A New York Times Bestseller and one of the best historical fiction books of 2016 and 2017!“A juicy answer to Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton… Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, from passionate and tender beginnings of their romance to his fateful duel on the banks of the Hudson River.
Hamilton was a bastard and orphan, raised in the Caribbean and desperate for legitimacy, who became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing–and improbable–heroes. Admired by George Washington, scorned by Thomas Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the new nation. Elizabeth was the wealthy, beautiful, adventurous daughter of the respectable Schuyler clan–and a pioneering advocate for women. Together, the unlikely couple braved the dangers of war, the perils of seduction, the anguish of infidelity, and the scourge of partisanship that menaced their family and the country itself.
With flawless writing, brilliantly drawn characters, and epic scope, The Hamilton Affair tells a story of love forged in revolution and tested by the bitter strife of young America, and will take its place among the greatest novels of American history ever written.

An eye opener: Founding Fathers with feet of clay! Politics not much better then than now.
Amazing story of Alexander Hamilton and the birth of our nation. Many insights into life in the 1700s and the struggle to create an independent and self-sufficient government.
This book was an enjoyable read. It is the story of both Alexander and Eliza Hamilton and their lifelong love affair that took place against the backdrop of the American revolution and the birth of America.
You will come to appreciate the debt this country owes him. Since he was outlived by many of his enemies history did not give credit where credit was do. Hamilton was the architect of our banking system and treasury department. In fact much of what we take for granted in our federal government evolved from his ideas. Without Hamilton this country may not have survived to become the union of states we have today.
The book is not just about the public man but also his private side. He was a devoted father and husband. He was also a loyal friend. In this book we get to learn about his childhood in St. Croix and his years studying in America prior to the revolution. We get a glimpse into the forces and circumstances that formed the man.
Though not as detailed as My Dear Hamilton it is still a thorough fictional bio. If you read no other book on Hamilton you will get a good understanding of the man and his times.
I enjoy historical fiction
I rated a 2 only because I was not able to get into it after two tries. I love hostorical reads, and I love Hamilton, but this didn’t grab me. Others may feel differently.
I found it slow reading.
helped me to understand the history of Alexander Hamilton
I liked the history involved with this story
Even though this is historical fiction, the author keeps true to the lives of Alexander and Eliza Hamilton as much as possible. If you’re hesitant to tackle Ron Chernow’s wonderful biography but want to know more about one of our more fascinating founding father’s and his extraordinary wife, this book offers a good alternative.
I enjoyed a different insight into Hamilton’s life. Doesn’t follow his life as historically as I would have liked, but still was a great book
Hard to follow plot
A very interesting look at history and relationship from a different side of the duo. The characters are tough and the times were so challenging . An inside view of hamilton’s life. He was an interesting, self taught exceptional man.
Amateurishly written…
Makes Hamilton seem real.
This was a well written account of Alexander Hamilton’s live and love. I felt it was informative as well as a good story. I realize it was historical fiction, but I believe (taught history) it accurately portrayed the struggles he went through establishing a national bank with a distrustful Congress and public. I also liked the way the author wove in his early days and his desire to “be somebody” in his life. It gave a decent understanding of the man. His wife didn’t take a back seat in the story, and we were left to admire her strength during her lifetime.
A rags to riches story of a truly captivating and talented gentleman.
I really enjoy historical fiction. I believe this is a well-researched book that follows the actual lives lived by Hamilton and his family very closely. It takes the emphasis off of Alexander and places it squarely on Eliza, his wife, without demeaning Alexander. It gives a realistic glimpse of what it may have been like for a slave-holding family living in the north during the early days of our nation. Very good book!
This is a fictionalized story of Alexander Hamilton’s life. It is easy to read and seems to be mostly historically accurate. I read this prior to seeing the musical “Hamilton” and found that having read this book made seeing the musical more enjoyable too!
Excellent “history”
Loved it, loved it and didn’t want it to end.
