The Haven of Rest
The book starts out where Adah is trying to get attention. She is the daughter of the king of Israel but she was pretending to be a beggar.
The sisters decide to put on a music show to get attention from the king. So then Adah spends a lot of time writing a song. The songs she writes are very beautiful. She plays a lap harp which I haven’t heard of.
A very interesting story. I loved that the author had a note at the end telling about the writing of the book. Comparing to what was fiction and what came from the Bible.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
The book is very short at less than one hundred pages, but the author weaves a wonderful story within those pages. The author lets us know that she took certain liberties in the story that may not be included in the bible, but I found her story to blend so eloquently. King David has always been fascinating to me and it was nice to see another take of his life by including daughters.
Adah has desired to have more attention from her father , but can’t find a way to get it. Most of us probably can relate to Adah as we struggled to get our parents attention as we grew up. We desire their approval and want to please them at all times. I love the way Adah finds a way to get her father’s attention while including her sisters in the idea.
The story was a great lesson in waiting on God. Adah is quite upset by a decision made by her father so she vows to be silent til she hears from God. What I gleamed from this story was how we question God about a direction our life is taking. We think we know the best way to go, and stumble when we doubt God. Adah continues to pray and seek God. Have you ever moved out ahead without the guidance of God? I know that I have and learned a hard lesson by not following Him.
The author does a great job demonstrating how God’s plan is perfect and at some point we understand why he directed us to do something we were unsure of. Adah finds herself struggling to go outside her comfort zone and realizes that God’s plan was to place her in a land where she could share His word.

Author Faith Blum has written a Biblical fiction with Haven of Rest. It tells the story of Adah, King David’s daughter who is desperately seeking attention from her regal father or Abba. She comes up with schemes and plans to accomplish that. What happens is she finds a God, Adonai and develops a deep relationship with Him.
This is a short book or novella. It has an interesting view of King David’s personal family and family life. The characters were realistic and my heart went out to the daughters. They really missed their father. It is hard to imagine having so many siblings, and especially being treated differently if you were a daughter instead of a son.
Author Blum has a nice writing style. While her story is biblically based she has taken several writing liberties with her story. That happens a lot with Biblical fiction it seems. I am not a fan of changing the Bible stories because people that aren’t familiar with the true scriptural account will be misguided.
Haven of Rest is Book #4 in the author’s Tales of the East Series. I have not read the other books and had no trouble reading this as a stand-alone. It is a short book and rather quick read.
I would recommend it to fans of Biblical fictions. It is an interesting view on what might have been. From me it received a 3 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but this is my honest opinion.
