But a twist of fate and Penny’s gift bring her to Everett’s attention, and she takes on a secret identity to aid him to trace the origin of the black mist.
What follows is a journey into a dark magical world within the minds of the corrupt, ruled by demons that plague on the dark aspects of the human psyche.

I wish everyone would get and read this book for it has a message the whole world needs to be reminded of and that is not to judge a person by how they look or act! Man (and woman) are the only ones who do this! No other creations of God do and we are forever being reminded not to but we do so anyway! Whether it’s bullies in school or those you see or work with we are so quick to pass judgement not realizing how devastating that judgement can be to the individual we perceive as different through no fault of their own!
Unless you are hard-hearted you will need some
kleenex as you read the first part of this story and the last part as well and perhaps other places in between!
This is a fantasy action adventure story but a real page turner as well along with a slow building romance as a group of people, commoners, disguised royal princesses and dragons are trying to stop the spread of evil in a human town.
It won’t take you long to be caught up in the story and you won’t be able to quit until you reach the end and even then you’ll wish the story could continue on with the two main characters!
The story is well written and I for one loved it! I felt Penny’s pain for her whole life and Sarah’s at the end as well. I would hope if readers prior to reading this book could see themselves as one who would ridicule or make fun of Penny, that this book would affect a mighty change in them so they would cease that type of behavior!
It is a powerful message besides being an enjoyable book to read!
I look forward to continuing the series though I’ll miss these characters in the future books!
I enjoyed reading this good Cinderella story full of great characters and action. I really like the twist of this story.
I am voluntarily giving an honest review
Such a wonderful captivating book. Couldn’t put it down. Was drawn in from beginning to end. I loved reading…
Penny’s story is filled with twists, turns and adventure. Locked away her whole life except for brief excursions, she finally gets a chance to leave the dungeon, but appearing as another person. In her adventure to help located and stop the darkness much is revealed about her family and the kingdom. The magic shoes were a fun twist and almost felt like a GameLit element with how she gained powers as she learned more about herself and grew as a person.
Though billed as a Cinderella retelling, this story is a very loose adaptation and unlike any other Cinderella story I have ever read. There is a girl denied her birthright, two sisters, a handsome prince and a fairy godmother who gifts some fabulous shoes. The storyline, however, is refreshingly different from the traditional tale. It uses many familiar fairytale tropes and feels familiar but is its own story. This reminded me a bit of George MacDonald’s fairy tales. It had strong messages about friendship, true beauty, and leadership but stopped shy of being preachy or didactic. The romance stayed chaste and sweet.
This is the first in a series of standalone novels that come together in the end for an epic conclusion. Penny gets a HFN ending, with a bit of a cliff hanger for the overarching plot that ties the books together.
I really enjoyed reading this book from Mira Crest’s “Princess League” series. It is the second book from this series I’ve had the pleasure of reading, and I found the story quite interesting and enjoyable. Good news for people not wanting to get tied down to having to read an entire series of books, both “Princess League” books I’ve read were stand-alone books set on the same world. This book does a great job of placing the reader in a fairy-tale kingdom with magic and mythical creatures. The main character has a real coming of age and matures in wonderful ways during the course of the story.
A wonderful and original fairytale where you can’t help but fall in love with the main character. Heartbreaking and hopeful all in the same moment. Such a good book.
A unique fantasy.
A young girl is locked away because she does not meet her family standards. She is allowed a few hours a month to leave her cell and go outside. What a sad life for such a young one. Tatiana was not a nice character and her fate was rather horrible. Sarah was not so bad but both Penny’s sisters had a life where Penny only had her cell and a few hours in town once in a while. This magic fantasy also has dragons and Everett was great. There is so much going on in this tale it is such a unique and captivating piece. I felt so sorry for Penny and rather disliked her family. This story read like an old fairytale by the Brothers Grimm. I am so happy I decided to pick up this arc it is good and I am happy to recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this story and voluntarily chose to review it.
The idea behind the story was a good one and is excellent for YA. It still needs a good editing, but is okay for an adventure story and learning experience for young people. It has a lot of life lessons about things never being just black and white and people’s reactions to hate and injustice.
This book had some good points on life and what your outside and inside your body and mind does not matter. We have Penny who was born different than her sisters and locked away. Her one sister loved her and treated her well, her older sister not so much. Her mother unable to fight for her. Her father hated her and locked her away. Then a prince comes and what follows will have you wondering how they will survive. I received a free copy for my honest review.
I don’t know when I heard about this book for the first time. It must be quite some time ago already, since I do get the author’s newsletter in my mailbox (and I actually open and read those). For some reason however I never started the series. Until I saw an opportunity to get a review copy of this book. I no longer had an excuse not to read it and this morning I started. I wasn’t expecting to finish it today, but I was very curious to see how this story would end.
This book has a strong fairytale vibe, although it’s not entirely a fairytale. Just like there are quite a lot of elements from famous fairytales in there (like the “click your heels three times to go home”), but it never becomes a true retelling. It’s a very magical story about a girl who has always been told she’s ugly discovering that people can love, like and appreciate her for who she is. But even more, she discovers that her magical powers are the key to defeating a very dark evil.
The writing style feels a little young at times, but in a way that also fits the princess in this story and the fairytale vibe. Just like the times the story over-explains itself or tells something instead of showing it add to the fairytale feel. The story does however have a really interesting plot with loads of danger, loads of action scenes and loads of challenges. The battle is far from easy and every time they think it’s over, they discover it’s far from over yet and will only get harder.
And along the way I also noticed that I started to grow attached to all the characters in this story. Especially Sarah quite soon became one of my favorites. She was so kindhearted and full of love! However, our leading lady also was lovely, especially because she had quite an amazing journey ahead of her. Of course, a charming prince plays a huge role in that journey, but their love is actually quite cute and really based on something.
I’m really curious to read the rest of the series! I just discovered that book 2 and 3 are on my kindle already, so I hope to get to those quite soon!
This is a good story. I enjoyed the concept behind it and I liked where it was going. Penny was well developed but there are just hints with the others. The antagonist is cool. I didn’t like the end. I didn’t feel like it flowed well. I’m going to read the next book and than I’ll know if I’m going to read the rest.
I received an ARC and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.
¡What beauty really meant!
When all your life you had learned beauty was the most mattered thing, you believed it as truth mostly in a status quo world. However, real beauty came from inside, from actions over words, using kindness and friendship. Through this book, Penny was learning this lesson in the mightiest way, fighting danger to help others to be free of their fears that threaten someone else. Just look at this awesome journey Penny engaged.
Mira Crest gave us a stunning charming world where everything could be possible just with your own will, presenting sweet well-developed players, who faced all kinds of emotions that let them discover they were stronger than they thought. This plot was full of danger, magic, and assumptions, that twisted and turned to realize real love came from family and friends. I loved the shoe box Penny uses to yield her feelings into weapons. ¡A must-read book that engaged you until the end, when you love magic after all!
I agreed to receive an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest and voluntary review.
A fascinating tale of magical mayhem, where nothing is as it seems! Who is good who is evil? No one knows! Right is wrong, love cannot be trusted, the truth is a lie! It keeps you guessing, bewildered and confused as you think you have it figured out, but you don’t! Magical creatures, good and evil, beautiful faces hide ugly emotions. Death, desperation, despair, destruction, and demons abound as they try to survive, protect the innocent, and conquer the evil! Can they, do they? Many will lose the battle, their sanity, and their lives! True love will be put to the test! A fantastic magical mystery and adventure full of surprises and suspense!
The story of a Hidden Princess.
This was a good story and was interesting. The Princess has a hard time until her friend helps her. As she finally gets to go out in the world she finds what’s really out there. I loved the storyline and can’t wait for more! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Interesting take on a classic tale. The characters are detailed and interesting and the story flows smoothly.
A unique story about dragons and humans. Very well detailed and written in such a way that it keeps pulling you in. I am definitely going to follow the series. I love it, although there were places where the writer was telling the story but except from that very good book for people who love dragons, love reading stories about a dejected person becoming a hero. I love Penny and prince Everett already. Looking forward to the other books.
