This is a interesting paranormal. Alexandra is a PI with unusual clients. Someone hires her for an innocuous job which seems to lead her down a rabbit hole. All kinds of things start happening to her and people showing up. She has always had a gift but she didn’t know how big of a gift it was.
This Entertaining and the author does a good job describing but yet makes it enjoyable to listen to. Nicely done.
I did listen to this on audio and Jessica M Hepburn did a good job.
This book really surprised me as I did not know what to expect. I absolutely love the characters and the story line. The book kept me going, wanting to find out what was going to happen next, and ultimately not put it down! All I want to know after reading this, is when is the next one coming out! 🙂 This reminded me a lot of Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum books, but with an urban fantasy twist! The whole concept is really awesome. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but this one piqued my interest immediately. I’d not read anything by Devin Hanson before this book. I made some snap assumptions about this book immediately that were incorrect and I was pleased to be wrong. I assumed that since the heroine was only 21 there was going to be a lot of YA drama, which is not my preference – I generally steer clear for just that reason. There was none of that to be found. Also, I assumed Devin was female, it seems the majority of authors in this genre are. I was wrong again.
I found that Devin brought a fresh perspective and a strength to the protagonist which I was appreciating all through the first book. It had a different enough feel that it was noticeable to me. He brings a toughness to the characters that I really enjoyed. As a prolific reader, I can tell how difficult it is to write outside of your own perspective. He really nailed it in my opinion.
There is so much good stuff in this book! At one point I thought I must be close to the end, because there’s been so much action! I was really only 60% through. Oh, man…that’s such an awesome feeling! Knowing that you’ve been on this crazy adventure and so much has happened – enough to fill a whole book in itself – and you still have almost as much yet to go. I couldn’t put it down! I immediately went and read books 2-4 on KU and am eagerly awaiting book 5. When is it coming Devin?!?
This series has a unique take Fae, vampires, and other goodies and baddies. I don’t like to recite what the book was about in my review – i think that’s up to the reader to discover and enjoy for themselves, but I can’t say enough good things about this book and the other’s I’ve read in the series. Pick it up, you won’t regret it and chances are, you’ll be addicted just like i was 🙂
I read all three books in the series so far and really like them all hope there are more coming with this character
Have you ever wanted to read a story of a woman making passionate love with a dragon? Well, you came to the right freaken place. But not only is it all romance, but this character is also going to leave you speechless. Her personality is so well developed you’re going to think an actual woman wrote this. I applaud the author because he really did his research, its not another gross male fantasy with an unrealistic female character. He takes time and cares about giving her life, and especially developing such a wonderful world around her. Read it. You won’t be sorry.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down and had to read the whole series.
The Halfblood’s Hoard is an excellent start to the series. The world builds and I couldn’t help but keep turning the pages! Alex Ascher is a great MC with wit and a great dose of intelligence and street smarts. This is an enchanting book and the rest of the series is even better!
There are several reasons I liked this book, but mostly I liked the main character and the fact that she was well developed as a character that didn’t just win every scene hands down or figure everything out with little to no clues.
Yeah the test the first of the development growth and emotional growth of the characters involved along with the story plot and the overall experience writing this book I’m gathering
Entertaining witty dialog, fast-paced and seductive.
Loved Alex and her wit. Love that the book takes place in LA where I lived for 20+ years. Love the world and how the author has crafted a paranormal society that is different than other’s I’ve read. This was a fun book with lots of twists and turns. I’m excited to read the next in the series to learn more about Alex and the world that she lives in!
I’ve read only a little bit of Devin Hanson’s work but this one is my favorite. I really enjoy Fantasy and Sci-Fi, so it was interesting to see a setting that incorporated some real world mythologies into a fresh take on modern Fantasy. Something else I really liked was that the language is simple enough for me to digest quickly without feeling like it’s trying to meet a lowest-common-denominator. The story was easy to follow and enjoy with elements of mystery, action, and coming-of-age. Check it out if you like supernatural thrillers!
