NOW A TOP 40 AMAZON BESTSELLER!Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk. Not cool, Mom.I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself. There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an … royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.
Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.
And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.
That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.
Everything is perfect.
That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.
I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.
I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.
Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.
All books in the series can be read as a stand-alone.

Theodore Houseman is my new book boyfriend.
I honestly thought that it would be someone more alpha, but I was so wrong. Theo is that perfect blend of alpha and beta. He can be mysterious and authoritative when he needs to but also vulnerable and sensitive.
He and Laney are so everything together. They balanced each other out perfectly.
I loved everything about this book. So much so that my words are a jumbled mess in my head trying to get out, leaving me unable to adequately describe my feelings for this book.
Just know that you should read it. It is amazing. You will not regret it.
Cute college-drama-romance between Theo, the virgin band geek, and Laney, the quirky not so virgin girl not looking for a guy.
What begins as somewhat of a lonely hearts friendship slowly turns to something much more neither person expected.
“She’s a second look kind of girl. The first look at her is for simple appreciation for the stunner she is. The second look is a realization of what an idiot you were for not looking longer the first time around.”
This story had my attention from the opening pages and I didn’t want to put it down. With the addition of the Grannism’s being a perfect touch as I imagined Laney’s Gran guiding her. Throw in Theo’s sisters and we had some true magic.
Although this was kind of an InstaLove…because of their chemistry, Theo and Laney’s friendship blossomed first, then progressed into a relationship. There was a perfect balance of humour and angst, making reading this book overall a delightful experience.

New Adult | College Romance | Opposites Attract
The Guy on the Right is an engaging story about two people who come together despite the major differences in their personalities. Theo absolutely stole my heart and I fell for him almost immediately. This is definitely an “underdog” love story; one where the hero is pretty insecure but has a heart of gold. I loved seeing him fall in love. GAH! I cannot even begin to describe just how much I loved his character. What a man! The insecurities he felt were so authentic too and I felt him… Honestly, it was like a kinship between him and I! Kate Stewart did an amazing job at writing his story! You may be wondering what makes him an “underdog” and I’ll write why below:
His insecurities sometimes get the best of him and he never feels like he’s “enough”. This is mainly due to the guys he surrounds himself with (he compares himself to them all the time and feels inferior).
His ex-girlfriend did a number on his heart when she cheated on him. What made it even worse for him was the fact that both pledged to save their virginity and she lost it to some random guy at a party when they were still together. Talk about a hurt ego!
He never seems to “get the girl.” How many heroes have you read about it that do not get the girl they want right away? I honestly cannot even come up with one! He stands out not because he can’t get the girl though, but because of his heart. **SWOONS**
He is NOT your typical romance hero. He plays in the school band (not sports). I know this doesn’t specifically make him an underdog, but it does play a bit of a role in his character and I think many readers will agree that it adds to the whole “underdog” vibe because most women don’t say “I want to band geek over the sports hero.” Note: I didn’t see him as a band geek at all, just pointing out assumptions and differences between this kind of love story and the others out there.
The heroine of the story is quite the spitfire and is filled with a ton of sass! She’s the perfect woman for Theo even though she is completely different. She built their relationship as an amazing friendship first and then slowly fell for him because of who he is on the inside. I loved being a part of their story and watching their love blossom. They were so much fun to see together! Also, completely HILARIOUS!
One of the things I didn’t care for was how SLOW this book felt. It may just be me but it seemed that some of the book really lagged. While I did love reading it, I wasn’t super duper excited to devour it like I do some romance books. Perhaps its because their relationship was slow burn? I don’t know for sure, but some of it really dragged for me. Another thing is that there was SO MUCH DIALOGUE. I wanted to “see” the places they were which is only possible if the author sets up the setting for us. For some reason (and I don’t know if this is how it is in all her books) most of the book took place via conversation between the characters. I found this a little strange.
Other than that, I loved Theo and Laney’s love story. It’s unique, funny, and all sorts of adorable. I look forward to reading the next on when I have some more time for older reads!
4 1/2 stars. Loved it.
Freaking awesome book!
Average Theo is attractive but not amazingly hot like his roommate Troy.
Lany is attracted to perfect looking guys yet they are lacking in so many other areas.
By chance the two meet when they are at their lowest and form a hilarious and perfect friendship.
Lany is crazy, completely hilarious, bold, and crazy.
I absolutely loved the dynamic between these two. These two, their friends and family all amazing character.
Definitely a must read.
I absolutely loved this story. First its hysterical! And I do mean uncontrollable laughing out loud until I was crying funny. But what really awesome is that it is also all kinds of romantic and heartfelt. While I laughed most of the book when things got messy I also cried. I probably cried some happy tears too. I fell in love with Theo and the fact that he isn’t your normal college jock hero…he is the guy on the right and that lends to a character with a different dynamic and growth opportunities than I am used to. Don’t get me wrong he is still super sexy. I found him interesting and talented…talent is hot. Then there is Laney with her crazy antics and hidden heart. It is a bit of a slow burn friends to lovers romance and the ride is so much fun. Im not sure the last thing I read that was this funny while also creating characters I really cared about. Ill be keeping my eye out to see if it gets released in an audio version because I would love to listen to it. Excited for more in this series.
Bravo!
I always love to root for the underdog and that’s exactly what I did for The Guy on the Right!
You will smile, laugh and swoon throughout this story as Laney and Theo finally take their strong friendship to the next level. Is it always a smooth ride? No! Is it worth in the end? Yes!
I love Kate Stewart and this book is just as good as I have come to expect from her!
OMGaaaaah!!!! How Cute. Adorable. Fabulous. Fun. Sweet. Amazing is The Guy On The Right….. 100%
I had the best time while reading this book. I absolutely loved it and I absolutely fell in love with Theo. Let me tell you. He is one of a kind. He most definitely stands out from all the other book boyfriends. A league of his own. (At least I haven’t come across a hero like him) Amazing.
And Laney She’s a fucken rockstar. LUV her!!!!
I’m seriously super excited for the next book in this series
This 5 star book hit so many boxes for me that I instantly want to reread it. It had me sighing from the sweet romantic gestures, it had me laughing out loud with its many hilarious moments, it had me fanning myself with its hot, panty melting sex and overall had me rooting for Laney and Theo’s HEA in this opposites attract, new friends to lovers story.
Theo and Laney’s friendship starts with a very honest conversation one night at a college party, when they stumble upon each other in the dark while drunk and reeling from the events of the not so great night. The night sets them on such a great foundation of friendship that slowly turns into more for these two opposites.
I absolutely adored these two characters and found them to be so fun and original. They were hilarious in their banter, honesty and outspokenness that I was rooting for their happy ending from the start. Theo is prime boyfriend material, having perfected foreplay for many years without ever doing the deed, and yet he’s the guy who’s often overlooked. He knows he’s not a stunner like his football player roommates, but he knows what it means to be a good boyfriend.
Because he was burned by his first love, it’s not easy for him to trust what was potentially developing between him and Laney especially since Laney didn’t have the best track record with her past relationships. Stewart’s writing was so superb in conveying Theo’s struggle with his growing feelings for Laney while also trying to protect his own heart from making the same mistakes of the past if those feelings weren’t reciprocated.
“This is most definitely not a date, not if the word, ‘adorable’ was used when she described me. Adorable translation—my penis will never enter her vagina. But she will use me at her leisure, like a stuffed animal. I’ll be there for comfort on long, lonely nights; and she will drag my ass around by the arm until I’m filthy, my limbs are ripping apart at the seams from neglect, and my insides are coming out. I’ve most definitely been friend-zoned, or in my case, Teddy’d.”
I loved Laney’s outspokenness and her spunk as well as her ability to lay her feelings out on the line. The scenes with the pot gummy and even the tornado just had me in stitches and the pacing of the story was just right.
I absolutely loved this story and couldn’t put it down (and now I must go binge on all of Kate Stewart’s books!). It’s rare that a book can make me laugh, cry and just completely suck me in and give me all the feels, and this one did that and more. I highly recommend!
I’ve read plenty of Kate Stewart (not all but darn near close) and am used to her ripping my heart about. But this… the humor, the lightness, the great story of these two coming together, I loved it so much.
Theo is such a different kind of alpha hero, but the way he is written is amazing. Laney is a heroine that takes no crap, but you can clearly see her vulnerable side. Their chemistry is amazing. I loved this so much!
This was my first Kate Stewart read – I know, I know I have been under a rock or something.
What a cute, funny and fun book to get lost in. After a few darker reads lately, I needed something sweet that wouldn’t tax my emotions as hard as what I have been reading.
I adore Laney and Theo’s story – even when I hated people I adored them too.
The last 20 pages I spent with a big smile on my face (and maybe a sneaky tear in the eye).
I enjoyed this story, and will add more Kate Stewart to my library in the future.
I was so surprised by this book, I have to confess that I’ve read 2 other Kate Stewart books and they weren’t for me. They weren’t bad, I would never write a negative review simply because the authors writing style wasn’t one that I love, especially when the books were well written. That being said, I absolutely adore Laney and Teddy. This book was so funny, had fantastic banter, a firey h, great supporting characters (Teddy’s sisters made me feel a tiny bit guilty for all the things my sister and I have done to our brother). The characters all felt real, like someone you would actually know, no one was so tragic or out there it was implausible. Teddy making breakfast for all the girls *swoon*, such a great guy. The bombs dropped in the last 25% of the story have me so excited for the next book. Highly recommend.
I really adored Theo, however the book could have been much shorter. I found myself skipping pages….
5 plus plus plus stars
I have no words for how much I loved this book !!!!
I’ve read it all too fast and I don’t want it to be over !
It had me in fits of giggles , and the all teared up and just feeling all warm and lovey .
Laney and Theo are just adorable and fun and so RIGHT together !

Amazing Friends to Lovers story!
Feel good story that made me laugh and rooting for the underdog!
My heart! I just enjoyed this story so much.
Theo and Laney are beautiful together. From the moment they meet until the very end, they captured my heart. They have such an incredible connection and bond. I loved the way they met, the growth of their friendship, the slow build of their attraction, and they way they help each other grow.
Sometimes, our insecurities can get the best of us. Theo and Laney grow together and it’s beautiful to watch. There was so much feeling in this story and it’s written beautifully and with such care and detail. I enjoyed the humor and banter, the butterflies and hesitation, the vulnerability. I smiled, I laughed, my heart hurt, and I loved. What amazing characters and beautiful story that left a smile on my face.
“You’re something else, Houseman.”
“You’re everything else.”
I have to start out by saying I love, love, loved this book. It’s so nice to have the nice guy get the girl for once. The guy that is in the pep band and not the big jock on campus. I loved Theo from the beginning. Laney was a good character too but I really couldn’t relate with her. I thought she was kind of flighty although I though her and Theo together made a great couple. I guess because they were so opposite of each other. He was well grounded while she was up in the air all the time. Didn’t know what she wanted, while he knew exactly what he wanted. I did love that she was this independent country girl who would do anything and he was a city boy who didn’t really like to do the things she liked but was willing to do them for her. I have to say that this is one of my favorite books of 2019 and I can’t wait for Lance’s story or Troy’s. I’m hoping he can redeem himself in his book.
*sigh* Theo and Laney *sigh* So cute! Friends first. They really get to know each other and Laney finally isn’t blinded by her usual type and really opens up. Once they realize that they both have feelings for each other -BOOM- fireworks happen. Awesome characters, the hot chemistry and great humor make a fantastic book!
