After tragedy strikes, Callie Sinclair is left with a gift she never wanted—the ability to communicate with ghosts. But when a desperate widow begs for her help, she reluctantly agrees to investigate the strange occurrences at Hillwood Farm. She quickly realizes she’s dealing with a dangerous presence beyond anything she’s ever experienced, and something else becomes equally clear—the only other … other living person in the house, Mrs. Turner’s handsome grandson, thinks she’s a scam artist. While she’d prefer to just ignore him, her heart beats a little faster every time he’s nearby.
Luke Turner doesn’t believe in spirits. He’s moved back to restore the family farm, but living on the property serves a dual purpose—he can watch out for his grandmother. He’s not happy about the sudden appearance of a self-described psychic, or his inexplicable attraction to her. His initial suspicions crumble as evidence points to an actual haunting, but he’s still determined not to fall for Callie—the past has taught him it’s best to avoid relationships.
As Callie is drawn deeper into the mystery, she becomes the target of a vengeful spirit, and Luke can no longer fight his feelings for her. Unable to resist their desire, passion ignites…even as the paranormal activity escalates to a final deadly confrontation.

This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I was hooked from page one until the end. Ms. Knight does a wonderful job with characters and setting and threading the mystery throughout the story. A page-turner to be sure. Ms. Knight is definitely on my TBR list. Highly recommended.
Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “The Haunting of Hillwood Farm” by Kathryn Knight, Wicked Whale, 1/19
Kathyrn Knight, author of “The Haunting of Hillwood Farm has written an intense, captivating and suspenseful story. The Genres for this story are Paranormal, Romance, Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense and Fiction, The timeline for this unusual story is set in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The author describes the characters as complex, complicated, and quirky.
There are twists and turns. This spooky thriller reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer in “What Lies Beneath?” Mrs.Turner is a recent widow that has just buried her husband and is noticing strange things happening at Hillwood Farm, the old house she lives with her adult grandson Luke Turner. After more unusual activity, Mrs. Turner turns to Callie Sinclair for help.
Callie Sinclair is left with a gift of communicating with ghosts, after a tragedy. When she goes to the Turner home, she gets the feeling something is strange. Luke doesn’t believe in ghosts at all and at first questions Callie’s motives. He does become attracted to Callie.
When Callie leaves Hillwood Farm, and heads to her home, stronger and stranger things are occurring. Callie realizes that she is in grave danger unless this situation can be resolved. I would highly recommend this edgy and intense chilling thriller for readers who enjoy paranormal reading.
Callie has a gift of speaking with ghosts, a gift which changed her life forever. When an elderly widow begs for her help, she agrees. From the moment Callie sets foot on Hillwood Farm, she senses danger. A vindictive spirit is terrorizing both Mrs. Turner and her drop-dead gorgeous grandson, Luke. But Callie’s disrupting the ghost’s plans and instead turns its vengeance on her. Accidents turn Callie’s calm demeanor to icy fear. Will she survive long enough to help rid Hillwood Farm of this ghost and more importantly, will Callie and Luke let down their walls and surrender to love?
I can honestly confess this book scared me to death. Once the haunting began, I clung to my tablet and couldn’t look away. The paranormal descriptions were so realistic and life-like, my significant other had to keep telling me to breathe. Think Samara from The Ring and you’ll get a sense of what I’m talking about. By the time I finished, I could only read it in the daylight and with someone else present.
Callie and Luke’s romance is slow-burning which I loved. It also added depth and a sweetness to the otherwise tense-filled story. Sure, they had issues to work through but every couple deals with conflict.
If you’re looking for a spooky romantic suspense, you’ll love The Haunting of Hillwood Farm. Kathryn Knight has mastered the art of paranormal romantic suspense and it’s a must-read!
Favorite Character/Quote: Callie. Her emotional trials when dealing with ghosts and all things paranormal called out to me. She’s gone through so much and by the end of the book, I wanted her to just be able to get a good night’s sleep.
My Rating: 5+ stars
Do Not read this at night. It is so suspenseful, I scared myself. It is also so intense, I did not sleep until I heard “the end”. Callie has a gift and wants to help where she can. But this gift can be a curse too. She only goes to the farm to help figure out the hauntings, not to get mixed up in them. Like is not a firm believer in ghosts, but Callie is able to open his eyes to the possibility. I loved the interaction between Callie and Luke. The twists, and haunts were shocking. I truly did not see the twist coming. This is a sweet romance, underneath the suspenseful hauntings. Very well written, this book is a must read.
Kristin James narrates this story. She has a great voice to listen to. Her male characters were easy distinguishale from the female characters. Ms. James ghostly voice is more haunting than the story. The narration truly enhanced the suspense and experience of the story.
The Haunting of Hillwood Farm is my first introduction to Kathryn Knight’s writing. I now want more of her work. I enjoyed this creepy, mysterious, suspenseful and romantic book. I enjoyed the concept of Callie and her talent of speaking to those from beyond the grave. I loved it when she met Luke, the grandson of Alice Turner, whom she is trying to help. Luke does not believe in her abilities, but the chemistry between the two is undeniable. They soon find out the danger they are in.
I give The Haunting of Hillwood Farm four stars. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of this book and enjoyed the performance of the narrator, Kristin James. She did an amazing job bringing this story to life. I can not wait to hear more by her, as well as, reading more books by this author. This one is most definitely worth a read.
I received the audio version of this book from the author. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
The Haunting of Hillwood Farm
By: Kathryn Knight
Narrated by: Kristin James
I am not a huge paranormal fan, but when it comes to ghost stories, I love them!Kathryn Knight can write a story that sucks me in and keeps me listening. This gem starts with Callie. She was in an accident and now has the gift to be able to talk to the dead. But is this really a gift? She is willing to help Alice Turner, recently widowed try and talk to her husband. Strange things are happening at their house, and if she can only talk to him, maybe it will calm down. What she finds out will blow your mind! Luke, Alice’s grandson doesn’t believe in all this paranormal stuff, but that does not stop his attraction to Callie. When things heat up, life at Hillwood Farm gets a little scarier! I love all the characters in this one. Knight gives Callie and Luke a slow burn to their relationship, which fits the story perfectly. But my standout is Alice. I love her. She is a sweet lady and with the things happening around her, I just want to hold her close and keep her safe! What a great grandparent. All in all, the high suspense, the finding the bottom of the mystery and the budding relationship will keep you entertained til the end.
Kristin James knocks this book out of the park. She is a voice I love to listen to, Her voice is smooth, and her distinguishing characters all come to life as she reads. She can go from the 25 year old Callie to the senior citizen Alice flawlessly and keep the story flowing. Her ability to inflect the suspense is perfect and gave a very enjoyable performance of this book.

An absolutely fantastic ghost story. Wonderful characters.
The Haunting of Hillwood Farm by Kathryn Knight is a great Paranormal Romantic Suspense. The story is suspenseful, intriguing, mysterious, scaring, and fast-paced. Both Luke and Callie are great characters. Callie is so strong! I love the ending. I enjoyed my reading, and I totally recommend it! This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Update with the audiobook review:
Kristin James did an amazing job with the narration. She has a great voice, and all characters were easy to distinguish. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook, and I totally recommend it! I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.
Audiobook Review…I have found that when I listen to an audiobook, I listen to more than just the words the narrator is saying. I hear the tones, the emotions, and the feelings that the characters are having. Kirstin James is wonderful. She brought all the characters alive, the ghosts, the haunting, the live characters all became real to me. I could feel their fear, their love, and the wonder at what was happening in the world around them. Kathryn Knight wrote a book that I loved in the eBook form and I was so excited to listen to the story on Audible. Everything about both versions are wonderful.
eBook Review…I am not a ghost story reader yet when Kathryn Knight writes a new book, I don’t hesitate to read it. Callie is not a ghost whisperer. She did not even know that she could communicate with ghosts until she lost her boyfriend and heard him after he was gone. She isn’t in it for the money, but she is willing to try to help Mrs. Turner when a ghost is haunting her house.
This ghost, oh my, was nasty. The ghost caused havoc caused harm and was just mean. I had goosebumps from some of the things that they did to the Turners and Callie. I was unsure of how I would have reacted, ok no, I know that I would have run, screaming and begging for someone to explain why things were shattering, doors were closing, and something was trying to cause me bodily harm.
Luke, Mrs. Turner’s grandson, had the right idea in being doubtful of Callie’s skill and her real reason behind helping his grandmother. I liked that he didn’t just jump into the belief and questioned what was going on. I also liked how he tried to fight his attraction to Callie. He did not just jump at being with her, he took the time to get to know her, understand what was going on with her, and he respected her fear of relationships.
Pick up The Haunting of Hillwood Farm. It is a must read. This is a wonderful ghost story that is quick, easy, and fun to read.
There seems to be a haunting at the Hillwood farm, but maybe there are two hauntings? No one knows why there a mean one or violent ghost? Alice is be attacked but also be helped by her husband Henry? It gets so bad that Callie is called in to help?
Luke seem to no want to believe that there are ghosts? You will be surprised as the event continue to happen when Luke and Callie are together and when they are apart? One is trying to get warn and one is about danger?
We get everything the author wants in a story. We get hauntings and the paranormal effect and along with it we get a romance that blooms. Whether this is the author intent or not, does not matter as it seem to just happen.
The plot is done well. I loved it. It one that got my attention as I was reading. I wanted to know who the ghosts were. Especially the one that was haunting the Turners and Callie? This is answered at the end. The reason for two ghost and who was who is revealed. One was protecting and the was hurtful? We find out why it happen as well. If you are into hauntings or ghosts or even paranormal aspect in the book this one is good.
I got this audio book thru an ARC, Advanced Review Copy with an honest review given freely,
This audiobook was well done and the narration was great. I thought the story was excellent and kept me glued until the end.
A very good ghost story with a malevolent spirit out to harm, a psychic, Callie and the woman she tries to help. When the grandson Luke shows up at first he is sceptical but when things happen to him he jumps right into help and into Callie’s heart. But getting rid of the spirit is not easy and the baggage they carry in their minds and hearts ate not easy on a budding relationship. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary
I was a little surprised at just how malicious the ghosts were. At some points I thought it was going to go into the horror direction, but it wasn’t too bad. Overall I found it to be a really interesting and entertaining listen.
Kristin James did really well with the narration.
I would have liked to give both the story and the narration 4.5 stars. This was my first Kathryn Knight novel as well as my first Kristin James narration, and I’m interested in listening to more from each of them.
This was slow to start for me however once it got started I really enjoyed it. The ghost story was intriguing and fun. The slow burn romance was the cherry on top. I liked the characters, Alice being a personal favorite. Once I realized who the ghost was the story became exciting and tragic. Fun read with a great ending.
This is a brilliant book! It reads so believably even when the unbelievable is happening. I fell in love with the characters as they quickly dragged me into their story.
Highly recommended!
Wow, what an original ghost story. A good ghost, and a bad ghost, but in the end, the terrifying ghost you just wanted to get rid of, you almost feel sorry for. In the middle is the sad story of lifelong love separated by death, and the sweetness of new love blooming. Beautifully written and well presented. I loved this. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Oh My Goodness!!! This audio book, The Haunting of Hillwood Farm
by Kathryn Knight, was so good and a little scary with a hint of romance to it!! Callie was able to communicate with the dead after a tragic accident. It was still new to her and it scared her at times. Alice Turner owned Hillwood Farm and her husband recently passed away and she wanted Callie to see if her husband was in the house because there had recently been strange things happening of the ghostly kind. Luke Turner was Alice’s grandson and was very skeptical of ghosts and thought Callie was a fraud. But soon he started noticing strange events. Listening to this book had me on edge because of the ghostly events and because they seemed to be targeting Callie. Like trying to harm her. Luke, Callie and Alice all try to figure out who is trying to make contact. I received an ARC of this audio book in exchange for an honest opinion. It was a FANTASTIC book!!! I was scared listening to it. But I really liked how everything got resolved. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author. Fantastic read!!
If you like a good romantic ghost story this would be the stop. It goes quickly and keeps you interested but gives you a good story. The characters are all the good part with coming away really liking the grandmother. Will sure and try another from this author.
Callie has the gift of communicating with ghosts though it’s not something she advertises. But when Alice Turner calls her out to their farm, she agrees. The things that are moving on their own are not the only suspicious things, but Alice isn’t ready to tell her grandson Luke about them just yet, he’s too much of a skeptic, and he’s not going to be happy that Callie is poking around the farm. But when things start to get worse, they realize that it’s not just Alice’s deceased husband who is responsible, so they must tell Luke the truth, and figure out what is going on before someone gets seriously hurt.
This story had a mix of a lot of elements, the haunting, the budding romance between Luke and Callie, and the mystery element of what is at play here. This was a relatively short, easy read that’s well-written with an engaging storyline. I liked the mystery element of not knowing who is messing with their lives, and I like the fact that the haunting didn’t stick to just the farm. I liked Callie’s honesty, the fact that she wasn’t in this for the money, and that she was outspoken when it came to dealing with Luke. Overall, a fun and enjoyable read.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was blown away! I read it one sitting and then turned around and listened to the audiobook. Both were excellent and attention grabbing.
A spectacular story with just the right amount of ghost, romance and mystery, it started off with a bang and kept that pacing the entire story.
Callie is a young woman who, after a tragic accident, now has the ability to speak to ghosts. She is contracted by the recent widow of Hillwood Farm to help speak to her late husband. Add in a skeptical grandson and jilted lover and you have a great ghost story.
