A New York Times Bestseller and one of the best historical fiction books of 2016 and 2017!“A juicy answer to Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton… Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, from passionate and tender beginnings of their romance to his fateful duel on the banks of the Hudson River.
Hamilton was a bastard and orphan, raised in the Caribbean and desperate for legitimacy, who became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing–and improbable–heroes. Admired by George Washington, scorned by Thomas Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the new nation. Elizabeth was the wealthy, beautiful, adventurous daughter of the respectable Schuyler clan–and a pioneering advocate for women. Together, the unlikely couple braved the dangers of war, the perils of seduction, the anguish of infidelity, and the scourge of partisanship that menaced their family and the country itself.
With flawless writing, brilliantly drawn characters, and epic scope, The Hamilton Affair tells a story of love forged in revolution and tested by the bitter strife of young America, and will take its place among the greatest novels of American history ever written.

Truly riveting portrayal of a man sorely neglected in history who was perhaps one of the most brilliant men of his era and an unheralded Founding Father of US democracy and his extraordinary wife Eliza. Remarkably well researched; highly recommended to anyone with an inquiring mind wishing to read about a turbulent time that shaped the America we know today.
Alexander Hamilton was portrayed always in a positive light. I believe he was probably a less than honorable man towards his wife. He was probably a patriot first and Family was respected much less than country and career advancement. I must now read another autho’r’s take on Hamilton, Jefferson and Madison were enemies of Hamilton. I need more information regarding why he was so hated by others in his cohort.
Fantastic historical fiction. The story shows the birth of our nation through the eyes of one of the founding fathers, and it wasn’t as straightforward as it looked in History class!
I found this book very interesting. I know that it was historical fiction, but after reading it I discussed it with my grandsons. We compared info: their knowledge from the “Hamilton” sound track and mine from the book. Everything I mentioned, they already knew. I liked the book, but I am a big fan of the Historical Fiction. So, it was right up my alley. I did wish that some topics could have been covered more in depth.
Normally I don’t do history novels but this was written so well that I feel I I learned more about Hamilton. I also appreciate what the leaders & their families went through to gain our freedom & independence. It is a story not biography but details are very accurate on most events.
A very interesting book on the life (and loves) of Alexander Hamilton.
I enjoyed this book and learning more about an important historical figure. It was a little ‘heavier’ than you’d usual novel but very educational and informative. I love it when writers are scholars in their subject material.
The history lessons were fascinating!
enjoyed the history in this book but did not find it a page turner
I
Andrew Hamilton was a character. It surprises me that his wife stayed with him all knowing of his affair.
Extremely well-done read about Hamilton. Learned so much.
Quality historical fiction that is enjoyable to read.
Tells you things you probably never knew about the founding of our country. Hamilton played a much larger part than I was awarw he truly was a remarkable man in many fronts.
Excellent read !
The story seems well-aligned with history. Eliza Hamilton was an amazing, inspiring woman. A great story, well-written.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I found this book an interesting read about Alexander Hamilton and his family life. There was enough history included to keep it in perspective in what was occurring during this time period in U.S. History. Although it is fiction, it seems to be well-researched and the author’s note explains discrepancies. Read this if you want an easy read without an in-depth biography of Hamilton.
Good historical fiction. Started out a little slow but then it picked up and I had a hard time putting it down
Great history lesson and romantic too
It makes you feel better about politics today, it was never smooth going!
