I was in the middle of my divorce when Adam messaged me. I believe his exact words were, “Hi. I think you’re my dad’s brother. Would you like to get to know me?”My brother and I had never been close, so I’d only met his adopted son a few times when he was very young. Instinct told me to ignore the message, and I did. For a few days. It took an exhausting fight with my soon-to-be ex-wife and half … ex-wife and half a bottle of whiskey for me to change my mind.
Adam first became “sort of my nephew.” Next, he became the guy who helped me find an apartment in the building next to his. He was a sweet, cheerful young man doing his best to raise his four-year-old daughter, which led to him becoming the guy who wanted to help me patch up my relationship with my own daughter.
Then one night as I got ready for bed, I looked across the alleyway to the next building, where I saw him getting ready for bed too.
I couldn’t look away to save my life.
It was the night he also became the guy in the window.

The Guy in the Window
Cara Dee
Adam & Ev
I loved the story content
I was involved until the end.
I was nice seeing how Adam and Ev relationship progressed!
Another smash hit from Cara Dee. Fantastic. Fun. Sexy as heck.
Love, love, love the story between Ev and Adam!! I would have liked to seen more with Ev’s daughter and how it played out when she learned of her father’s relationship- a little too clean-cut.
I loved this. Age Gap with an opposites attract and a singles parents.
Hot, Sexy, Dirty, Funny, Sweet and plenty of Chemistry oh and also an adorable little girl named Bella.
Adam and Everett are pseudo Uncle and Nephew but they are 20years apart, I loved their dynamic and how their relationship started off a little rocky then to friends and finally lovers.
I wish there were more of these guys, they were just great.
I loved how two members of a family became closer after a marriage is dissolved . I loved how Cara portrayed Everett and Adam, how Grace matured and the enjoyment they had in forming a new family. I did feel sorry for Melinda and wondered how she lost ‘herself and her way’ so terribly.
4.5 Stars – A wonderful M/M romance.
This book proved once again for me why this author is my favorite storyteller when it comes to MM romances.
To be honest, I wasn’t so sure about how the story started off and if I would like where it was going. But boy was I in for a treat. I loved Adam’s straightforwardness and how he managed his life seemingly effortless. He was young but knew what he wanted and went for it.
Everett was a lot older than Adam, and one would expect he had his life figured out about now. But he was going through a nasty divorce and hasn’t found his footing as a single guy living on his own yet.
Adam and Everett couldn’t have been any more different. One was a young gay man, driven and always looking for a new challenge in life, with a small child to take care of, not bothering to date anyone yet. The other one was much older, straight and divorced from his long-time marriage, looking for a new place to stay, seemingly a little lost, with a teenage daughter he rarely saw or heard from apart from when she needed money.
As expected, it was a slow burn for a while since Everett wasn’t gay in the beginning. But I really loved how the story moved along. The interaction between the characters was so sweet and constantly building and growing. I rooted for them and cheered them on from the sidelines.
I loved how Adam pushed Everett in the best way and helped him break out of his shell to find the guy he once was but who got lost throughout the last years. They complemented each other perfectly.
4.25 Stars
After two and a half decades of marriage and at the age of forty-eight, Everett Scott is in the midst of a divorce and begins to reevaluate his choices and pursuits. Upon being contacted by his twenty-seven year old nephew, Adam, a standoffish dialogue slowly turns into a solid friendship. As Everett’s attraction to Adam deepens, it becomes clear they are both fighting feelings toward each other.
With Everett being more introspective, Adam brings a fresh perspective and a big heart to their relationship and this further creates a spark within Everett resulting in a harmonious balance. Additionally, their chemistry in the bedroom is combustible. As Everett explores his sexuality with Adam, there are no boundaries and the taboo element adds to the hotness.
What I enjoyed about this story is how both characters defined their own family and were no longer going to settle. Adam is so thoughtful and committed to raising his young daughter. Everett’s relationship with his own daughter added some conflict in the narrative, showing more of his need for reconciliation. Though I would have liked to know more about why the Scotts are estranged from their family, it didn’t necessarily detract from my overall enjoyment or the focus on Everett and Adam in the present.
The Guy in the Window is a M/M taboo romance that offers heart and plenty of steamy dirtiness. This book will appeal to those who enjoy age-gap themes and second chances.
Everett is getting a divorce and his life has been overturned. He feels distanced from his daughter, and finds himself at odds with what he expected his life to be and what it is now that he is no longer married, and his daughter barely acknowledges him. It is during this upheaval that he is contacted out of the blue by his brother’s adopted son, Adam. Everett hasn’t seen or thought of Adam in years, especially since he had cut all connections with his family, so he is surprised and confused as to why Adam would choose to contact him. After a few awkward messages, both men agree to meet, and discover that they have a lot in common starting with being single fathers of daughters. Their relationship develops naturally, and I liked that we get each character’s point of view, since it would have been hard to understand how their relationship takes the turn it takes with only one man’s experience. Even then, I still felt somewhat disconnected from Adam, and found Everett to be easier to relate to and understand. Adam is still a bit of a mystery to me, as a reader, although he is utterly sexy, interesting and a force of nature. Everett needs that intensity in his life, he needs Adam’s strength and ruthless sexiness to light a fire in his heart, since he has been living on autopilot for a very long time. The love scenes are amazing, incredibly sensual and explosive, bringing Everett’s newly found emotions and responses to the core, with Adam directing the discoveries. I loved their relationship, but I was left somewhat unsatisfied with what seemed to me the quick way certain obstacles were resolved. There was a lot of emotional tension in the plot of the story that was easily deflated by a few sentences, or resolved completely off scene, and it left me feeling meh about it. I really loved Everett, he is a sweet man, with a mildness to his character that I found very appealing, while Adam was impressive with his strength, candor and determination to be the best father he could be to his Double Trouble. They really complimented each other very well, and it made for an enjoyable read, despite the feelings of dissatisfaction.
Oh my! This book (my first by Cara Dee) was wonderfully surprising. This author does an outstanding job peeling away the layers of each of these main characters to tell their story and the journey they take in this novel is filled with lots of heat, humor and the all important HEA. Well-written supporting characters help move the story along. Cara Dee is a good writer and I’ll be looking to read more of her work. Highly recommend 🙂
I almost didn’t read this one as I usually don’t get into the GFY trope very much. After a friend messaged me and said I definitely needed to read it, I decided I’d better give it a try. I am so glad I did. This is a very, very good story. The chemistry between Everett and Adam is fantastic. Let’s not forget steamy. The humiliation play isn’t my cup of tea either, but it really wasn’t too bad in this one. There is also an age-gap between Everett and Adam, which did do it for me. All in all, this was a very good read and I totally enjoyed it. I do recommend giving this one a try.
Cara Dee writes the best MM romance stories. Evert and Adam are an unusual, but lovely couple. Evert is going through a divorce and struggling with his relationship with his daughter Grace, Adam is a single parent building a life for him and his daughter Bella, when they meet. They have some witty banter, sexy hot times, there’s some angst especial in the early days of their relationship as they work to get their heads round the more unusual aspects of their relationship.
I have one problem with this book, the epilogue. It ended too early, but I’ll let you read it yourself to see why. But may be it’s giving hope for a sequel.
So I started this book knowing it was an mm age gap story and couldn’t wait to get stuck in. As Everett and Adam met and their relationship developed I realised there was a kink that I would normally avoid but it’s Cara and she’s not steered me wrong yet so I kept going and oh boy am I glad I did. Everett is a 45yr old going through a divorce, while that’s part of the story its not a huge part, it’s more about Adam supporting him and their relationship developing. And oh my goodness, little Bella, Adams daughter. What sass! She’s so cute and brings something extra to this story.
It’s another of Cara’s books not to be missed.
i’ve always loved Cara Dee writing and this is one is no different.
Everett is going through a divorce and reunited with his adopted nephew Adam. Throughout the story you see Everett grow and try to find himself again after his marriage, with the help of Adam. I loved seeing these two together and wanted more the second the book ended.
the story is cheesy at times yes but the chemistry between the main characters is hot! I loved the taboo aspect, it gave it a little forbidden romance without being forbidden or totally taboo.
the only thing that i didn’t like was the italic text that would pop up and come from Adams perspective. i wish she would of kept with Everett’s pov.
one click buy. you won’t regret this steamy read!
This is a Cara Dee book, so of course it is well written and totally enjoyable. It’s a quick and easy read, perfect for a snowy night .
We meet Everett who is totally detached from his life, wife, daughter and even though he’s adapted, his work, basically just going through the motion of life until his wife asks for a divorce. We then follow him through his life change and his learning to become who he used to be and the lifting of the, blinders, I guess to become who he is meant to be with the help of his brother adopted son Adam who also has a scene stealing daughter Bella. Adam, being his younger nephew, who seems to Everett, so put together, knowing who he is and what he wants and so confident is how to achieve each goals he set out to accomplish somehow becomes the person to teach Everett to rediscover himself and his passion and in doing so, changing doormat life, to a life of passion, happiness and a few self discovering life altering kinks. By finally becoming himself he was able to rekindle his relationship with his daughter and find a happy balanced life.
As with any books from Cara, I want more! More interaction and growth from both men and more interactions with their girl and 100% more I’d Sven stealing Bella.
One click this book, you won’t regret it
Just finished reading this book and quite honestly can’t wait to do a reread. I absolutely loved everything about it. It was sweet, sexy and low on drama. But let me just say the steam factor was off the charts. Adam and his deliciously dirty talk was pure fire! And Everett, what can I say. I loved that he was so open to finally being happy and satisfied without any preconceived ideas of the package that came in. Loved, loved, loved!
In the midst of a divorce forty-five year old architect, Everett, reconnects with his nephew and ends up finding himself.
Sounds like something you’ve read before? That was my first reaction. But trust me, after reading this you will ask yourself, Noah who?
This book contains some of Cara’s (and mine) favorite tropes. Incest play (Adam is his nephew by adoption after all) Age play (Everett is almost twenty years Adam’s senior) Single Daddy (Bella, Adam’s four-year-old, is the most adorable thing ever. She’s a mini adult with a smart mouth and she seems to have everyone around her wrapped around her tiny fingers. You can’t even phantom! (heh)
Despite the seemingly repeats this doesn’t feel like anything I’ve ever read before.
And. It’s. So. Unbelievably. Sexy.
That cab ride… Adam’s give ‘topping from the bottom’ a new meaning.
I think this has to be the best book Cara has written so far.
Read it. I guarantee you will love every word.
Cara Dee blows me away every single time.
I almost don’t want to write a review because it could never say enough. The Guy in the Window is the emotionally charged but never heavy story of Everett, a recently separated architect and Adam, a hard working single father. Floundering in the early days of his divorce, Everett answers a Facebook message from an estranged nephew he forgot he had and the two eventually meet and become close friends. When Adam finds Ev an apartment across the alleyway, an accidental look into his nephew’s room at night kicks off an obsession, but is Ev alone in his feelings?
The Guy in the Window has this delicious feeling of an absolutely sinful taboo relationship without actually being taboo (I’m fine with taboo but some are not). Adam and Ev’s encounters are scorching, truly just gloriously written but that’s not all. The story is sweet and incredibly happy, new beginnings and easy acceptance of change. Another freaking winner from Cara Dee.
3.75*
