The Heart of Winter
by Jennifer Hartley
The Heart of Winter is a different type of romance story, a heartfelt journey of two friends, coming home, and finding each other; while spending time together they find the magic of the holidays. Filled with drama, heartache, and wavering suspense; makes for one incredible reading experience. The Heart of Winter is an unrestrained wild ride with an excess of unexpected misfortune and surprises; blasting the readers emotions. It looks as if to be much more in store for this couple.
The characters are realistic and likable, that connected with each other, that the readers can relate with; with real life issues. And being drawn together again and to a friendship they once share; but with a new set of new challenges, obstacles and feelings to overcome.
Ms. Jennifer Hartley has done it again with another well written book; from the start. The writing is done so well that the readers can feel the characters’ emotions within the pages and the readers witness the struggles our characters are faced with. I really enjoyed this well written emotional story by Ms. Jennifer Hartley, although I was saddened when the story came to a sudden end; leaving many unanswered questions for not only the characters but for the storyline and a way for the author to continue the story in future books (if she chooses to do so).
Another amazing story from Ms. Jennifer Hartley, that flowed through the whole book; I could not put down and I even read it a second time. I just love Christmas and Christmas romance stories. Thank you for sharing your talent of writing this wonderful book for your readers and followers to enjoy. I have read several of Ms. Harley’s books and will continue to read more of her books in the future. I received a free copy to read, and feel that I can give my honest thoughts and feeling in my review of this book; with that being said I a honored to give both the author and her book 4-5 star rating.
At first I thought this story sounded similar to something I had watched before, but it quickly turned into an original and interesting story. I enjoyed the characters, humor, and twists throughout. I was disappointed it ended so abruptly.
I received a free copy of this book and have chosen to give my honest opinion.
I’m not sure if this is a 2 or 2.5 star book. I know it was an ARC, but it was so confusing. This story felt like it was all over the place.
Logan and Medina were partners in either gymnastics or ice skating. It wasn’t clear to me which one.
Then there was the pictures being taken at the Lodge issue, which made no sense to me. Either someone could tell it was them, or no one could tell it was them. And, if it was Logan and Medie, so what? I didn’t understand why such a big deal was being made about it. Then the issue regarding who took the pictures was never 100% confirmed, nor was it resolved.
Next, there was the issue with her Dad. It was resolved behind closed doors so to speak. There was never any information or discussion provided regarding what was said, no explanations, nothing.
What was the deal with Medina’s treatments? What illness? It was never described other than her body could no longer handle the training.
On to her relationship with Elias. All the secrets were a bit ridiculous. And why would Elias still be hostile 8 years later after he had moved on unless out of guilt?
There was so much more. The book started out slowly and picked up about 50% in to it. The best parts of the book were Logan and Medie’s banter.
There is a confusing statement toward the end. A flashback to their past. The last paragraph or two was written in the present, and it’s over. My only thought was, ” THAT’S IT?!!! ” No explanations of all the unresolved issues or holes in the storyline. No epilogue. Nothing.
Seeing as how I found the best part of the book to be the banter, I believe I will go with 2. I can’t bring myself to even give it an ok rating. I have too many unanswered questions. The premise seemed good, but it fell apart at some point, and I’m not even sure we get a HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy received from Booksprout.
Medina Callahan and Logan Prince were childhood friends who became championship gymnastics partners and won gold and silver at the Olympics. They had a complicated relationship that included a lot of hurt but a lot of happiness, as well. Medi left town after her gymnastics career was over and studied journalism with hopes of having a new career as a television personality. After making a big mistake on air and letting a hot mic pick up her complaints about hating Christmas, she is out to resurrect her good name by taking her audience back to where it all began, Tinselton. When she literally runs into Logan, the stage is set for a monumental re-pairing of the two who never quite got over the other. It took awhile for them to warm to each other, especially with Medi’s regrets and Logan’s doubts. The characters felt authentic and genuine as they began to find their way back to their friendship. There appears to be much more in store for this couple!
