NOW A TOP 40 AMAZON BESTSELLER!Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk. Not cool, Mom.I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself. There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an … royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.
Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.
And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.
That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.
Everything is perfect.
That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.
I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.
I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.
Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.
All books in the series can be read as a stand-alone.

It made me laugh, it made me cry, I made me feel and just love Kate Stewart even more!! Theo and Laney are amazing!! I love how their relationship develops, I love the type of people the are- how they love their families and friends.
I loved watching them grow as themselves and together. I love #Grannisms!! Such great life lessons for all of us.
Kate Stewart is this incredible person and author and this book is just another great story she’s brought to us!!
Two people that couldn’t of been more perfect for each other! Laney and Theo had the connection and quirks that made my heart swell. Their chemistry just makes you swoon so hard. This book just touched every part of me! Seriously, funny and so sexy. But also touching and romantic. I couldn’t put this book down! I needed to read more and more. One of the best books I have read!
I loved it, I did! I absolutely loved this book. It’s fun, laugh out loud funny, full of emotion and so much more than the blurb would suggest. Clever, intelligent humour, that flows naturally without trying too hard or wandering into slapstick territory, is my favourite and Ms Stewart captured me here with her wonderful witty banter and hugely engaging characters. The situations they found themselves in, their thoughts and internal dialogue had me in stitches.
Theo is referred to as the underdog but I didn’t particularly get those vibes from him. He may not be the overly muscled jock, the one you notice first, but he doesn’t totally lack confidence, except perhaps when it comes to his love life. He recognises his own strengths and weaknesses and is happy to stay within the boundaries of his expertise, well for the most part! He may be a little nerdy and self deprecating, but he’s hugely talented. Although not your typical hero, as the story progresses he very definitely becomes worthy of the title of sexy book boyfriend. For me, there’s something inherently attractive about a man with musical abilities and Theo has those skills in abundance.
I loved the way that Theo and Laney became inseparable, their relationship growing so that they became the best of friends. There was a certain spark between them but it took a while for them to acknowledge and act on it. I guess you could call it a slow burn, but not frustratingly so. I was hugely invested in their friendship and for me the way it went from that to something more was perfect, seamless, real and relatable. Laney is amazing. Smart, sassy, loyal and often impulsive, she’s full of life and fiercely independent. She’s wonderfully quirky and I want her to exist in real life and not just between the pages of a book, so that I can make her my best friend.
There’s an amazing cast of supporting characters too, each with their own fantastic personalities. It was, however, Theo and Laney who stood front and centre and I adored everything about them. Their ups and downs, their willingness to show their vulnerability to each other, and ultimately their love born from that deep seated friendship.
I’m blown away by the versatility of this author when it comes to her writing. From the intensity, anguish and drama that is Method, to the fun, humour and heart of The Guy, Ms Stewart shows us that she is wonderfully multi talented and has firmly cemented herself as one of my favourite authors.
Oh Lort, what a fantastic story, sweet, sexy, funny and swoonworthingly, heartwarming. Just wonderful, its made me feel all smiley inside.
Theo is a truly kind hearted loveable guy, but the one always overlooked by the girls when Troy, his hotshot footballer housemate with the sexy panty melting smile is about.
Laney has had it with the pretty boys who have the looks but no substance. When she meets Theo they hit it off immediately, but it’s a strictly friends only zone. But what will happen when she meets Troy, her kryptonite type. Will Laney do what he expects or will she be different to all the other girls?
This rom com hit all the right spots, had all the feels and enough angst to keep it real. I really liked both Theo and Laney as people and I loved the slow burn as they got to know one another and started to see the real depths of the other as they broke down their hardened emotional barriers.
It wasn’t at all what I expected it to be from reading the blurb, it was so much more, but then that is Kate Stewart all over.
Special note: I absolutely loved the Grannisms!!
“Everyone should do something bat shit crazy once in a while, it’s good for the soul.”
Thankyou Kate Stewart for putting a smile on my face and the warm fuzzy feelings inside with this wonderful book. 5 big #livingourrealestlives stars
WOW this book is simply perfect! There is literally not a single thing I didn’t like about it. I laughed, cried and felt so much joy reading this. It’s a quick read with a friends to lovers trope set in college. Laney and Theo meet in a very unusual way, leaving not knowing what each other looked like or even their names. Their second meet is hilarious as well as many of their other interactions later. Their banter is so good. The writing and pacing of the book were perfect. I LOVED this couple and I was rooting for them all the way. I am very interested to read Troy’s novella coming soon. Highly recommend this one! You will not get this couple out of your head for a long time!
* I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Guy on the Right is another fantastic 5 star read from Kate Stewart. This book is a slow burn, romantic comedy that will keep you smiling and wanting more. I can’t being to count the number of times I was laughing out loud. I’m not typically a big fan of slow burn romances, but Kate Stewart pulled it off beautifully. You will be loving and rooting for Theo throughout the book. It was refreshing to read a book where the hero isn’t “perfect”, yet is perfect for his heroine. He may not fit the “sex god” persona, but Theo will definitely make you swoon. Laney is one lucky woman!
Lort, where do I even begin with the perfection that is Theo and Laney?!
Everything from the title to the blurb give you the impression we are about to meet the guy on the right who doesn’t quite fit the mold. What comes is exactly the opposite. Theo is EVERYTHING!
And it was through Laney’s eyes I was able to see what few have even bothered to notice. The fact they remained friends for so long just reiterated exactly what type of guy he is. Guarded but willing to put forth the effort, especially when given the right opportunity.
“And a good rock rarely becomes a rolling stone”
KS always does a brilliant job of using dialogue to describe her characters. So many times I laughed out loud and swooned with my heart aflutter. The heat coming off the pages was a bit unexpected which only made it feel like MORE.
I can’t think of anything I didn’t love or appreciate from this book, including the soundtrack. In fact, this book just made me feel warm and giddy all over. Definitely one of my top books this year. And now knowing we get Troys story??!!
This book is so amazing, it’s hard to even write this review, I can’t think of the right words! This is my third Kate Stewart book, and each and every book just gets more amazing than the last. I absoloutely adored everything about this book! The story, the characters, the humor (I actually laughed out loud a couple times, which I NEVER do when reading (the high part was the best)), and the emotions it made me feel! I loved how lighthearted and swoony this book was, and still managed to make me cry! The characters are all so refreshing, especially Theo and Lacey! No manwhore here! Which I LOVED about Theo! Well, Troy was, and yet I still can’t wait for his novella, especially with that bomb at the end! I would even love a book with mysterious Lance! I can’t remember the last time i was this invested and sped through a book this fast, not wanting to take my eyes off of it even for a second! I even forgot to turn the playlist on, I just kept wanting more and more! I cannot wait for Troy’s novella and future works by Kate! Such an amazing book!
5 Stars!
Theo Houseman is a 21 yr. old junior at Texas Grand University. He lives in College Station where he rents a place with two football athletes who are every woman’s dream. He’s a former band geek, who grew up with three older sisters who called him Teddy. Now he’s Theo. A college guy with a fresh start who knows what he wants. He might be the dependable good guy, but he shouldn’t be underestimated, because when he finally lands the girl if his dreams, he will do anything to keep her. This feisty, independent brunette is his opposite in every way, but she gets him.
Laney Cox is a senior at TGU. She’s decided she’s done dating for a while, and then she meets Theo. He’s not her usual type, but something about him is really appealing. They just click, and it’s easy and effortless between them. They become the best of friends who form a real, genuine connection. They talk about everything and are inseparable. As they spend more time together, they become even more drawn to one another. Together they just make sense. Neither wants to ruin this friendship that’s so important to them, but feelings are getting harder and harder to ignore.
The Guy On The Right by Kate Stewart is a hilarious friend’s to lovers college romance. Let me start by saying Theo Houseman is freaking awesome!!! This is a guy who is nice, but knows his worth. I loved that he wasn’t willing to just settle, and his confidence was super sexy. Then his heart… this man’s heart was stunningly beautiful, and one of a kind. I couldn’t quit laughing and smiling while reading this book. It’s pure joy, and one of the best romantic comedies I’ve ever read! Kate Stewart will now have two books on my tops reads of 2019. I can’t stop thinking about these characters. Pick up this book! You are in for a treat with Theo Houseman!
Well Ms. Stewart, you have done it again! You have made me fall in love even more with you and your writing!
A true underdog story indeed!! I was cheering so hard for Theo and I absolutely floved both Theo and Lainey!
It’s usually a challenge for me to actually laugh out loud when reading a romantic comedy, but holy crow, I caught myself laughing out loud and actually crying with laughter at some points in this story! I knew Ms. Stewart could bring the angst and the heartbreak in her past stories but she really brought the humor and heart in this story!
Theo is a true renaissance man! He is what you need in a hero and more! I loved his vulnerability and I admired his honesty about it.
Lainey is a self described gpysy soul. I loved her humor, her loyalty and her heart! She too has her vulnerabilities and copes with them in the best way she knows how.
The slow burn in this story is off the charts hot and the whole premise of this story is so honest and so refreshing! A true original! The secondary characters bring even more to the story and I hope that Ms. Stewart isn’t done writing in this world she has created!
This is definitely in the running for one of my “Best Reads of 2019”. I laughed, I swooned and I fell in love hard with all the characters in this novel! #livingyourrealistlife indeed!!
What can I say about Theo? I LOVE him! I challenge anyone to read this book and not be won over by him. There is not one single thing about this guy that I didn’t love. He’s the underdog…I’m always going to root for the underdog. Always. He’s a former band geek, he’s sweet, caring, loyal, he’s just a really good, decent guy. Does he stand out from the crowd? Probably not. But once you notice him, it’ll be hard to take your attention off him. There’s something about Theodore Houseman that I couldn’t get enough of.
Laney is done with boys. She’s taking time for herself and boys don’t factor into her plan. I loved Laney. Her attitude, her unpredictability, everything about her is fun. A chance meeting brings her and Theo into one another’s lives and they start to form this unbelievably sweet and funny friendship. If I could have picked any woman for Theo it would’ve been Laney. They’re a match made in heaven as far as I’m concerned and I was completely invested in their story.
This is such a fantastic book. I read this in one go, you would have had to pry my kindle from my cold dead fingers to get me stop reading. I wasn’t sure this was going to be for me when I picked it up but by the end of the first page I was completely hooked. Another brilliant book from Kate Stewart.
My cheeks still hurt from laughing and smiling so much!!
Between Madea, and Dave in the White Taurus, Doritos, and my personal favorite GINA, my makeup was RUINED! Thankfully my hubs is a heavy sleeper and my wheezing laughter didn’t wake him!
Leave it to Kate to write such a refreshing and funny and swoony love story to bring out all the feels.
If I could give it 100 stars I would.
LOVED IT!!!!!
5 stars! I loved it! It made me laugh, it made me swoon (with a little angst mixed in) and it had the perfect slow burn to bring it all home. Theo and Laney were fantastic!! As usual, Kate made the PERFECT playlist to go along with the book too. I highly recommend!!
All the ’s
Laney and Theo are characters I won’t forget!
The nice guy isn’t usually my thing, in this story I swooned!! It was a genius premise!
The hilarious banter and eccentricities were refreshing and laugh out loud funny!
This story made me smile. It was so fresh and a real page turner!
Not much angst, loved that!
The friends and family were great characters who added laughs and made the story full.
The musical aspect adds to the flavor.
Loved it so hard!!
If you want to smile, laugh and fall in love read this!!
Highly recommend it!!
This is a great story. I love laneý and Theo so much. Highly recommend this story to everyone
Theo and Laney were everything. They were realistic, honest, funny and #livingtheirrealestlives #relationshipgoals
5 stars is not enough!!! I loved this book and these characters. This is my favorite read of 2019.
The Guy on the Right is hilarious, yet at the same time has the perfect blend of swoon (like, serious swoon!) hot scenes, one of the best and hottest first kisses EVER, a little dose of angst, a few tears both in laughter and upset, and one of the best and absolutely epic endings I have EVER read. Jam packed full of humor, smart wit and such lovable characters, you’ll find it impossible to wipe the smile off your face. This book had EVERYTHING in spades and then some.
Laney and Theo are not your standard, typical romance couple – and that’s what I love about it! It was a true, friends to lovers romance with two of the most quirky and unique characters I’ve ever read about. Theo and Laney were a delight to read. They balance out each other’s negatives and elevate each other’s positives. The small gestures, the simple moments and the tiny yet meaningful strands of connection made it one of the sweetest and swooniest romances I have ever read.
The slow burn in this story is off the charts hot and the whole premise of this story is so honest and so refreshing. I was so wrapped up in Theo and Laney’s story, it was unique and unconventional that match the characters perfectly and those little quirks were like a breath of fresh air. A true one of a kind! The secondary characters bring even more depth to the story and I really hope that Kate Stewart is not done writing in this world she has created. This is one of the books I would love to become a movie. Yes, it’s that amazing.
This book was so good! So different from the other Kate Stewart books I’ve read. All good, but this one was just different. This was more funny, less angst. Theo was my perfect guy. Seriously. Not your typical book boyfriend, but in my eyes, he’s everything I wanted when I was in college. Laney was a realistic, down to earth college student. Loved her. The two meet at a party and quickly become friends. After they have established a good friendship they take things to the next level. Their romantic relationship wasn’t easy. They definitely had their issues. I felt this story was very realistic and I appreciated it. Theo had a couple of roommates that I also found interesting and would love to get their stories. He also had several sisters that I thought was hilarious. Loved them! Maybe one or two of them could get a story. Wink, wink. Great story. I highly recommend it. Everyone should read it. Great job Kate Stewart!
Wow! This book brought out all sorts of emotions in me but the best one of all was happiness! It poured from the pages, in fact I think this quote just proves it.
“My stomach is sore from all the laughing we did.”
I was so wrapped up in Theo and Laney’s story it was unique and unconventional that match the characters perfectly and those little quirks were like a breath of fresh air straight into my heart!
It was fascinating to read and is was fully invested in the friendship from the bird chasing to the car repos I couldn’t wait to see what adventure they would get up to next which made this so much more than a romance book it really was about #livingthererealestlife.
This story made me, much like Laney and Theo let my guard down so when suddenly my heart was ripped from my chest I wasn’t quite prepared for it, sobbing ensued to the point of humiliation in front of my children but I should have known better with Kate Stewart as she’s has this skill much like fishing, she reels you in gets you all settled down and falling deep ,then pulls you from the world as you know it ripping you to shreds and sends you back with half a heart that is doubtful to ever fully recover!
