s was my intro book for this author and I am IN LOVE!! I started reading and could not stop. Melanie Dickerson took the tale of Sleeping Beauty, put her own twist on it, put some Jesus in it, and made a masterpiece! I have already put the next 5 books in the series on hold!!
This book took me just a tad over 24 hours to read (and to a homeschooling mom of 5 boys from 5-14, that is a miracle in itself!! ). While reading it, I talked my sister-in-law into reading it, and now even my husband has started reading it!!
Amazing piece of work and I can’t wait to read the others!
A fairly realistic medieval setting is established by the author. The happy ending is somewhat contrived. I did enjoy it.
Loved
This is the book that made me fall in love with Melanie Dickerson! Love this series!
I really loved this book!! “The Memory House” is the one I would choose as my favorite of all the books I’ve read in the last 6 months. Many books tell stories from more than one persons perspective, but the way Rachel Hauck wove THIS story back and forth, past and present and then tied it all together in the end really spoke to me. As much as I needed the resolution that the end of the story brought, I was sorry to have finished it.
Thank you, Rachel, for a beautiful story and a wonderful book!
I loved this book because it is a twisted tale of sleeping beauty. It is about this lovely young maiden named Rose and a charmingly handsome lord named Hamlin. Rose wants to be a healer but she is grossed out at the sight or smell of blood. Plus she writes stories. One day comes along when Rose has to take care of a wound (Lord Hamlin’s injured) when her mistress is away. Lord Hamlin’s breath is taken away while he sees Rose taking care of him. They fall in love along the way. Melanie Dickerson’s books are always fairy tales that have either a dramatic or a tragic twist in them. She goes in the past and makes you fall in love with her detailed characters.
The Healer’s Apprentice is a wonderful, romantic book about finding true love and finding your true self after heartbreak and bad moments. This is definitely a must read, in fact the whole series could be an all time favorite. This is Melanie Dickerson at her best. If you love fairy tale retellings with romance, this is the book for you!
As a lover of fairytales, I really enjoyed this story based around the tale of Sleeping Beauty. That said, it was so brilliantly written, I would have enjoyed it even if I didn’t know/like the fairytale to start with.
Even knowing the story, there were twists and turns I never saw coming and I loved how real it all felt – the vibrant descriptions of the medieval town, the loyalty and honour of the two main characters and the way they handled the situations and challenges thrown at them. A beautiful story of love, faith, honour and what it means to trust an unknown future to a known God.
I found this and the other books in the series very delightful. Kind of like the movie Ever After, it could be their real story of the fairytales and how they turned into Legends.
Great book!
I purchase two more of the author’s books
I love reworked fairy tales. The fact that Melanie Dickerson takes great care to recreate the medieval world her stories are set in, makes them even more enjoyable. I recently purchased her Fairy Tale Romance Collection and can’t wait to read the rest of the books.
This was a really original retelling of sleeping beauty! If you like christian romance this is the book for you! I would highly recommend it.
