The Heart of a Texas Cowboy is a beautiful Historical Western Romance focusing on two broken characters. Houston Legend agrees to a marriage of convenience to Lara Boone, who is a single mother of a baby. Both don’t want or expect love from this ‘marriage’ but sometimes things fall perfectly in place. This book is a slow-burn romance, and I love that the author took her time for these two characters to heal and connect. I have to admit I did want the pace of some parts to pick up a bit, however at the end I felt like the story had a great pacing. It made it possible for me to feel like I was one with the characters, and I got a good idea of how life was back in those days.
I especially loved reading the progression of Houston and Lara’s relationship. Lara was very skittish in the beginning, but was also a very strong and opinionated woman. These two were perfect together, and I loved seeing them interact. Also the way Houston handled the baby was so sweet, I just couldn’t get enough. Besides the main characters, the side characters were also very intriguing and I hope they will or already have their own books. The Heart of a Texas Cowboy is another great story by Linda Broday, and I can’t wait to read more of her books. The only thing I was missing was an epilogue, I would’ve loved to see what Houston and Lara were up to a couple of years later.
This is a riveting read. This is an early historical type read filled with gunslingers, Native American’s, trail riders, and cattle drives. Houston Legends life was turned upside down when the bride he set to marry was shot on their wedding day. His life was in total upheaval when he learned she had been pregnant with another mans baby. His life began to spiral out of control until his father worked up a plan with the neighbor to set his future on another path. This book is a riveting page turner!
