I love a second chances rom-com and Abby Jiminez delivers in The Happy Ever AFter Playlist!
Fierce humor and fiercer heart.
One of the freshest voices in romance. Humor is packed into every line, along with delicious romance and sexual tension. You need this in your life asap!!
The Friend Zone walked so The Happy Ever After Playlist could run.
In The Happy Ever After Playlist Sloan is still struggling two years after losing her fiance. But when a dog jumps into the sunroof of her car (yes, literally) its owner piques her interest. Turns out he’s also a famous singer! But is Sloan ready to move on, and can she even fathom life with someone famous…?
I loved this book so much I powered through it the same day I read The Friend Zone. And this one was even better! It has the heart-wrenching emotion of the first book, but without the (kind of anti-feminist) “not like other girls” archetype and sudden tragedies. This book takes the ever-lovable and sympathetic Sloan and pairs her with one of the few rock stars with a heart of gold (and an adorable dog, to boot). Sometimes, when books progress characters’ relationships too quickly, it feels forced and unrealistic, but in this book, it’s almost like “Oh, FINALLY, they’re saying I love you” even though it’s been, like, three weeks. You just believe they’re meant to be, which can be incredibly hard to convey on the page. This book tore me apart at times, and like The Friend Zone, even made me tear up a little (and I am NOT a crier), but it’s still overall quit happy and cute. It’s definitely a winner in my book.
I listened to the audiobook of this and loved loved this! The narrators did an amazing job with this book. Tucker the dog wins best wingman ever for his job in this book. Tucker comes into Sloan’s life on a horrible day (you learn a lot from book one and should be read to understand the main lady character) but he makes up for the damage by bringing Jason into her life. Jason is a rock star but from Ely, MN so like dream man for anyone but swooooon for me. Like dream book boyfriend material right here!
I loved Friend Zone by Abby but this one was her first book she wrote and wrote Friend Zone after to have the story for this book, you would never guess that . This book I just loved! The writing and story is just perfect. Loved the texting and the banter of how they started to get to know each other before meeting. Love the realness to this story and the rock star life that gets pulled into it all with TMZ and label companies doing shitty things. But I also love his mom and the camping in the Boundary Waters! Even if you are not a huge romance person these two books are worth it to read!
Overall, 5 stars and 3.5 steam.
Abby has a way to write spunky and relatable characters and yummy heroes, and endings that make you smile!
Sweet and achingly romantic-a truly wonderful love story.
This book was fantastic! I immediately felt a part of the story–Abby’s writing is so REAL that I always feel all the feels–Happy, sad, nervous, powerful….all the feels! There were many goosebump moments as I started reading, pages 21, 42,63 (then I stopped keeping count) Where either the connections made to “The Friend Zone” or watching Sloan come out of her horrible depression, i savored every moment of this book. I will read it over and over and will play the songs at the beginning of the chapters for this second read (I just couldn’t wait the first time through).
Abby is an amazing writer who brings the readers right into the world of the story so we FEEL every moment right along with the characters. A MUST READ!
Abby Jimenez gives us a dose of exactly what we need right now! Laugh out loud funny with a punch to the heart and happily ever after! Yet again, she does not disappoint!
“Jimenez combines sentimentality, sexiness, and humor in this remarkable rom-com about finding the courage to take a second chance on love. … Sparking wit and vulnerable characters bring this story to life. Jimenez tackles deep emotions without ever losing sight of fun.”― Publishers Weekly, starred review
I needed something FUN to listen to on audio and my friend recommended this book. Like other reviewers, I agree that it started off strong and so upbeat and fun. It did turn more serious and emotional, but I enjoyed that. The relationship progressed and the emotional investment did, too. Sloan and Jason were an adorable couple. Sloan felt real. Jason was a bit tooo perfect, but he did trip up eventually so that was good. Can’t have a Mr. Perfect for the entire book. The dog was cute. And I loved the banter with Sloan’s friends. (disclaimer: quite a bit of cursing, but it was fine because it worked with the characters/story).
Picked this one up straight after I finished The Friend Zone and fell in love hard. This was a such a beautiful story of self discovery and finding your strength and joy and while I wanted to punch Jason for what he did and especially HOW he did it, I also kinda got it. I also loved that he was miserable without her and even though she was miserable too, the time allowed her to find herself even more. Beautiful ending…onto the next one.

The second book in this series, oh I loved it even more than the first. How this whirlwind romance starts will keep you laughing through the whole book. This book brings up sensitive subjects that are hard to talk about in every day life. PTSD, no matter what kind is a hard thing to deal with. This book touches on what it is like to have that, but also how a person can heal and grow from their pain. The characters of this book are fantastic and this author is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
My first listen By Abby Jimenez. I have been wanting to listen for so long and I’m so glad I finally did. Loved the rock star romance. Jason & Sloan are everything! Excellent narration by Erin Mallon & Zachary Webber.
What made me want to read the story was Sloan finding Jason’s dog then when Jason returned from his trip, she wasn’t going to give the dog back. It set up a way for them to meet from opposite sides of the world. Sloan finally had someone to help her out of her grief from losing her fiancé.
The emotions were strong in this book that dealt with fame, grief, and making sacrifices for the people you love. The characters were special. Jason was the gentleman rock star. His manager Ernie was neither sleezy nor dishonest. Sloan’s friend Kristen had no filter in the best way. Sloan have everything her all.
It’s a really good book and I enjoyed reading it.
In this series of three books this was my favorite. I love how the characters connected over a cute dog. How their story all came together was so fun and perfect.
I rarely give a 5 star rating… and I’d say it’s a 4.5 because of a part I will explain below… but what the heck i’m still flying high off this book so… A full 5 for me. This is my first book by Abby Jimenez and I really enjoy her writing. It’s poignant, funny, great pacing with just the right amount of angst without being too much. She takes us on a journey with the heroine, Sloan, from the tail end of her grief from losing her fiancee 2 years ago to a tragic accident, through meeting the hero, Jason, and all the struggles of dealing with his new found fame and how they navigate these waters.
I was impressed how well Jimenez handled Sloan’s transition out of her grief and starting to live again. It showed an attention to detail and a reverence to anyone having this tragedy happen to them. Many other authors would gloss over this to get to the juicy stuff between the couple but her past is so much a part of who Sloan is now that it has to be addressed. At the end of the book, the author adds a note that this book was inspired by a close friend pf the author’s who also lost a spouse. And I guess in a way this was Jimenez working through that process, by writing about what her friend went through.
I know a romance novel works for me in all ways when I’m so involved with the story that I didn’t care that the sex scenes weren’t that important to me. Not to say that the intimate scenes weren’t good. They were. But it means the author has written a good story, captivating me enough that it doesn’t need multiple hot sex scenes to carry the story through, which so many romance books tend to do these days.
SPOILER ALERT
Now for the .5 less star rating. Not too big of a spoiler but read on if you wish……
It’s the part of the story where they both find out that they admire each others work without even knowing they did. She wrote quite a famous blog about cooking wild game meals from her fiancee’s hunting trips. A blog that Jason and his family follow religiously. So he’s a bit star struck. She, in tern, had crushed on the music of Jackson Waters, Jason’s stage personal, which she listens to regularly, but she didn’t know it was him when she met him. It just felt too coincidental, written more for the sake of the story but didn’t feel that this would have been real.
I’m really looking forward to reading Abby Jimenez’s others in the series…
this book was amazing – great characters, witty dialog, and a heartbreaking storyline. I was laughing and crying as I read it. Just excellent.
It’s a really great follow up to The Friend Zone. Realistic with its conflicts but still ends with a HEA.
Abby needs to write more books. I loved all her characters. Her stories are so touching.
