Ms. Hamilton writes sweet and clean historical Regency romance. The storyline for this novel is unique because the main character Moses Hayward, the Duke of Barley is trapped in a loveless marriage to a sickly wife and refuses to break his vows yet he finds himself drawn to Caroline Robins his children’s governess who is hiding several huge secrets. Caroline is also drawn to the Duke but refuses to act on her feelings and vows to never be a mistress. The storyline is well written and filled with sexual tension, romantic moments and of cause intrigue and danger.
The main characters have depth and are well defined. Moses and Caroline have so much in common that they make a perfect couple. It is easy to see how they fall in love with each other in a seemly impossible situation. They both are intelligent, loving, strong willed, extremely protective and principled. I could relate to their situation and also to Moses wife who was just as trapped as Moses thanks to her villainous father’s manipulations. There are multiple villains causing major heartaches and a wonderful unexpected twist and surprise at the end. It brought the story to a satisfactory conclusion. Hannah likes to add extended epilogues to her novels and this one makes the novel a delightful and worthwhile read. I make it a point not to discuss a plot in detail because I feel writing and selling books is a writer’s livelihood. I highly recommend this novel and hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from the author. It is my pleasure to give my honest opinion about this book.
As far as I’m concerned, Hanna Hamilton is a top “go-to” author gif Regency and Victorian romances. She’s yet to produce a story I’ve not truly enjoyed even though she’s extraordinarily prolific at turning out these tales. That’s certainly the case with Dahlia and Roger’s story in The Hazardous Gamble of the Alluring Duchess. This is a perfectly plotted and told clean Regency romance novel that was s total pleasure to read. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
