For anyone who’s ever been on the receiving end of an unsolicited dick pic… one scam artist and troll at a time, and I sometimes bend a few rules to get justice done.
He’s a military man with abs of glory, sworn to uphold the letter of the law no matter its shortcomings. And if he’d known who—or what—I was, I doubt he would’ve banged me at my best friend’s wedding reception.
Or come back for more.
Which is why he’s now the only thing standing between me and one very pissed off internet troll who’s figured out where I live.
I’m pretty sure he’ll get me out of this alive—and quite satisfied, thank you very much—but I’m also pretty sure this mission will end with me in handcuffs.
And not the good kind of handcuffs.
The Hero and the Hacktivist is a romping fun SEAL / Best Friend’s Brother / Robin Hood in Cyberspace romance between a meathead and an heiress, complete with epic klutziness, terrible leg warmers, and an even worse phone virus gone wrong. This romantic comedy stands alone with no cheating or cliffhangers and ends with a fabulously fun happily ever after.

At last we get our hands on Eloise’s story and find out so much more about this little fire cracker of a woman! Surrounded by people, she hides behind her bravado, to deflect and, effectively, hide. She has met her match in a man who is a rock and sees her. I loved Rhett. And Pigpen! More about him please? With her dedication to righting wrongs she uses her skills to foil baddies, reveal cheaters and dance around on the periphery of life. Stubborn and uncertain about relationships, her tender heart beats for her causes and her brother. Now it is time to expand the dimensions of her life! With shenanigans galore, banter and hot times, this book is fun, and laughter filled.
Welcome to Girl Band #4, The Hero and the Hacktivist. I couldn’t get into this one like I did the other books in this series. I know I’m in the minority here, but I just couldn’t connect to Eloise and Rhett like it did Chase and Sia, Willow and Dax, or Parker and Knox. It was more Eloise than Rhett. She is just too immature and insecure and uses all sorts of crazy to cover it up. It’s not really even fun crazy, either. The humor is typical Pippa Grant style, which gave it some redemption. I didn’t not like The Hero and the Hacktivist, I just didn’t like it like I normally like a Pippa Grant book.
4 Unicorn Glitter Stars
The Hero and the Hacktivist is the fourth book in the Girl Band series by Pippa Grant. I was going to skip this one and boy am I glad I didn’t. This book stars if with a bang.. Literally! Rhett Elliott is Parker’s brother (Stud in the Stacks)
“I love Twizzlers like I imagine most normal women love their children, except most normal women don’t eat their children, and I will eat the shit out of Twizzlers.”
Eloise is an elf sized computer geek with has so many secrets, but if her friends knew the real her they would think she was boring. She would no longer be the acentric friend. She also likes to fight for the underdog and this has finally gotten her in a bit of a pickle!
“I could get addicted to a guy with heart who’s strong enough and quick enough and patient enough to handle me.”
Rhett sees the real Eloise, the amazing, strong, intelligent woman beneath the false bravado, and wants help and keep her safe. But Eloise can’t help but make things difficult because why would he want to help her!
“Did you just say aficionados? And in respect to leg warmers?”
Grant gives us a plot that is complete crazy with occasional cringey bits, LOL moments, steamy, and escape from reality fun. There are so many secondary characters in this book that they make the fun so good. I highly recommend this book to read!
The Hero and the Hacktivist is the fourth book in the Girl Band series, but is all part of Ms. Grant’s bigger universe of awesomeness. Rhett is a floundering SEAL, a man without an exciting mission, that is until his one night stand and his sister’s best friend captures his attention. Not only is she outrageous, but she’s cute, has so many secrets he needs to unravel, and now she’s in serious trouble. But will this lone, crazy wolf accept the help of her friends and the man she’s falling for, or will his sense of right and wrong get in the way of forever?
Oh my goodness, this book was the perfect blend between being sweet, laugh out loud funny, dig into your heart, and a little bit weird, but it’s definitely the type of book that once you start, you don’t want to put it down! Rhett and Eloise are both a little bit odd, both a lot a bit badass, and both are heroes in their own right! I absolutely loved their connection, the silliness that drew them together, and the seriousness that had them wanting to create something real and special. Eloise is so out there, but she uses her crazy as a way to push people away, to not get hurt, and to not risk rejection when it truly matters. I loved getting to know her more, to learn about her motivations, and to see beyond her wildness! Rhett was the perfect counterbalance to Eloise because he was steady like a rock, practical to her fantasy, and just as much as a hero. He was willing to go the necessary route to save everyone he loved and was ultimately willing to fight for the most important person to him. I really loved them together! I really loved this book! I loved getting to see the rest of the Girl Band ladies and their mates, and I’m actually sad that this part of Ms. Pippa Grant’s universe is over!
Probably the fastest paced book in the series, with plenty of laughs and craziness, and some suspense too. Love seeing the whole gang gather ’round to help one of their own in trouble. Each MC’s emotional arc developed in a way that was natural and added depth to the story. Absolutely recommend.

The Hero and the Hacktivist
Eloise uses her backing skills to take down a scammer of women into a unknown pyramid scheme. What she didn’t know is the person behind is a real Baddy!! Luckily for her, Parker’s Navy Seal brother, Rhett who she hooked up with at her & Knox wedding, is staying in the city. He’s attending their bands shows & book club.
Rhett isn’t fooled by all of Eloise’s distraction tactics. He’s hooked by her crazy chaos instead. He does realise, along with her friends & band mates that she’s possibly in trouble & about to run. He’s determined to protect her & help in any way necessary! He & his Team are in their own trouble. Their last mission went wrong, a team brother was broken & they hadn’t noticed. Now they’re all either discharged or in offices.
This was a fun read. Eloise was fun but she was a too over the top for me. I liked Rhett, even with his hero complex. Eloise just spewed random for randoms sake, mostly, but also to hide her insecurities!? It didn’t feel realistic to me. It was still fun & I loved them together.

You can’t take these books too seriously if you want to enjoy them. They are slapstick funny and worth your financial & time investment (though I’ll cop to my KU membership)
My biggest complaint is that these books are listed as “Stand Alone” and aren’t even linked as a part of a series. Yes, they have a beginning, conflict/drama, & resolution ~ but if you’re reading them out of order YOU ARE MISSING SO MUCH. Characters/antics from previous books are mentioned or referred to and you just won’t get the full effect if you’re reading these silly nilly.
So do yourself a favor, go to Pippa’s website and check out the order they were released in and dive in.
As for this book in particular ~ I *LOVED* Rhett & Eloise. They are independent people and yet mesh so fantastically together. Eloise is over the top quirky and Rhett gets and appreciates her in a way that no one really does. I really enjoyed getting to know them better and am hoping that we’ll see a book about PigPen and other team members sometime after Gavin. (Hint,Hint Pippa! )
Eloise and Rhett really rock the boat. They are both loaners who don’t know how much they need love, how much they need each other. This is funny, snarky, actiony, intense, suspenseful, sweet and oh so loveable. I love Pippa’s humor. I love all of the friends and family and the intertwined stories.
Two of the most different people in the world fall in love, albeit with a lot of hiccups and misunderstandings. Love the humor and the heroine is one of my all-time favorites – she has dark humor and incredibly sarcastic.

Not the romantic-suspense novel I was hoping for but not a horrible read. Definitely has a quirky and sometimes crude sense of humor.
Tender, sweet, tough as nails – they all describe this delightful story of Rhett, the SEAL, and Eloise, the computer age Robin Hood out to save the world from the bad guys. How little did they know just how bad those bad guys were. Both were hiding vulnerable insides under tough outer shells. The regular cast is here as well with the addition of Eloise’s brother, Davey, and Rhett’s SEAL team. I laughed and I cried – went through the whole gamut of emotions. And the bonus epilogues were a kill. Keep ‘em coming!
I’m not sure that anyone would have put up with Eloise. Fiction but a little harder to believe this one. Still funny though…
LOVE THIS STORY! My absolute favorite of all of Pippa Grant’s books. I’ve read this at least a half dozen times. I think I love it that Eloise gets under Rhett’s skin and how much he really enjoys her. They are awesome and cute and wonderful together. I laugh so much every time I read it. Wonderful!
Pippa rules! Every book is funny and has the most charming characters!
Hilarious
This book was so crazy and over the top, I was laughing from start to finish. Between Parker’s autocorrect and Eloise’s insane come ons, I died about a million times. Another great book in this universe!

I’ve been waiting for Eloise’s story since she was mentioned in Stud in the Stacks; I wasn’t disappointed. Rhett is the perfect compliment to her chaos and I kind of want to be her when I grow up. She’s such a badarse but is also so humanly broken that I just want to pull her into a hug and never let go. If I can’t be her, I want her as a bestie.
Rhett is also amazing and I loved the roller coaster these two took me on.
I highly recommend this book!
There are three things I have come to expect when I read a Pippa Grant book. 1. I will snort at some point 2. The couple will be fantastic and 3. She will introduce a supporting character that will have me clamoring for his/her story! Per usual this was another fantastic read.
I couldn’t put this story down! Eloise was a riot and I wouldn’t mind bumping into Rhett in a dark alley. How does Pippa come up with these outrageously hysterical and entertaining stories?!? Love love love this one! I think it may tie with Mister McHottie for my favorite Pippa Grant story.
Pippa Grant, has the most wonderful way of expressing herself.
It’s almost like another language. I love it.
Eloise Jayne (aka an accidental heiress who gets laid a lot less than she pretends), is a drummer in an all girls band but she also has an inheritance that allows her and her brother Davey, not to have to work.
Eloise, had mad hacking skills that she uses to avenge the innocent. A Robin Hood of the Cyber world.
Rhett Elliott (aka a badass hero suffering in silence), a Navy seal, who had a mission go sideways it’s back with a disasembled team and stuck in a recruitment office with no action.
They hookup at her best friend’s wedding and who happens to be his sister.
When he senses that Eloise, is in trouble, his Seal senses are on high alert.
In away, they are so much alike.
Nobody understands their brand of crazy. They just get one another.
As he vows to protect her, she doesn’t want him to get hurt on her account.
Someone is out to kill her for relocating his illegal money.
This is a page turner.
Another awesome read by Pippa Grant.
I can’t wait for the next book.
Absolutely loved this book. A worthy story of beautiful chaos!! Eloise is delightfully insane and a beyond brilliant hacker. At a wedding, she finds the ever observant Navy SEAL Rhett with muscles and a** of glory for a one-night stand. He’s the brother of her best friend, who is sticking around town while waiting for his next assignment.
Eloise is a “Hacktivist extraordinaire. Tatted goddess” with a robin hood streak a mile long, helping to right the wotld of internet trolls and scammer / scum of the earth who pray on women through leg warmers and life coaching lessons. Having bitten off a bit more than she realized when she gets hacked back and her apartment ransacked, a quick bang with a HOT SEAL and goodbye to her brother should be easy. But she didn’t count on Rhett looking through her and figuring out something’s up. Through an awkward kidnapping/protective detail for her own good, Eloise pulls out all her crazy tricks and Rhett sees through it while waiting for Eloise to admit she needs help, beyond the CRAZY HOT chemistry they have when inches apart from each other.
Loved how Eloise’s brand of crazy and lying created a bubble that nobody was able to see through until Rhett took the time to stare her down. These two are more alike then they realize as they each waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting to be disappointed like in the past. The strength of a good tough love that the other provides prevails, and the welcome chaos that both Eloise and Rhett thrive on.
I received an ARC for a voluntary and honest review.
