Frank Cotton’s insatiable appetite for the dark pleasures of pain led him to the puzzle of Lemarchand’s box, and from there, to a death only a sick-minded soul could invent. But his brother’s love-crazed wife, Julia, has discovered a way to bring Frank back—though the price will be bloody and terrible . . . and there will certainly be hell to pay.
I grew up being terrified by Pinhead and the cenobites in Hellraiser. They are gruesome and the very things that nightmares are made of. So naturally, I wanted to see what Clive Barker’s original story was like. Surprisingly, it was very similar to the original movie, down to the dialogue. I didn’t love the writing style, and felt there was a …
This is a beautiful, horrific book that introduces us to the Cenobites and Kirsty. Hellraiser the Movie, was based on this book. Read it many, many years ago and still read it to this day!
Love the imagery and suspense that each page contains…from the beginning it leaves you with many questions and hooks you right up. The story make you hopeful but then tears you down it’s definitely horror with a tragic ending.
One of the better books of Clive Barker’s that I’ve read. I like the sparse structure with a clean straight through narrative.
Extraordinary idea and well executed. Will suit horror fans. While there is some gore, it’s never gratuitous or over done.
If you have seen the movie, the book really isn’t worth reading. The writing is very good and I wish I had read it first. Also, it’s a novella priced as a novel…
One of my all time favorites. Way better than the Hellraiser movies.
This book is amazing! A novella in classification, it was such a revolutionary book that it spawned an entire cult following and a rather amazing franchise.
I’ve reread this book recently and it withstand the test of time.
Such a great horror novel. I recommend this to anyone who likes horror and any fans of hellraiser.
Never read the book but enjoyed the movies. Pinhead is my favorite character.
CLIVE BARKER IS GREAT!
What a fantastic dark tale.
I have been a fan of the Hellraiser movies since seeing the first one years ago, but for whatever reason, I never got around to reading this.
While you can find the general summary of the movie within, I found this novella far darker and far more twisted psychologically than the movies. The first movie worked hard to …
Not my favorite Barker book, but it a good one.
Clive Barker has a way with words like no other horror author.
Typical Barker but wonderful read!
This is the book where Clive Barker introduces The Hell Priest (Pinhead). The only real problem with this book first it is to short, second it does not have the Cenobites in it basically till the end. The book was a good book and I recommend it, and it is kind of weird, but you need to read “The Scarlet Gospels” right after this book, because it …
The was the book that got me started. I’d been writing a little bit up to that point, but it opened my imagination to the possibilities. That prose and fiction wasn’t limited to what you see on TV or read in school, that it can be terrifying, grotesque, and beautiful all at once.
“So intent was Frank upon solving the puzzle of the lemarchand’s …
