Word of warning, I was feeling down and cranky when I read this, and am taking it out on these poor characters trapped in their HP universe. I did enjoy it as the H comes around and the heroine is…
Oh dear, the heroine is a Disney princess! Winsome, sweet, hopeful and a little slow on the uptake. She thinks the hero hasn’t come back for her after their ONS because he has amnesia or got lost in a jungle. She will soon wish he had amnesia or had gotten lost.
As for the hero, ah the hero. The duplicitous jackass should be shot, but he’s Italian so a nice engraved stiletto would be better.
I am Miss Cranky Pants today. One, I have let reality rears its ugly head while I read this and, two, the girl next to me is singing Holiday
If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
(Come on, let’s celebrate)
Just one day out of life
(Holiday)
It would be, it would be so nice
No, it wouldn’t.
The H and h had a ONS where she fell in love and he left because she fell in love. She thinks/hopes he has amnesia while she is now working 60 hour weeks with her ONS surprise. Her friends kind of stink as they make fun of her Pollyanna hopes and dreams. Hey, that’s my job!
H and h run into each other as one is want to do in a city of 8.6 million people. He’s a jerk, but reality hits through his skull and he realizes that the plot moppet is his.
The h wants love and he agrees to honor and cherish but no love. I actually thought this was a good deal, but let’s add stubborn to the winsome, sweet, hopeful and a little slow on the uptake stuff. She has a brain freeze at the wedding and wants to talk about calling it off, but he threatens her with EVERYTHING: taking the baby, ruining her family and all kinds of yuck. She swears, no she vows, he will never touch her again. Blink. That lasts until they have sex against the wall during the reception. Bad girl.
They marry and she’s a loving on him, but he just honors and cherishes…and, okay, sex.
The hero wants his family’s old Fashion House back, and hires a nightmare of an avant garde fashion designer that is a total fail particularly since the H never questions him AT ALL! The heroine is so appalled she wears her own concoction to the unveiling which infuriates the H. I guess I forgot to mention she wants to be a designer.
The fashion show fails miserably. Think Kanye West’s attempt, and the heroine starts to push for those three little words. The H is a pill, but personally speaking as a reader wise in the ways of HP H’s now, he was loving her anyway.
Somewhere, somehow she finds a bit of backbone and leaves.
And here comes my favorite part of the book, a mere month later she is putting on her own fashion show in New York City. I love the HP universe. She’s a fashion school dropout, but manages to pull together an office and a small collection of happy but casual clothes.
One of her friend gives her the money which begs the question why she didn’t lend her the money when she was working long hours for short pay for her jerk of an uncle!
Anyhoo, the H has grown up and found his heart and can say, “I love you!”
