I so enjoyed this third book in the Prayer Jar series. Lenore and Jesse were great characters. You will definitely want to read the first two books in this series because you will find out more about many other characters that were in books one and two. This series made me laugh and cry. I love reading books about the Amish. There are a few twists and turns in the book that make it very interesting. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
The Healing Jar, like the Prayer Jar and The Forgiving Jar before it was a fun book with a satisfying ending. This series by Wanda Brunstetter follows the lives of three young Amish women who find the jars, tucked away by an unknown (until the last book) someone. The prayers, scriptures, and notes in the jars help the women as they go through various trials and decisions in their lives. The stories are full of great characters going through diverse situations, and insights into the Amish way of life. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. All thoughts and opinions are mine alone.
The Healing Jar is third in The Prayer Jar series and the absolute best; I very much enjoyed it! If you haven’t read the first two, each can be read as standalones but are better read in order. We see the family and friends we met in the first two novels and meet or get to better know others. It is like visiting and catching up with old friends, so well are the characters demonstrated by realistic conversations and actions. There is mystery, romance, and challenges of daily life for two of Willis and Mary Ruth Lapp’s granddaughters and Michelle who is like a granddaughter.
Grandpa Willis had a stroke several weeks ago. Granddaughter Lenore is living with them to help Grandma as Willis needs additional care. Lenore is a teacher, and her next term will be at an Amish school near her grandparents. In her late 20’s, Lenore still wants to fall in love, get married, and have her own children.
Michelle and Lenore’s cousin Sara both lived with the older Lapps in the past; Lenore now loves the time she has with them. One day in the barn, she found a jar full of pieces of paper. Curious, she looks inside. One has a scripture and another, a prayer. Michelle, who is visiting, said she and Sara had found that jar and one in the cellar when they lived there. They don’t know who wrote the notes. Each of the girls had found what they needed to go forward and to grow their faith in the Lord.
Michelle had once been recovering from abusive parents and a string of abusive men. She became Amish, is now married, and just moved away so her husband could start a new career. She is pregnant and frightened of being the kind of mother hers had been.
Sara’s mother was Mary Ruth and Willis’ daughter. She ran away and changed her name when she was 18. Sara learned of her grandparents when her mother passed away, leaving a letter to her in Mom’s Bible. She does not know who her biological father is and wants to fill in that empty place.
At a Sunday service, Mary Ruth meets a young man holding an adorable six-month-old girl. A widower, Jesse’s wife died giving birth to little Cindy. Family members think he should marry again, but Jesse’s heart only has room for his late wife. After Lenore runs into Jesse at a restaurant and adeptly soothes a fretting Cindy, he asks her to watch the baby when he works until school starts. His elderly Aunt Vera currently cares for Cindy. By the time Lorene returns to school, he hopes to find a teen who can babysit and do chores in his home. Not only does Lenore fall in love with little Cindy, she begins to have feelings for Jesse. He considers her as a wife only to care for his daughter and home. When he proposed to her, she had no idea that it would only be a marriage of convenience until he confessed one month before the big day.
It is hard to imagine how this family endures all that occurs this year without their faith in God, active prayer life, and love of family and community. Several face what seem like insurmountable challenges for which they don’t have the resources to endure. This is the very best, my favorite of the series, with beautiful examples of faith and a very satisfactory conclusion. I highly recommend this to fans of this gifted author, and those who appreciate well-written Amish fiction in which one can learn as well as relax with a riveting read.

The Healing Jar is the third installment in The Prayer Jar series. You do need to read the books in order for the complete story. In this final book in the series, we get to know Lenore. Lenore is the local schoolteacher who dreams of having a happy marriage and a houseful of children. Unfortunately, the right man has not come along for Lenore. After Willis Lapp suffers a debilitating stroke, Lenore’s faith has weakened. She does not understand why bad things happen to good people like her grandparent’s. Jesse Smucker’s wife died giving birth to their daughter, Cindy. He left Kentucky to start anew away from the memories, but it is hard being a single parent. Jesse wants a marriage of convenience since he still loves his deceased wife, and he begins to court Lenore without telling her this little tidbit. I thought The Healing Jar was well-written with a gentle pace. It was lovely to revisit the Lapp family and catch up with them. Mary Ruth is a positive woman with strong faith which aids in her times of adversity. Michelle is shocked when Ezekiel wishes to move to New York. She wants her husband to find a job he loves, but Michelle does not want to be away from her family and friends. It is been a year and half since they married, and Michelle has yet to get pregnant which worries her. Sara and Brad are happily married, but Sara still wonders about the identity of her biological father. The Healing Jar is an emotional novel and you need to have a box of tissues nearby for some poignant scenes. I like the prayer jars and how each of our main characters find slips of paper that speak to them. There are scripture passages, prayers, and inspirational quotes inside the jar. Our characters pray for guidance and assistance. I admire their deep faith and how they can pray in front of others. They are good Christians and they live by example which is hard to do in this day and age. I did find some items repeated too often. An example is Jesse’s love for his wife, Esther and Michelle’s desire for children. There are discussion questions at the end of the book along with a recipe for Lenore’s Pineapple Philly Pie. The Healing Jar is a satisfying conclusion to this uplifting series.
The Healing Jar, written by Wanda Brunstetter is the third installment of The Prayer Jars book series. We continue forward with Lenore Lapp who has moved in with her grandparents to help with her grandfather. Lenore has accepted the fact that she will never marry and feels her lot in life is caring for elders. She also cares for Jesse Smuckers daughter and falls in love with Jesse, even though he does not feel the same. Lenore soon finds and old jar with uplifting notes inside to help her find her path. You can read this book as a stand alone, but I recommend reading the series, as it will bring closure and answers for the characters and the reader. I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
Lenore Lapp lives a busy life teaching at the local Amish School and living with her aging grandparents helping them keep house and running errands for them. Love seems to have passed her by until Handsome widower Jesse Smucker and his young daughter move to her community.
Michelle and her husband Ezekiel decide to buy a bee keeping supply business in New York. Michelle would rather stay near the people she has come to love and know as family but feels she should support her husband in his decision to move. She dreads the move as the day of departure draws near.
Sara is happily married to Pastor Brad and busy running her flower shop . However she is still driven to find out who her biological father is.
Willis Lapp has suffered a debilitating stroke which has put him in a wheelchair and robbed him of his mobility and independence. Day after day he wrestles with depression as he tries to adjust to his new lifestyle.
Mary Ruth wonders how she will ever manage to take care of Willis once Lenore starts back to teaching school in the fall. She tries to stay cheerful and positive but oh how she misses the way things were before Willis’ stroke.
Will things come together for everyone for the best?
The Healing Jar bring this series to a conclusion. I shall greatly miss my friends that have made this series so enjoyable, but the author Wanda Brunstetter has promised fans that some of the characters from The Prayer Jar Series will make it to a new series that she is currently working on. I loved that all three books were warm hearted and true to life. It includes romance and marriage but as in real life there are also trials and tribulations and heart breaking situations.
I recommend The Healing Jar to all fans of Wanda Brunstetter and all readers of Amish fiction and Christian Fiction.
I was given a copy of this book from the author and the publisher. I was not asked to give a favorable review. All opinions shared here are my own.
loved it, recommend the whole prayer jar series
I have enjoyed reading Wanda Brunstetter’s books for many years. I really enjoyed reading this book.
This book centers mostly around Lenore Lapp. Lenore is a twenty something Amish woman. She is a schoolteacher that has given up hope of finding love. She lives with her Grandparents.
Lenore soon meets Jesse Smucker and his baby daughter Cindy. Jesse lost his wife and has recently moved to the area to find a new start. They strike up a friendship and Leonore comes to care for Jesse and Cindy.
The book follows the ups and downs in Lenore’s life. I really enjoyed the interaction between characters and the story line was very good.
Third book of Jar serie.
Lenore, an unmarried and young woman, lives with her granparents to help her ill granpa.
In august she’ll teach at the local school in Strasburg.
The reader’ll read about Lenore and the mistery of the jars, full of written papers.
Nice book, lovely story, for which I cried several times during the reading, God centered, inspring, love it.
I’m never disappointed from books of this author!
The author tells us: “Our mission is to inspire the world with the life-changing message of the Bible.”
The Healing Jar is the third book in the Prayer Jar Series by Wanda Brunstetter and was probably my favorite of them. There is so much love and sorrow in Lenore Lapp’s life, with the declining health of her grandfather and the young widower, who moves to her town with his little daughter. There is lots of interaction with other family members, also, so there is much going on in her life.
While working in her grandmother’s garden, she digs up another old jar filled notes of inspiration and prayers. What will this jar reveal about her past and will she ever find true love with the young widower? You will not want to miss the exciting conclusion to this series.
While I was given a copy of this book by the author, the opinions expressed are completely my own.
Great Amish people & beliefs.
This the third and last book to The Prayer Jar Series. I really enjoyed reading this series of books. I laughed and cried all through it.
The book starts out with Brad and Sara getting married. Ezekiel and Michelle have been married for a while. Michelle is wanting to have a baby. And, Lenore, she wonders if she will ever get married.
Lenore has moved in with grandparents, Willis and Mary Ruth Lapp. Grandpa Willis has had a heart attack. He can’t do any farm work anymore. Lenore helps to take care of him and do some chore around the farm when she isn’t teaching school.
Ezekiel wants to move to New York to start a new job. he works in his family’s
greenhouse. He hates it and always has. He wants to do something different. Michelle doesn’t want to leave the people she’s come to know or the security she has.
Brad and Sara are starting a Bible study for new believers. She is still looking for her birth father but is about ready to give up. The first night of the Bible study a gentleman comes and talks about running around with a group of Amish teens. Sara perks up when she hears the name Rhoda because that was her mother’s name. She wanted to ask him more questions but it wasn’t the right time or place.
Grandpa Willis seems to be getting better. His speech is getting better and he can walk by himself with the help of a cane. Grandma Mary Ruth finds him on the floor one day. The doctors tried everything but couldn’t save him. There were so many changes when he passed away.
Does Sara find her father or does she give up looking? What do Lenore finds another jar buried in the dirt? What does she do with what she found in itg? Does Michelle have a baby? Does she and Ezekiel move to New York? What Lenore? Does she marry Jesse in name only? If, you want to know the answers to these questions and many others you have to read The Healing Jar by Wanda Brunstetter.
Healing Verses
This is the third and final book of the series. I enjoyed reading all three books but I really loved The Healing Jar book the most. Each book in the series focuses on one character with all the same characters and new ones throughout all three books. The series should be read in order so to keep up with what is going on with all the characters. After Lenore Lapp’s grandfather suffered a stroke, she moves in to help her grandmother take care of her grandfather. Jesse Smucker is a widower with a baby daughter who moved from another community after the death of his wife. Lenore falls in love with Jesse and accepts his proposal of marriage, but then Jesse backs out because for him it would be a marriage of convenience. A mother for his baby girl. Just like Michelle and Sara, Lenore discovered a prayer jar with Bible verses in it and wonders who put them there. Finally in the third book, we find out who was behind the prayers jars and hiding them. So who is the person who hid the prayer jars, did Jesse change his mind about marrying Lenore and will she accept again? Read the book and find out. Read the whole series – The Hope Jar, The Forgiving Jar and The Healing Jar. Wanda E. Brunstetter is an excellent author and one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book and many of the author’s other books.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
I won a copy of this book from Goodreads giveaways, I was not required to give a favorable review. This is a beautiful story of family and how they go through many changes of their lives. This is the third book in the series, and even if you haven’t read the other two there is enough written with the story to understand the relationships of the characters in the story. This time is based more on Lenore’s life while living with her grandparents and helping her grandmother take care of her grandfather after his stroke. She meets a new young widow father in their district who is raising his little girl after her mother passed away. They become friends and then Lenore and her grandmother help take care of the little girl while her dad Jesse works. Sara & Brad are settling down as a married couple with her running her flower shop and his duties as a minister. And Melissa and her husband Ezekiel and their decisions as a married couple. Thank you for this wonderful story and hope to read more about this wonderful family and extended family.
MMMMmmmmm…..
I was so excited to read this book! I have read the other books in the series and couldn’t wait to find out the ending. It definitely did not disappoint 🙂 I am happy that Lenore got her own story and that she exhibited strong character and overcame some overwhelming hardships. I loved Wanda’s use of the prayer jars to bring a family together and help heal some past hurts. It is truly a unique idea. After reading the first book in the series I started putting prayers or verses in a jar on my bedside table every night. I hope many people read this book and are heartily affected by the message it presents.
I volunteered to read this book from Barbour Publishing Group in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
I love Amish books and Wanda E Brunstetter and this book did not disappoint me! I loved all of the characters in this book. I love the settings and the things that each and every one of the characters did. Wanda Brunstetter’s books are just fun and wholesome books, and I just wish they weren’t over when I finish reading them.
If you like Amish books, be sure to pick up the first book in The Prayer Jar series and start reading!
The Healing Jar by Wanda Brunstetter is the third and final book in The Prayer Jars series, and I will say I enjoyed it just as much as the first two!
Wanda Brunstetter always has a way of bringing you into the lives of her characters, and this book and series has been no exception. This story of faith and family had me turning page after page wanting to finish the book, yet hating to see it and the series end.
As this is the third book in the series, I would recommend reading the first two books in this series prior to reading this book to fully understand this book.
I received a copy of this book from the author and Barbour Publishing, but was not required to give a positive review. This is my honest opinion of this book.
WOW! I have called Wanda Brunstetter a master storyteller before, but this one truly makes her the queen!! As I finished the book (with tears of happiness), I was amazed at how the characters’ lives were interwoven with one another’s, and how the things that had happened all throughout the 3-book series were brought together and worked out for good (just like Romans 8:28 promises!) As hard as it would be to choose, I believe that The Healing Jar would be my favorite in the series. I was captivated all the way until the very last page! I am inspired to begin my own prayer jar. Although this book is mainly focused on Lenore, we still see the other main characters from the series and get to learn about their lives. Seeing how they all – Michelle, Ezekiel, Sara, and Brad, Mary Ruth and Willis, Lenore, Jesse, and Cindy, and Hershel – navigate the good times, the bad times, and everything in between, reminds me of the promise that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and binds up each and every one of our wounds. This series is perfect for anyone looking for encouragement and peace! This book was provided to me by Barbour Publishing. I was not required to leave a positive (or any) review. Opinions and ideas expressed in this review are my own.
Lenore is a special young woman. She has such a sweet spirit around her and her devotion to her grandparents is undeniable. She has let time slip away from her and realizes that she is in her late twenties with no husband in sight. I think she really loved taking care of others and felt it was her calling.
The introduction of Jesse and his sweet baby in the story changes everything in Lenore’s life. She finds herself babysitting for Jesse during the summer and falls heads over heels in love with the young child. Jesse is still trying to cope with the death of his wife and raise their child on his own. It was nice to read how Jesse and Lenore became friends and started to develop feelings for each other.
Things don’t quite go as planned when Lenore’s heart is broken. I liked this part of the story because it pulls in other characters from the previous books into this story. Once again a prayer jar is found and just the right words are read when needed the most. I loved how the words just filled Lenore with peace and hope. The story deals with death, trust, loneliness, misunderstandings and most of all faith.
I am sad to see the series end but have enjoyed the series very much. The characters have become like family to me and I have decided that I want to make a prayer jar for myself. The author has encouraged me to find scriptures that speak to me and write them down. My hope is that someday my prayer jar will bless someone.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
I enjoyed this book, the conclusion to the series. I have read all of them, and would definitely recommend them. The whole series was interesting and kept me wondering what was gonna happen in the end. The main characters from the previous books are included in this book. It can be read as a stand alone but makes alot more sense when read as part of a series.
There were some parts of the book that made me sad, but the author did a great job wrapping up the series. Some of my favorite characters from this series are Brad, Michelle, Sarah and Grandma. I can’t say Lenore was a favorite but I did enjoy her story. I also really enjoyed the jars. In each book there are old jars that have verses or thoughts in them. When found these pieces of paper help each person who discovers and reads them. Such a great idea.
The main thing I didn’t like about these books was the way the characters dialogued. Something about it just didn’t jive with me. I can’t really put my finger on what it was, but it may have been just style of writing. It’s still worth the read!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher – Barbour Publishing. I was not asked or required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
