Magic has been slowly fading from the enchanted forest ever since the greedy humans invaded. The native feathered-folk were kind in sharing their homeland, but peace couldn’t last forever. In a world where he never really belongs, Barne … searches to find his smile through all means necessary. But there’s a dark secret that holds his happiness hostage…
In a world of swords and sorcery, darkness and despair, nothing comes without a price.
About The Tarnished Lands: In the aftermath of the utopian regime that ruled for over a millennium, famine, chaos, murder and deceit reign in lieu of balance. The pendulum now swings in favor of disorder. The fierce strong-arm the weak, cowards lurk in the shadows like rats, and the wicked take everything that’s left over. This is no longer a place for good intentions, this is a place of survival.

I give The Harrowed Half-Breed: A Tarnished Lands Story (Forgotten Woods Book 1) by P.A. Wikoff, 5 stars.
This is the story of Barne, a half-breed who didn’t belong. The story of someone who just wanted to fit in, but couldn’t. Who wanted to be happy, but wasn’t allowed. What lengths will he go to so that he receives love and respect? Will he ever accomplish his goal?
This is a story of superb fantasy — a dark adult version of the fairy tales you loved as a child. The writing is fantastic and draws you in right away. The characters are crazy and different. I cannot say that I have ever read anything like this. In a world of indie authors taking over, this it is getting harder to come across an original story, by this author has done it so well.
This is what seems to me to be a back story of the life of Barne and even some of his mother. It tells exactly who he is and how he came to be who he is today. It has me very excited to read the next book in the series and I highly recommend it to those who loved fairy tales as a kid, but now like them a little darker.
The Harrowed Half-Breed: A Tarnished Lands Story by P.A. Wikoff is the first book in the Forgotten Woods Series. A magical story that will leave you wanting more.
The enchanted forest is slowly losing its magic. After opening the doors for the humans to come and take refuge the natives are finding that they are draining the magic, and quickly.
Barne, a half human half native finds himself stuck between and rock and a hard place. He has to choose a side before it is too late but how is he supposed to choose between each half of himself. And with a darkness rising he has to find a way to make his decision before it is too late.
I was intrigued about this book just from the blurb and the story definitely held up. I loved reading about what had happened and what was coming. Barne was a great character and really helped to hold the story up. This is a new author for me and one that I have enjoyed. I am looking forward to reading more.

The story The Harrowed Half-Breed: A Tarnished Lands Story (Forgotten Woods Book 1) by P.A. Wikoff is a coming of age/dark fantasy book. It is a story that had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is the first book in a series. There is conflict between humans and feathered-folk. The story has many different characters that you read about. There are those who manipulate, betray, and cause chaos to rule. Then there are those who are trying to find themselves and survive. It is set in a time when there is always the threat of war and the fear of starvation. I enjoyed reading about the character of Barne. He knows there is a difference between himself and others. He is a character that is trying to find himself. There is a sadness when reading about what he goes through and the way he is isolated by others. He is a character that I was rooting for to find happiness. Will he play a role in the conflict between humans and feathered-folk? What will the no-compromise stand that both sides have lead to? Read this book to find out. I love that this story includes magic. I find that to be one of the best features of any fantasy story. This is the first book I have ready by the author. It is easy to read and I look forward to the next story in the series. It is a book that I would recommend reading.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and the genre is a not my usual but I actually really enjoyed it. The writing was really good, it was engaging and my interest was kept throughout. Whilst I didn’t really connect with the characters I thought that they were well thought out, planned and developed well over the story. The world-building in this book was particularly good; the author has created an imaginative and creative setting for the story. There are some violent and gritty parts to the story that whilst not to my taste were excellently written.
I would absolutely recommend this book to dark fantasy lovers and I would like to read more from this author in the future.
