A ghostly and gloriously witty romantic comedy – Some people just won’t take death lying down … moments.
As Hattie tries to convince others – including brother Jack, and best friend Cat – that Gary is back, he finds himself under the care of spirit guide Clarence, and also befriends another young inhabitant of the place called The Present.
Meanwhile, Hattie’s mum Rachel is facing a daunting battle, and Cat’s ex-husband Stewart is determined to prove he deserves a second chance.
Throw in a tentative spot of dating for Hattie, and you have all the ingredients for a book described as ‘brilliant’, ‘hilarious’ and ‘a great feel-good read.’
Praise for Hattie Hastings:
‘There is nothing ordinary with this book. It is a fabulous blend of fun and sadness. One minute I was smiling and the next I had to put it down as I couldn’t see past the tears in my eyes.’
‘Absolutely loved this! Funny down-to-earth characters, great pace and flawless flowing writing style.’
‘The author has created some very strong characters that made it very easy to care what happened to them. It is difficult to write about the topics of death, loss and trust, without either being fluffy or morbid. The author did this and so much more.’

I enjoyed so much reading this story, it´s full of good humour, sad parts also told with a fantastic sense of humour and reality, everything has a positive side to it – even shortcomings. Life is no easy feature but when led with lightness and happiness through a positive view living the daily battle is so much easier! Reading books like this one also made my day much happier although in quarentine!
Thank you Audrey Davies/Hidden Gems for the free copy of “The Haunting of Hattie Hastings”, the above words are – for sure – my honest review.
“The Haunting of Hattie Hastings” by Audrey Davis was a quirky and unusual book, but I enjoyed it. It was sweet, funny, and low on angst despite the subject matter, and all of the characters were likeable and showed evidence of real growth over the course of the story. The writing style and tone reminded me a bit of a Sophie Kinsella novel, and I think this story is likely to appeal to readers of those books.
What I liked most about this book was that main characters Hattie and Gary had such a “real” relationship, and Hattie never tried to romanticize his faults after he was gone. Their conversations seemed just like the ones that take place every day between so many married couples, with Hattie even telling Gary to go away when he was being annoying or if she needed time alone to decompress after a long day. They may not have been a perfect couple, but their love for each other was clear in the way they behaved towards each other, even after Gary was gone.
I also enjoyed the secondary plots involving Hattie’s mother, Rachel, and best friend, Cat. I found their situations to be very realistic and relatable, and it was easy for me to wish for things to work out for each of them in the end.
Overall, I would recommend “The Haunting of Hattie Hastings” and look forward to reading future books by Ms. Davis as well.

A really good story with realistic characters and situations. Unexpectedly a widow, Hattie must deal with her emotions, living her life with just her son and the ghost of her husband. This book made me laugh and tear up. Definitely one to read.

This is a delightful read that is hilarious, entertaining and quite enjoyable. It is not too short but short enough to read through it quickly and the unfortunate thing about that is you have to wait for the next book! Looking forward to #2!

Hattie Hastings suddenly loses her husband and he comes back as a ghost. She tries to convince a few people that he is coming back to visit her. They all think she is crazy until they see him too. They have to figure out how to help him pass on from being in-between worlds.
It was an interesting book with an interesting concept. It had some sweet emotional spots but I got bored here and there and I am not sure why. I think others may like it.

An amusing, lighthearted read, this book made me laugh out loud as Gary refused to take death lying down. There are a number of stories intertwined and at times I found it a bit disconcerted as the plot jumped from one person to another, but after a while it did make sense. The book is generally well-written and very humorous, but with some gentler moments that brought tears to my eyes. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. A heartwarming journey for widowed Hattie Hastings to happiness and love after her husband Gary sudden death in an accident. Gary reappearance as a ghost in Hattie’s life, will put her through some trouble but will also help her and the ones surrounding her, her BFF Cat, their Johnny, her brother Jack and her mother Rachel, to find their way again. A funny, sweet and sometimes san life’s story. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
