A New York Times Bestseller and one of the best historical fiction books of 2016 and 2017!“A juicy answer to Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton… Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, from passionate and tender beginnings of their romance to his fateful duel on the banks of the Hudson River.
Hamilton was a bastard and orphan, raised in the Caribbean and desperate for legitimacy, who became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing–and improbable–heroes. Admired by George Washington, scorned by Thomas Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the new nation. Elizabeth was the wealthy, beautiful, adventurous daughter of the respectable Schuyler clan–and a pioneering advocate for women. Together, the unlikely couple braved the dangers of war, the perils of seduction, the anguish of infidelity, and the scourge of partisanship that menaced their family and the country itself.
With flawless writing, brilliantly drawn characters, and epic scope, The Hamilton Affair tells a story of love forged in revolution and tested by the bitter strife of young America, and will take its place among the greatest novels of American history ever written.

While I don’t gravitate toward biographies or histories, I read this book to prepare for Hamilton, the musical. I’m so glad I did. It was very readable and made our founding fathers come alive. I immensely enjoyed the musical, but not sure I would have followed all of it without this history to fill in the gaps. I came away from the book with a real sense of our founding fathers and the tenuous beginnings our country had.
I have read a number of books about Hamilton. This one is during the years of his courting and then marrying and having a family. I am not sure how to review this book except to say if you are interested in that period of his life then you will surely enjoy what is written. It is also quite political, or at least political in that he is always working with his constituents, the public, etc., to the detriment, somewhat, of his family life.
Good historical fiction that kept me engaged and had me looking things up to learn more about our history.
A ,marvelous look into American history. Very informative on Hamilton and other political leaders at the time.
Makes these important people and the times they were living in come alive
I came to america when I was much older so did not know a lot about the initial years and the birth of this nation. Enjoyed reading this immensely. He was a person to admire and respect.
Great telling of a true American hero who overcame terrible prejudice and a very hard start in life .
To see where AlexanderHamilton came from and grew to be an Ametican figurehead is amazing.
Loved getting a background picture into the life of a character of history.
Great book, got me interested in more about Hamilton.
I learned a lot from this historical novel. The characters came to life, and I could almost see them and feel their emotions. Very well written.
Great way to learn of the birth of the United States and what it cost those who dedicated themselves to the revolution. Also people and politics so familiar.
Juicy!
learned a lot
Interesting read. Brought the characters to life
I loved this book. While entertaining it was also interesting to learn so much history away the same time. Definitely already recommended to a friend.
I am very interested in tales of our Founding Fathers. This story was well researched, especially for a character about whom there is so little direct information. It was wonderfully written and led you from one extraordinary situation to another. I also learned a lot!
I love historical fiction.
Entertaining way to learn history
Long an Alexander Hamilton fan, I found this book to be more personal than many biographies that deal with only his political and business life. It gave insight into a man that deeply loved his country, his wife and family, but was very often torn between which one came first. I would recommend it to anyone looking to see another side of a very dedicated patriot.
