitely the epitome of the perfect beach/summer read and it got me in the mood to go to an island.
The story focuses mostly on the present, but there are some flashbacks to the past which was a very enjoyable way to read this book. You see present through the eyes of a lawyer named Brooke and I really loved her as a character. Frankly, I think I loved at least one thing about every single character except for a couple. I found a lot of very relatable people in the book plus a lot of very current, relatable subplots.
The High Tide Club talks about a group of friends in the 40s who called themselves the High Tide Club. Brooke gets hired by one of the women to find the rest of her friends because she is 99 years old and wants to make amends for ways she has wronged them. This book is chalk full of secrets, betrayals, and even a murder. And you also get a glimpse at Brooke’s life and her past at the same time.
I took my time with The High Tide Club and I savored it (which is why it took me 3 days to read it). All the descriptions made it very atmospheric, and I felt like I was right there in Georgia with the characters. Mary Kay Andrews can definitely paint a picture through words for you, and I loved it.
Final Thought: Words can’t even explain how enjoyable of a book this is. It’s got a little bit of everything and even the serious topics are told in a light enough manner that make the book more uplifting than sad. So many funny moments and the characters were people I would love to meet. I highly recommend this for summer (or any time you are in the mood for a beachy read), and lovers of great characters who enjoy a shot of mystery in your beach read. I will definitely be reading whatever Ms Andrews comes up with next!
The High Tide Club in 3-ish words: Absorbing, Fun, Imaginative
Entertaining from beginning to end!
Like always Mary Kay Andrews has written an interesting, terrific book.
Really well written. Many twist and turns. You do not want tp put it down. Always look forward to her books
My first book of summer and I loved it. Mary Kay Andrews stepped out of her normal writing style and did an amazing job. The mystery, the family, the friendships, and the Southern Charm are all amazing. The dual timelines of 1941 and the present time come together perfectly. The two different eras tell the story of amazing characters learning about their history and of their future while making friendships that will last forever.
The story is narrated by many different characters, which could cause some confusion, but Mary Kay Andrews did an amazing job in keeping the reader in line and aware of who was telling the story. I enjoyed knowing the different perspectives of the characters. This allowed me to get the true feelings and emotions of those who are telling the story, those who are living the events, and those who are hearing the story for the first time.
While Josephine is the character that starts this story it is truly The High Tide Club members that bring the story to life. As with most groups, there is one person who seems more in charge, in the know than the rest of the group. Josephine is that person. With her all-knowing personality came so many secrets of her own and others that she kept for her entire life that as her life was coming to an end (she is 99) she knew she needed to share the secrets with those who deserve to know them. I felt like the fact that she kept the secrets for so long proved what a good friend she was.
This is an amazing book. Everything about it was written in a way to pull the reader in and never let them go. From the first page to the last I could not stop reading. If you are new to Mary Kay Andrews or a long time fan this is a book of hers that you cannot pass up.
Having read several of Mary Kay Adams’ books in the past, this one was not quite what I expected, but turned out to be a whole lot more. Full of Southern setting and charm usually found in her books, this story was told with a dual timeline and a mystery to solve. This story brought together an unusual cast of characters in both timelines and the story had twists I didn’t see coming. As secrets are unearthed, rifts healed, and unexpected friendships are forged. The characters are fun, I enjoyed their interactions and how each character fit into the overall story.
This was a book I started reading and forgot time passing, as I devoured it. A perfect summer read, plan to sit back and settle in with your favorite Southern beverage and be swept away to the Georgia coast.

What can I say, I have read every single book by Mary Kay Andrews and each book just keeps getting better and better. This book is beach read/mystery/suspense all rolled up into one great story. Brooke Trappnell appeared in an earlier book and I was happy to learn more of Brookes story. Josephine Bettendorf Warrick was a woman of many secrets and I wasn’t quite sure what to think of her at first meet but as her story unfolded I grew to love her. The High Tide Club consists of three very different woman who came together at a very different time in this country Pre-WWII. Millie, Ruth, and Varina along with Josephine are the members of this club. Each has their own secrets and story to tell. Brooke Trapnell is hired by Josephine for reasons that Brooke does not fully understand but all will be revealed.
All of the women in this book have secrets and a few of these secrets are interwoven. I thought that this was a touch darker than this authors past novels but it worked with the story line.
The only disappointment for me was that the book was not longer! If you are a fan of well written Women’s Fiction, with a dash of mystery and suspense thrown in, along strong female characters then this book is for you.
