For anyone who’s ever been on the receiving end of an unsolicited dick pic… one scam artist and troll at a time, and I sometimes bend a few rules to get justice done.
He’s a military man with abs of glory, sworn to uphold the letter of the law no matter its shortcomings. And if he’d known who—or what—I was, I doubt he would’ve banged me at my best friend’s wedding reception.
Or come back for more.
Which is why he’s now the only thing standing between me and one very pissed off internet troll who’s figured out where I live.
I’m pretty sure he’ll get me out of this alive—and quite satisfied, thank you very much—but I’m also pretty sure this mission will end with me in handcuffs.
And not the good kind of handcuffs.
The Hero and the Hacktivist is a romping fun SEAL / Best Friend’s Brother / Robin Hood in Cyberspace romance between a meathead and an heiress, complete with epic klutziness, terrible leg warmers, and an even worse phone virus gone wrong. This romantic comedy stands alone with no cheating or cliffhangers and ends with a fabulously fun happily ever after.

Pippa Grant is definitely an author who I know will give me hours of laughter and ridiculous situations. Hero and the Hacktivist does just that. We meet Eloise Jayne in previous books and she has always been a bit of a mystery. We finally find out what she is about and she is a nut, but with a heart of gold. Rhett is a hunky Navy Seal who seems a bit lost since he is currently desk bound. They are a perfect mismatched match.
They both seem like complete opposites, but as you go through their journey you see how similar they really are; they both are warriors and fight for others and trying to save the world, in their own way. Rhett is in the military and goes out in missions to fight for peace and Eloise by righting the wronged via the web. When they connect the sparks fly and craziness ensues. When Eloise goes after the wrong people, Rhett suspects something is up and his protective instincts comes into play. I loved how he just got Eloise’s weirdness and was protective of any bashing of said weirdness. Their story is funny and hot! I think besides the the sexy banter between Rhett and Eloise, my favorite scenes were all the text messages between everyone, autocorrect is awesome!
This was a fun and silly read but my favorite Pippa Grant story still belongs to Rockaway Bride.
Makes ya laugh til ya cry and makes your heart feel like it’s going to explode from all the emotions!
How can Pippa keep making men you can’t help but fall in love with? Rhett just beat out all the rest for my heart! And Eloise makes me want her. I loved them! So good! All the Pippa Grant humor with that huge dose of feels!
The Hero and the Hactivist has all of my favorite things: strong, intelligent shero; powerful yet empathetic hero; hilarious supporting cast; smoldering chemistry that quickly turns incendiary; laugh-out-loud banter; set-the-sheets-on-fire love scenes; and a happily ever after that suits the characters perfectly.
I have been a Pippa Grant fan from the first novel I read (Stud in the Stacks), and even though this entire series is available free through Kindle Unlimited, I actually bought this one prior to its release because I just knew I had to have it in my permanent collection. And let me tell you, that is major coming from someone as thrifty as I am.
Pippa is a master at building a world that sucks the reader in from the very first sentence, and The Hero and the Hactivist does not disappoint. The way she introduces characters in previous novels and slowly teases out their personalities prior to the release of their own novel leaves you desperate to be there for their happily ever after. Because I love a series that allows me to invest in an entire community rather than just a specific couple, Pippa is on a short list of authors that I will consistently preorder.
If you do not like cursing, dirty talk, or descriptive sex scenes, then you should probably pass on this novel. If you do, this book is the perfect candidate to one-click.
Eloise is a drummer, a hacker and an activist. She’s mysterious and independently wealthy. She’s also different, tattooed and has lots of insecurities. And she’s a criminal. When she and Rhett hook up at his sister’s wedding, neither expects what happens afterward. She because men never come back for seconds with her. He because he’s supposed to be worrying more about his SEAL career. But they cannot get enough of each other and that attraction will change both their lives.
When Eloise needs a hero, though, who better to help than Rhett, a Navy SEAL and professional badass warrior? Rhett is starting to catch feelings for his petite, tattooed chaos. What’s a big, bad SEAL to do when a tiny little criminal needs his help? Help? Run away because he can’t be having feelings for her, for a criminal? Hmmm…
I thought The Hero and the Hacktivist was laugh out loud fun, witty, and sexy. I adored Rhett and Eloise’s chemistry. Seemingly mismatched souls were perfect together. So why 4 instead of 5 stars that I normally give Pippa’s writing? One word – Eloise. I’m afraid that she annoyed me A LOT. Yes she was fun and crazy and cute. But she was too much for me. Her inner and outer thoughts were probably meant to be snarky and cute but to me they came off as just annoying, as did she. Just annoying. Aside from her, though, The Hero and the Hacktivist was top notch. Sexy, fun and funny, and had lots of heart. Pippa hasn’t let me down yet and I doubt she ever will.

4.5/5
If you’re looking for an outrageously sweet, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with steam, mystery and hijinks then The Hero and the Hackitivist is the book you want. While all Pippa Grant books are laugh out loud funny, each one gets better and better. I highly recommend all of her books. I own all of Pippa Grant’s books and they definitely get me out of any funk.
We’ve met both Rhett before in Stud in the Stacks Rhett (The Hero) is Parker’s brother and this book starts at Parker and Knox’s wedding. You don’t need to have read Stud in the Stacks before reading this book but it’s even more fun if you have since some of the running jokes continue into this one (none are critical but even more fun). We also know Eloise from several other previous books (mainly Mister McHottie, Stud in the Stacks, and Rockaway Bride – the other members of their all girl boy band cover band). Eloise is outrageous, saying and doing things to make her seem weirder than she is. I loved getting to know both these characters even more (and hope to see more of Parker’s other brothers fall hard).
I loved the added suspense element to this story. It made The Hero and the Hacktivist even more of a page-turner than previous Pippa Grant books. I read an advanced version of this book but bought it immediately once the pre0rdert links went live. You should too!
I could live in Pippa’s fantasy world. The characters are outrageous, the friendship is heartwarming, the steamy sessions… ooh my! I was sucked into Rhett and Eloise’s HEA from page one.
Ah Pippa Grant. Damn. You have done it again.
This was my first time on her ARC list and I could not be happier. I have loved these weird interconnected stories for ages and every single teaser for The Hero and the Hacktivist made me more and more desperate to get my grubby little hands on this book. Why? Because we’ve met these two weirdos before. And the brief glimpse of Rhett in Stud in the Stacks (climbing in through the window of his sister’s apartment for one), made me want to see more of this guy. Then there’s Eloise, the hacktivist and all-around mystery girl of the past million books since her introduction. I wanted to know what her deal was so bad.
So, Eloise is a part of the not yet named band with Sia (Mister McHottie), Parker (Stud in the Stacks, and Rhett’s sister), and Willow (Rockaway Bride). She’s always been a little mysterious, unknown job, lots of money and hits on everyone’s brothers (even when the wives are around). She’s bold and crazy and super frigging cool. She’s a hacktivist where she takes down bad guys for fun. She’s an heiress, she has the time and the money to do it.
Rhett is the younger brother of Parker (not entirely sure on the birth order but I know she’s the oldest) who is constantly threatening to tell their mother he’s knocked someone up. He does a lot of the same about her and Knox (Side note, she’s so gonna get pregnant, if only because that would be hilarious. Also, Sia getting pregnant would also be incredibly funny.) Rhett is a SEAL, so he’s got skills that makes him the hero Eloise needs. I mean he’s more than qualified, he’s saved the world a couple times over.
Now going into this, I did not expect the plot to revolve around Eloise pissing off the Leg Warmer Mafia. I am not unhappy. In fact, this kind of weird is exactly what I’ve come to expect in these books, and it’s awesome. It makes the danger so much more light-hearted and funnier. She’s moved some money around because Dirk Lemonson (our bad guy) is preying on women online and taking their money while catfishing them. Obviously, he’s not happy, because she stole all his money (millions) and directed it toward actual charities that do awesome things. Meaning Eloise is basically Robin Hood. But this does get her into trouble, and Rhett is the one to save her when Dirk Lemonson sends bad guys after her. Rhett and his buddy Pigpen keep her safe like the badasses they are, and now I want more of Pigpen.
And then there’s the sex. I actually ended up highlighting almost all of the different ways their junk is referenced (I’m pretty sure Rhett named his dick Mr Winky), and I’m officially worried about Pippa. I mean ‘disco stick in my banana basket’, ‘breadstick in my Alfredo bowl’ are two gems.
Fun names are also Eloise’s cats, Princess Sparkle Butt and Prince Snufflesaurus. I swear I’m not making this up. And Pigpen, God I want his story.
This book is epic, the love story is one for the ages, and these characters will make you keep coming back for more.
These two start as kind of weird enemies, not really wanting to want each other. And watching the walls of two quite guarded people break down is awesome. Their love story isn’t exactly lovey-dovey, but the
Also, I’ll leave you with this.
Rhett strips out of his shirt and holy mother of binary, I just ovulated so hard I think an egg fell out of my nose.
And yes. Binary is hot.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Rhett and Eloise are classic opposites attract, with witty, snarky and innuendo laden dialogue. The fourth wall is broken in hilarious fashion, in a way that gets the reader even further engaged with the story. I snort laughed every time there was a texting scene with Parker’s autocorrect antics… This book was a brilliantly written to be thoughtful, sexy and funny at the same time. Eloise’s friends are all back in supporting roles, and it’s loads of fun. Well done! Grab a copy…
A seal and a hacker walk into a bar…
Pippa Grant does it again with The Hero and the Hacktivist where we finally see Eloise meet her match in both Rhett and his Ass of Glory, and an epic hacking error involving an international leg warmer conglomerate involved in illegal labor and financial practices.
Rhett and Eloise know of each other, but at Parker and Knox’s wedding, they each find themselves needing to scratch a particular itch and find that the other party fits the bill perfectly. Rhett sets off all the bells and whistles for Eloise, but she is a one and done gal. Rhett also thinks it’s a one off but at the back of his head thinks maybe her type of crazy could be the key to what is making his life seem…off.
After going their separate ways, they don’t expect to see each other. After all, Rhett is a Seal on recruiting duty and Eloise is a self-funded hacker due to her inheritance as an heiress. Due to mutual friends, book club, and her all-girl boy band, Eloise is seeing a whole lot of Rhett and is finding a hard time saying no to him, especially his magic fingers when he locks her in the server room after a set at the club and makes her see stars. But Eloise is in trouble, and she needs a hero.
Eloise is a hacker; a really good hacker, but she made a mistake somewhere and now someone wants to kill her. Now it’s up to Rhett to keep Eloise and her brother Davey alive, and figure out who is trying to come after Eloise. If he can do that, then he can work on the impossible; trying to convince Eloise that sometimes love is worth the risk after all.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself, which is pretty normal for Pippa. I have read every book by this author, so I am heavily invested in the characters at this point. Watching awkward Eloise get her HEA was just wonderful.
I did wish for a bit more info on Davey, but this was not his book.
I also wanted more background info on the OP that went wrong that caused Rhett to be reassigned to recruiting duty. This situation was repeatedly referenced and seemed to weigh heavily on the character so it felt a bit incomplete to have so much reference to the event and all the players in the event, as well as the parts they played in it and now play, but to not have the details of the event. I know that in a great deal of literature, inference and audience perspective is expected, but in romantic comedy, I much prefer to be spoon fed than to sit back and think “what if?”
Eloise was a complete and total nut. Eloise was my spirit animal. So many readers said that she was over the top or she was too much. NO. WAY. It will be interesting to see what Eloise “the mother” is like, but I really hope she is just as wild.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
Eloise and Rhett are very alike yet not. One likes chaos, the other is chaos and together they work. Both try to right the wrongs in the world, one in the military and one with a computer. This book is hilarious. Its characters (friends and family) zany. It has a little angst which will keep the story flowing as they find their way toward happiness. The characters surrounding her are from Pippa’s other books (if you haven’t read them yet, you will want too. This is a standalone story, so no worries) and some new ones. The characters surrounding his life are unique and I hope we get more of them in other books. The angst has a serious flavor but it’s not graphically described so hopefully it won’t trigger anyone. Mostly, you will laugh out loud! You will lose your mind with the cell phone ringing. Eloise’s mind takes chaotic paths but it flows toward goodness. Rhett is a protective hunk! This book will make you feel good except when you realize there are no more pages to read. It’s one where I did not want it to ever end. I received an ARC from the author. This is my hearfelt, honest review of this entertaining story.
I would give it more stars if I could. I received this book in exchange for a honest review. I would have bought anyway. In fact I’ll probably still buy it just because I feel so strongly about it. I’ve read this entire series, and had waiting anxiously for this one. It did not disappoint at all. In fact this one is in the running for my favorite of the series. You might want to make sure you don’t start it until you have significant time because you will not be able to put it down. Your family will have to fend for themselves. Absolutely one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. Be prepared to be on the receiving end of strange looks if you try to read it in public because you will be physically unable to stop the laughter. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Another well-written, hysterically funny, wonderfully steamy book by Pippa Grant. I loved the characters, and the book is laugh-out-loud funny in lots of places!
I can’t recommend a book by Pippa Grant enough. It has everything I look for in a romance; humor, heart, and heat. I laughed from start to finish which is one of the things I look forward to when I pickup a Pippa Grant book. This book has such great characters that just suck you into the book. It’s one you want to gobble up, but at the same time take your time because you hate to see it end. Pippa has such a way with creating such quirky intriguing, and lovable characters. I enjoy that with her books you get revisit some of the couples from previous books. I LOVED Rhett and Eloise so much. They couldn’t have been more perfect for one another. They really complete one another. They had such great sexual chemistry, but you can also feel the connection beyond the bedroom. I highly recommend you pick this one up you will not be disappointed!
2 huge heroes: the big bad muscular SEAL and the fake nasty and horny hacker: What a couple!
I laughed from beginning to end. The two characters are just fabulous by their respective madness: the SEAL Rhett deceptively debonair but who is in hero mode without necessarily realizing it all along, and Eloise, the drummer of a group of covers boys band, hacker secret activist most of the time to be a hidden heroine, who plays sexual excitement to make everyone flee and no one is interested in her. Except that it is this madness accompanied by lies (as crazy as each other are) that attract Rhett who understands that there is much more under the layers of sarcasm and fake easy girl. Moreover, Eloise is the first to be surprised when Rhett says yes to her sex proposition during his sister’s wedding.
I loved the dialogues, the situations and what intrigue … who would have thought that the mafia of the leg warmer could be so powerful. The story oscillates constantly between the action novel romantic comedy sometimes quite hot.
Pippa Grand once again gave me a great time, and I will never again see coconut oil and twisted candies in the same way.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Twizzler alert! I will never look at them the same. Like all Pippa Grant books you are guaranteed a rip roaring panty melting wall climbing good time! This is a must read book!
Here’s the thing: I love Pippa Grant. I have since I read Mr. McHottie – somehow she is able to give us zany, real-life realness complete with laugh out loud hilarity (that doesn’t feel cheap or forced), sexiness and heat and CHEMISTRY up the wazoo, plots that riveting, and characters that you wish that were real actual people that you knew. That’s what I’ve gotten from every book of hers that I’ve read since Mr. McHottie, including The Hero and the Hacktivist. The fact that we met Rhett and Eloise in previous books made the anticipation for their story so sweet and I was so happy that the author was able to meet and exceed my expectations. In fact, I loved their story so much that I want to go back and start at the beginning of this group of interconnected standalones and meet them again so that I can binge on their love and the love of all of their friends and family. This was the book that I needed after reading a very good yet very heavy book, followed by some mediocre smut, and a book that left me feeling meh. So thank you for rescuing my reading week Ms. Grant. 4.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
Pippa writes the most hilarious characters who have the most amazing inner ramblings.
Eloise was such a mysterious character, and it was nice to finally see the girl behind the drums.
Rhett was a broken souls who was trying to find his purpose in life.
These two were complete opposites in every way, but they worked.
I enjoyed the wild ride of this book and the suspense that took place. It was full of fun antics and action that had me laughing out loud through several parts.
– An Arc was generously provided in exchange for an honest review.-
A genuine hero and a likely hacker is what you would think this story is about, HA! Pippa doesn’t do normal so we get Rhett and Eloise and their wacky adventure. Get ready to giggle snort your way through this zany tale of a bored SEAL recruiter and a Robin Hood cyber goddess. I love the world Pippa has created with all these wonderful characters and their interwoven lives. Rhett is Parker’s brother (Stud in the Stacks) and Eloise is the drummer in the all girl cover band with Sia (Mr McHottie) and Willow (Rock Away Bride). The Berger twins also make an appearance at Book Club! Just read it! It will put a smile on your face for days!
Reasons to Read this book:
1) More Unicorns
2) Glitter Bomb threats
3) Twizzlers
4) Way more that would put my review in Jail.
Pippa. Never. Fails. to deliver the feels. All the feels. The laughter, the tears, the love. This is the elusive Eloise’s story. She is my hero. Is she a hacker? Yes, but she fights for the underdogs and is the Wonder Woman of the Internet. She is the one monitoring the crimes of the Internet and righting the wrongs. She thinks she has unearthed the leg warmer MLM scheme that targets women, she rights the wrong, but doesn’t realize the danger she has put herself into.
Enter Rhett, Parker’s brother (Stud in the Stacks) who has recently been assigned state-side after his SEAL team made a mistake and is struggling not being a hero. His moral compass points straight and narrow. He finds Eloise needs help and they find their happily ever after.
This is a funny rom-com. It had me laughing… a lot.
Rhett is a SEAL. He’s on recruiting duty as punishment. I do wish we would have gotten more about what went wrong during his last mission. Would have loved more details on that.
Eloise is the drummer for his sister, Parker’s, band. She’s also an heiress and a hacktivist.
I liked her, but she did lie a whole lot. I don’t even think she knew the truth sometimes. Honestly, just about everything she said was made up. It was way over the top. Yes, it had me laughing, but parts were just too much.
This is still a good read, and I did enjoy it.
I loved Nana and Davey.
