The Happy Hollisters
The adventures for the Hollisters begin as soon as they move into their new house on the shore on Pine Lake in Shoreham. First, the moving van carrying their toys and their father’s important new invention disappears. Next, they learn that their house may be haunted, with a treasure hidden somewhere inside!
Right away they all set out to solve these mysteries. Each one of the Hollister children – Pete (age 12), Pam (10), Ricky (7), Holly (6) and Sue (4) – plays an important role in finding clues, along with their parents who are always ready to join in on the excitement. Even Zip, the collie, and White Nose, the cat, are part of the family, and find thrilling adventures of their own.
As the Hollisters explore their new town and make friends, they discover what happened to the moving van, and learn more about the mystery surrounding their new home. Excitement abounds when a secret stairway is discovered. Then, on the trail of a mysterious intruder, their chase leads them to a deserted hut on nearby Blackberry Island.
Over seventy action-packed illustrations make the story— and the Hollister family— so vivid that the reader has a feeling of really sharing in on the adventures of this lovable and interesting family.

One of the best children’s series, yet not well know. Nice to be reminded of the strong family values, morals, and sense of innocent adventure from an earlier era.
I found The Happy Hollisters on my Book Bub as a free book. It reminded me of a time in my past when life was simple yet fun. I will sometimes buy a Youth book just to see what is out there. It was as delightful as the covers depicts. Charming.
good kids book
I remember reading The Happy Hollisters as a child. Excellent and clean storyline for 4th to 6th grade. Remember that this s for the elementary grades, it is an excellent early chapter book. Although there are 33 books in the series, each book is a stand-alone story.
A blast from the past
Really enjoy those old children’s books from simple times.
A great throwback children’s mystery with lively characters and old fashioned charm.
Reminds me of the Boxcar Children I loved them when I was a kid.
Great children’s book
I enjoyed reading this book, The Happy Hollisters were some of my favorites growing up.
This is such a wonderful children’s series. I read it as a child and the children I’ve recommended it to enjoy it today. It is an easy read with short chapters and cliffhangers throughout. I highly recommend it for reluctant readers who might enjoy a more low key style. The “traditional family values” are to be expected from a book of its time. In the series, the family travels and learns about other places while solving exciting mysteries.
I read this entire series as a child and loved them. Then my niece read all of mine and couldn’t get enough of this family of amature sleuths that go to many locations around the world throughout the series. Now I am introducing my great niece to them. The Bobbie Twins slightly updated. (But be aware, they are still at least 50 years old.)
I was thrilled to find this book. My son usually won’t listen to a chapter book but we are enjoying this book a lot.
I read this when in Primary school and related well to it. That was many decades ago. A good children’s early reader written in a time before technology and electronics entered a child’s life. Read it with this time frame in mind.
Good, wholesome family values are portrayed but some of the situations like the kids minding their father’s store for an afternoon are unrealistic, even for back when this book was written. But the children are kind to each other and work together to bring their fun ideas to life.
A sweet book for kids about a more innocent time when children could be more free and problems were manageable.
The Happy Hollisters’ adventures are always pleasant reading. The family interactions are realistic and pleasant, and the mysteries are fun to unravel.
My 10 year old son loves the series.
Good book to read with you young ones.
A journey to a simpler time
