Jake Silver may not be able to put the memories of his time as a sniper and Navy SEAL behind him, but at least he can put his skills to use as a part of the Jones Inc. rescue team. Saving the life of pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Aria Sinclair on Denali helped too. Now he can’t get her out of his head, and when he hears she is in the path of a hurricane down in Key West he can’t help but jump on a … a plane to rescue her.Aria has dedicated her life to helping children born with defective hearts. After all, she was one of those children. Now driven to succeed, she lives a lonely, stressful life. One she would have lost on Denali if it hadn’t been for Jake. Jake is exciting and handsome, but he’s also dangerous, and she’s already lost one person she loves. She can’t bear it again. It’s not until she finds herself trapped in the middle of a category 4 hurricane that she can admit she needs Jake desperately. With their very survival in the balance, can they hope for a second chance at life . . . and love?

Susan May Warren has done it again with The Heart of a Hero. The second book in the Global Search and Rescue series has adventure, romance, and suspense all rolled into one. If you are looking for an adventurous read to take you away this summer, I highly recommend The Heart of a Hero.
Jake Silver is a former SEAL obsessed with fixing things to make up for his mistakes. Dr. Aria Sinclair is a doctor who runs away trying to protect her heart. Aria is attending a conference in the Florida Keys when a hurricane strikes. An accidental text to Jake instead of her friend sends him to her side. Trapped in a hospital with several other people, they need to ride out the hurricane and hopefully keep everyone alive.
Susan May Warren is one of the authors that I automatically buy because her books are that good. Just when I think that she cannot top herself, the next book comes out and I am proven wrong. She has a way with words that keeps you on the edge of your seat, making it hard to put down, even for sleep. The characters are well-developed and very real, leaving you with the feeling that they could be your neighbors.
Of the two main characters, I identified with Jake the most. I too am a fixer. I have struggled with things that I am unable to fix. But I can also identify with Aria, scared to risk her heart. God is sovereign, there is forgiveness available, and nothing can separate us from the love of God.
The Heart of a Hero is the second book of the Global Search and Rescue series. While it can be read alone, I would recommend reading them in order, as there are references to the first book, The Way of the Brave, where the characters initially met. If you enjoy epic romantic adventures, this is definitely a book you should read. You never know what might happen when you turn the page! The third book in the series is expected in October 2020, and I can hardly wait to read the story of Hamilton Jones.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher, but was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions expressed are solely mine.
Poor Aria cannot get a break. I think after the events of this book, she will refuse to ever go on vacation again. Last time, she fell off a mountain, and now she is stuck in the Keys during a hurricane. Fortunately, she has Jake to come to her rescue while causing some chaos of his own. This is an action-packed thrill ride that I would have given five stars to except for the yo-yo effect of the push away – pull together aspects of the romance.

Wow, wow, wow. Yes, I know this is such an elegant way of showing how much I love this book. *rolls eyes*
I’ve put off writing my review of The Heart of a Hero a month now. You know why? Because I have no idea how to do a review of a top five favorite book so far this year without spoiling it.
From The Way of the Brave we could see that Jake had a past. A sad one. I just didn’t know how sad or painful it would be.
Aria also had such a sad past that was hinted at, and we found out a bit about what had transpired in her life, in The Heart of a Hero we see so much more about her.
Now, I really don’t know how to say more about this book, except that if you are a romantic suspense reader you have to check this series out!
Oh, and I hope that Ellie may get her own book… Hint hint.
I know this is my worst review ever but I just don’t know how to give a better review without giving away spoilers, of which there are many!
(16 up due to dealing/mentioning past sins.)
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
The Heart of a Hero
by Susan May Warren
Book 2 in the Global Search and Rescue series
Rating: 5/5
So I definitely lost some sleep over this amazing ride! I love how Susan May Warren keeps outdoing herself. This is the second book in the series and I highly recommend reading the first but it’s not necessary to enjoy this thrilling adventure. While her first book dealt with blizzards in Alaska, this one deals with hurricanes in Key West. We continue getting to know the main characters after she introduced them in the first book, The Way of the Brave.
“Funny that when skies were clear, he was the storm. But in the middle of the storm…He was the calm.”
As a former sniper and Navy SEAL, Jake Silver was born to help people, and being a part of Jones Inc rescue team was only the next logical step. After helping save Dr. Aria Sinclair and her friends in Alaska, Jake knows that he and Aria have formed a connection that he can’t get away from. He shared things about his past with her that no one else knows, and she shared things with him that only made him want to protect her more. Too bad she doesn’t seem to want anything to do with him. Why does she seem to be running away from a relationship with him?
While Aria can admit that she and Jake have a connection after the traumatic events in Alaska, she is not that girl in real life. On vacation was different. She could be more adventurous like her twin sister, Kia, used to be, but when she returns back home, she has to be back to skilled pediatric heart surgeon with everything under control. There’s no room in her life for Jake and the risk he has on her heart. After a difficult patient loss, Aria’s boss sends her to a medical conference for some R and R. However, things get cut short when she finds herself stuck in Key West when category 4 Hurricane Lucy hits. A misdirected text also brings Jake to her rescue but can she find it in her heart to give their relationship a chance? Can these two heroes find a way to heal from their pasts and find their true identities?
The author has such an authentic way of incorporating her faith into her stories and I love how she is not afraid to deal with hard issues regarding PTSD and all that entails. Her writing always feels so genuine and well-researched. Her characters have their strengths and weaknesses that seem to only draw the readers into their world. The action and suspense force the reader to keep going until they reach the end.
Warning: The author also has a substory with characters from her next book who are part of the rescue team, but that story arc ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
All in all, I couldn’t put the book down and I highly recommend reading this action-packed suspense thriller with romance and a message about forgiving yourself. I also recommend reading the first book in the series before to get the full effect.
My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
I loved, loved, loved this book! What’s not to love? Jake Silver is a former Navy Seal who has not forgiven himself for his actions during war. Now he is part of the global rescue mission team and has already saved Dr. Aria Sinclair from her mountainside adventure in Alaska. In this book, Aria has rebuffed his attempts to woo her and fled to Florida for a medical retreat. The retreat turns out to be dangerous when a Cat 5 hurricane is headed directly for the Florida Keys where she is staying. Aria is her own kind of hero, determined to help others at her own peril. Jake flies to Florida to once again rescue Aria and there he meets all kinds of bad guys and obstacles. The hurricane was so described so vividly that I swore I could hear the rushing wind and the hard rain hitting against the windows! Susan May Warren did a masterful job of creating realistic characters with believable flaws. I enjoyed the sub-plot about Ham and his discovery of having a daughter. I did not read the first book in this series and I was able to follow the story just fine. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will look for more books by this author. With themes of second chances, forgiving yourself and others and trust, this is a book not to be missed by fans of Christian suspense.

Let us start with the setting of this book, shall we?
Susan May Warren takes us from a hospital to a tropical paradise in the Florida Keys. The descriptions of the weather and the hurricane are so vivid; It was like I was the one standing in water and running for cover. I enjoyed her take on what might happen (Or probably does happen) when a hurricane comes through the Keys. Her mental picture of the hospital made me feel like I could walk into that hospital and find my way around just by the way the characters talked about it. A lot of details went into this book without making you realize they are there until you go back over the book in your mind.
The characters were some of my favorites from Susan May Warren.
I loved Aria’s spunky and sarcastic personality mixed with her shy insecurities. I think it made her even more of a believable character as we see those traits in ourselves and those around us. Aria had such passion for helping others as well, her take-charge attitude in dangerous situations is something I would hope to have in those situations. Jake. Jake. Jake. I feel like I have been rooting for him since the beginning when he was mentioned in The Way of the Brave. He has such an adventurous and protective spirit to him that is captivating. He knows what he wants in life and goes boldly after it. Basically, the definition of a SEAL. He will go down as one of my favorite characters ever; and Aria and Jake will go down as one of my favorite couples.
There are so many secondary characters that helped make this story complete, but I will let you read about them and see why I liked them just as much as the primary characters! But… have I said how excited I am to see where Ham’s story ends up? Talk about Suspense!
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars for the Amazingly vivid description, the great cast of characters, and for just the right amount of suspense to keep me from falling out of my seat. I highly recommend checking out this series if you have not already done so.
*I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
As usual, Susan May Warren has created a moving, action-packed story with sweet romance!
Another great book in the Global Search and Rescue series by Susan May Warren. Wonderful characters and non stop action and suspense, accompanied by the grace and forgiveness factor throughout the nook makes this 5 star read!
Wow, wow, wow. This is probably now tied with my favorite author Warren story. Talk about an adrenaline rush…I had a really hard time trying to live in reality with this story unfinished in my life.
This is the second in the Global Search and Rescue series and there is an overarching storyline. This is the first one I have read and the author does a great job of catching the reader up, but who wouldn’t want to read the first. I do and now I just need to find the time.
Jake and Aria, what can I say. Jake is a scarred hero who loves a woman who does not want to be a damsel in distress. And it seems she always is around Jake. He doesn’t see her like that, he just loves her. Aria actually likes him being the hero if she wasn’t so caught up in her own head. Both have tragic paths that affect their present decisions and future paths, and I am really hoping that we get some closure on Jake’s.
Not only do we have their up and down relationship, but the dangerous weather and less than idea circumstances that rise up from that said weather has this story on a really fast rollercoaster. It was non-stop and I enjoyed every minute of it.
And the ending, with Ham…let’s just say I am really anticipating the third in this adventure rich series.
I received a copy of this novel from Revell through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
One of my favorite authors
Heart of a Hero
Susan May Warren has delivered another adventure romance that definitely packs a punch. Heart of a Hero delivers danger at every turn of the page, leaving the reader in a constant state of anticipation. While Ham focuses on confronting his past, Aria and Jake face down a hurricane and it’s aftermath. This quick paced novel is filled with twists, turns, and the unexpected. I find myself as usual wishing that there wasn’t quite so many heroic rescues or near death circumstances. For me the overload of danger and action takes this story to a bit of an unrealistic place, however that is my person taste. I think most readers welcome the danger at every turn type of plot that Susan May Warren provides. I always appreciate the clear and up front faith element that Susan May Warren adds to her novels. I personally enjoyed this book a bit more than the first novel in the series and am curious to see how the next book wraps it all up.
*I was given a copy of this book by the Publisher, however I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
**I received a copy of The Heart of a Hero from Revell and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions were not solicited in any way.**
The Heart of a Hero by Susan May Warren is the second book in her Global Search and Rescue series. I didn’t read the first book I still was able to read this addition without any problems. I do agree with one reviewer that it’s advisable to to read these in order. This book has non stop action from start to finish so hang on for a wild ride of a story. Please be aware this is a Christian romance
Dr. Aria Sinclair is recovering from her accident in Denali and after losing a young patient her supervisor tells her that he’s sending her to Key West to attend a conference. She knows refusing is not a option for not going and neither is attending a Fourth of July picnic. What she doesn’t know is that Jake Silver’s parents are having the celebration. He was the former Navy SEAL who was part of the rescue team for her friends. Little do they know that a Cat 5 Hurricane is coming (Remember Hurricane Irma devastated them in 2018). They will take shelter in the hospital with several local residents plus worry about escaped prisoners coming into the hospital because of it’s pharmacy.
Jake Silver is still dealing with guilt from a final mission as a SEAL and the rescue of Aria and her friends in Denali. He’s also debating on reenlisting back into the Navy as he needs to feel worthwhile again. His team leader Hamilton leaves him in charge of his daughter while searching out clues of his ex wife’s whereabouts. (This is why you need to read the first book) He’s also fighting feelings that he has for Aria. He’ll use all of his SEAL skills to keep Aria and all of the survivors who are sheltering at the hospital before the Global search team will be able to rescue all of them.
I could not wait to get my hands on this book! I first met Jake and Aria in The Way of the Brave and was dying to get to spend more time with them. Jake is all types of swoon-worthy hero, and he doesn’t even know it. In this book, The Heart of a Hero I got to meet Jake’s family and learn a lot more about what made him the man he is. His life has been far from easy and he’s often harder on himself than he should be. He loves with all he’s got, is quick to jump to action, and is loyal to the core. The perfect candidate for an elite rescue team.
This book had me laughing, crying and biting my nails. Warren had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t get enough and didn’t want to stop reading for anything. I could picture myself in the keys right alongside Jake and Aria fighting against hurricane winds. Warren has a way with words and quite often takes my breath away. I recommend this book to anyone who loves Romantic Suspense. I can’t wait to see what Warren does next, and hope that she won’t make me wait too long! I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This second book in the Global Search and Rescue series picks up where the first one leaves off, with a continuation of Jake and Aria’s new and undefined relationship, the appearance of Ham’s secret daughter, and the search for answers to his wife’s mysterious disappearance. It would definitely help to read The Way of the Brave first, to get to know Jake and Aria since their story begins there as a subplot. While the first book left me feeling frigid from the snowy mountain setting, The Heart of a Hero took us to tropical Florida, but no less dangerous with a hurricane devastating the area. Aria is dealing with her regrets from the mountain climbing trip and her continued attraction to Jake, who seems all wrong for her (but of course he’s just what she needs). Jake is drawn to Aria and her compassionate way of drawing out his deeper feelings that he’s struggling with. They each have issues with their past that involve siblings, and I loved that even though they are both uncertain and vulnerable with their feelings for each other, they still provide support and encouragement for each other as they work through their emotions. Others that they have rescued also provide inspiration with the themes of forgiveness and being enough, and Mimi was a favorite. The chapters from Ham’s perspective were more difficult for me because they dealt with past missions and flashbacks from his early relationship with Signe, but I always felt like I didn’t quite understand what was going on. He was a source of spiritual strength for his friends in the first book, but in this one he seemed more lost. I’m looking forward to his story being featured in the next book. Overall, this book provides the author’s trademark adventure, romance, and inspiration with complex characters that you can’t help but root for.
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
Aria and Jake’s story is filled with danger and excitement that takes place from Minnesota to the Florida Keys and back. The characters they meet along the way help them to discover the truth of who they are as they learn to reject the lies they believed for far too long. You don’t want to miss this second book in the Global Search and Rescue series. The Heart of Hero is worth staying up late to finish!
The Heart of a Hero was a wild ride from the beginning! I enjoyed getting to know both main characters, Jake and Aria, as well as learning more about Ham and his family. (I’m dying to read his book!) There’s no shortage of action, suspense, and drama, not to mention romantic tension. I have to admit I grew frustrated with the Characters when they would go off on a romantic tangent or tiff in the middle of a life threatening situation. Just didn’t always seem very realistic to me. Warren’s writing style is as engaging as ever, and that combined with the nail biting suspense keeps you reading late into the night! (At least, it did me.) Just when I thought things were going well and our characters were going to be all right, something else happens and I’m on the edge of my seat again! If there’s one thing Warren knows how to do well, it’s suspense. I also loved the cast of supporting characters with their individual storylines that tugged at your heart but didn’t distract from the main story.
All in all, if you’re looking for a romantic and suspenseful wild ride, definitely check out this series!
FTC disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book for promotional purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Susan May Warren give her raders a heart stopping thriller that has us on the edge of our seats the entire book, and The Heart of a Hero is one of the same! Former Navy Seal Jack Silver will do whatever it takes to rescue people, especially those he loves. I enjoyed getting to know Jack and the way his character develops throughout the story. As for Aria, with her medical condition I’m not sure I would be as brave to do the daredevil stuff she did. I was afraid for her a few times.
Jack and Aria take readers on a journey that you won’t forget for a long time. The dangers, the fears, the suspense and the heart wrenching fast pace action drawn issues in this series, with faith and the Christian life in the lives of her characters is so Susan May Warren! I love her.books, and this one is highly recommended!
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
When I start a Susan May Warren book, I know I am going to be reading an excellently written story. It will be full of fictional action, drama, adventure, some mystery and sometimes real but clean romance. From past books of hers I have discovered real life revelations of the true meaning of love, faith and God’s grace. What I found threaded through the pages of Heart of A Hero was life altering truth for me in the message of God’s sovereignty, freeing love and saving grace delivered with God’s unerring timing. I recommend you read this book! It may be just the right book at just the right time with just the right story you need too.
Wowza! What an awesome thrill ride! Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors and I always eagerly anticipate her next release! The Heart of a Hero lived up to all my expectations!
I loved this book! Aria was a fabulous heroine, I loved her determination and her heart for others, I also found myself relating to her quite a bit, our personalities are similar!
I don’t think I’ve met one of Susie May’s heroes that I haven’t loved, and in Jake I found a new book boyfriend to add to my collection, I love his steadfastness, his protectiveness, his gentleness, and that he made me laugh with his corny jokes!
I’m always in awe of this author’s magnificent ability to write in such a way as to paint a vivid picture of the surroundings so I can see it my mind without slowing down the action in the slightest! And this book was no exception, I could hear the howling wind, and see the pouring rain and storm surge as though I was living through it right alongside the characters!
Also, I just have to say that I have loved Ham since he first appeared in Wait for Me, and I was so excited when I first found out that this series follows members of his team, and I was doubly excited that he is actually a POV character in this book, it was great to get inside his head and I cannot wait to read his book, The Price of Valor when it releases later this year!
The Heart of a Hero is an absolute must read, and I most highly recommend it!
I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher. Which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own!
You don’t want to miss this! Book two of author Susan May Warren’s newest series, The Heart of a Hero, will grab your attention from beginning to end. I daresay you will lose sleep, staying up extra late to read this unputdownable book!
As part of of his stint as a Navy Seal, and sniper, Jake Silver has spent years rescuing others in very harrowing and dangerous situations. Newly retired Jake joins Jones Inc as part of a rescue team; he hasn’t veered too far from rescuing others who find themselves in dire straits.
Aria Sinclair, a highly specialized surgeon, can’t stop thinking about Jake Silver. He rescued her from Denali just in the nick of time, but it’s her heart that cannot forget the man she almost let in. She wants nothing but to forget him and move on with her life of saving desperately ill young children; except it seems forgetting Jake is next to impossible.
When Aria heads to Florida for a medical conference, she is unaware that the hurricane predicted to miss the coast, is going to turn unexpectedly inland, bringing the Cat 4 storm directly her way. Once again, Jake Silver appears to rescue Aria but this time is different. This time there is seemingly no way out, and both Aria and Jake just might die together.
