Expected more horror with Jeff strand. To many monsters, not descriptive enough.almost like a fairy tale. Not for true horror fans
Excellent fast moving, scary, keep and hold your attention story. As I enjoy Horror I’ll will be checking out this author’s other books.
This is perhaps one of my favorite horror books of all time. Don’t expect any happy endings and be prepared for lots of death and gore. At times the violence seemed a bit over the top and I prayed for some relief, but all in all this is a great story and very entertaining.

This was a disturbing but fun listen. Imagine that monsters a real and not only are they real but you can tour through their natural habitat and gawk at them, that is until they turn on you. This my friends is The Haunted Forest Tour. Gory, hysterical fun, but also a story of survival. I am not sure what is wrong with me but I truly enjoyed this story. The narrator was really great too and the change up with the character voices went really well. Give this a read but hang on because its going to be a long gory bumpy ride!
I’ve read a lot of horror novels but this one is the best. I will always compare all future horror books to this one. The monsters were unique and very creative.
Easy to read.
Good gory fun!
Fun read. Interesting idea.
I definitely recommend this book. James A. Moore and Jeff Strand had really outdone themselves. I don’t want to give anything away, but there was so much blood and gore and twisted villains and creatures that I had so much fun with this book. I loved the proof demon and the twisted and dark forest world that he rules with all of his many creatures that don’t hesitate to cause havoc and chaos wherever they pop up. The book started right away with the craziness of the growing trees that destroyed everything in its path to the beginning of the tram tour where you knew things were going to go really wrong; and I was not disappointed one bit. There were so many fun twists and turns that I had a hard time putting this book down. “The Haunted Forest Tour” is a fantastic read.
I really liked this book. What a concept at first a haunted forest with bizarre creatures, till the real reason slowly emerges. A good read.
I love it.
It was original, twisted, easy to read, and a page turner.
Very good read
Not great, but certainly good. The idea was interesting, and the characters were well-developed. It’s not a true horror story, but the creepiness factor is sufficient.
I didn’t really care for the story line, to much going on all of the time
Jeff Strand’s Wolf Hunt series comprise my favorite werewolf novels of all time, so I was quite excited when I came across The Haunted Forest Tour and was really curious to see where Strand’s crazy mind would lead us. I’m happy to say that not only was I not disappointed, Strand and his co-author, James A. Moore, blew me away.
The premise of the novel is lovingly established in the opening chapter when a homeowner and the local sheriff try to figure out how someone managed to plant a decades old tree in the middle of the homeowner’s porch. It’s a perplexing problem without an apparent solution—at least until more trees start to spontaneously sprout all around them. The image is quite gripping. In seconds, trees are reaching full growth and causing destruction all around them.
The story then picks up several years later when an enterprising American has started a tour service into the haunted forest. All kinds of fantasy creatures from ogres to demons to things that defy categorization exist within the trees. Up to now, the tours have only penetrated the perimeter of the forest, but now, to celebrate Halloween, sixty lucky individuals are going to ride straight through the center of this marvel. Unfortunately, their “luck” is not of the “good” variety.
As all great horror writers do, Strand and Moore take the time to make you like a large cast of characters ranging from a young child to a grandmother, and from tourists, to employees, to scientists. It’s fun to try and guess which ones will die and which will survive, but shortly after the disaster in the middle of the forest begins to unfold, you will start to wonder how anyone can escape this situation.
And this is a huge part of why this book is so brilliant. The tourists and employees treat the Haunted Forest as a bizarre natural wonder, but it is so much more insidious than that. There’s an intriguing mystery to be solved at the heart of the forest and the stakes are much greater than the survival of the few people trapped within it. Strand and Moore play totally fair here—doling out clues and false leads between shocking revelations fast enough to make you resent anything that interrupts your reading.
Finally, the authors pass the most important test of the horror novel—the cause of all the problems is equal to the great buildup they give it. And the solution is simply genius…
I was well pleased with this novel. Everything about it was fun: the story, the humor, the deaths. It had the perfect combination of horror, comedy, and seriousness.
The story takes place in a small, normal town in New Mexico. Normal until a full grown forest pops up and takes over the entire town in one day. A forest that is populated with monsters and ghosts and too many creatures to describe. Flash forward a few years and the forest has been converted into a tourist attraction with tram rides through the center of the forest. A special Halloween tour is about to take place and this ride is going to be more disastrous than anybody realizes.
The mix of characters was very easy to picture in my head. And the vocal performance by Joe Hempel really helped to differentiate each one. The story had a wide selection of characters so it was not obvious as to who would be killed and who wouldn’t. And there were than a few times where I was actively laughing out loud. One more thing that I don’t know if Strand and Moore were doing this on purpose or not, but it seemed to me that they kept stopping chapters semi-abruptly, leaving a character in a near impossible spot. In my mind, I pictured it as either Strand or Moore saying “Ha, let’s see how you write your way out of this one.” as they pass the story to the other. I’m not sure if that was real or not but it felt like it. To me, it made the experience even better.
Wow! This was an action packed blood and gore infested horror romp!
A little backstory:
Come one, come all and take a ride into the haunted forest where you will see amazing creatures the likes of what you have never seen before!
There are trams on tracks that take tourists through a haunted forest with all kinds of oddball creatures and the tourists are hoping to get glimpses of the creatures that are roaming through the forest!
However, with any maiden voyage though comes unexpected problems that are unforeseeable and when one of the trams comes to a stop to view the creatures the last thing expected would be that the tram would lose power, but that is what happens and when the power goes out, so does the chance of escape. When another tram rams into the powerless tram it brings about a horrific crash which that is when things get interesting as now the tourists are considered a prime meal for the creatures out in the forest.
What happened to the tram? What happens to the tourists? Do they escape the clutches of the creatures? What kind of creatures are roaming the haunted forest? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book!
There are quite a few characters within this story which I am not going into detail with each one, but I will say that I really loved most of the characters as they tried to fight their way to survival against the creatures.
There is lots of blood and gore throughout the story which starts practically right away in the first chapter and doesn’t let up till the end of the book!
The story just flows along with the fast paced action but when the trams crash and the tourists are sitting ducks is when the story goes into overdrive. From that point on the story stays in overdrive with constant blood and gore action to the point that I could literally not put the book down as I wanted to stay awake to see what would happen next!
This book was awesome and it is a perfect read for Halloween! Giving this book five “gory” stars!
Highly recommend to all horror fans!
Another totally twisted, perverted, scary and unpredictable work of art from Author Jrff Strand!
I have yet to be disappointed in ANY of his works!
