EVERYONE REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST LOVE…
BUT SOMETIMES IT’S THE SECOND LOVE THAT LASTS
This book weaves together the heart of Nicholas Sparks, the romance of Nora Roberts, and the charm of Debbie Macomber.
Fleeing her picture-perfect marriage among the privileged set of Brentwood and the wreckage of a failed marriage, Lily Parkins decides to move to the only place that still holds happy … to move to the only place that still holds happy memories, her grandmother’s old farmhouse. The lush and majestic setting of the Pacific Northwest calls to her and offers a place of refuge and perhaps renewal. Her grandmother has passed away, leaving the Madrona Island Bed & Breakfast Inn to Lily.
Left with only an old guestbook as her guide — a curious book full of letters, recipes, and glimpses into her family history — Lily is determined to embrace her newfound independence and recreate herself, one page at a time. With the help of the quirky island residents she has befriended, she slowly finds the strength to seek out happiness on her own terms. But as soon as she has sworn off men and is standing on her own two feet, Lily meets Ian, the alluring artist who lives next door, and her new life is suddenly thrown off course. The last thing she wants to do right now is to open her heart to another man.
Ultimately, Lily must decide if it’s worth giving up her soul for security or risking everything to follow her heart in this romantic love story.

This story is original in concept and interesting to read.
I loved the strength all of the female characters display throughout the story’s thread. All of the events shine true as well as the small town banding together to help one (be it a new member ) of their own.
I really liked the way the characters were developed- you learned to really care about what was happening in their lives, with the exception of Brad (you’ll have to read the book to find out who he is!). I also love a book that really moves along and doesn’t stagnate with unending descriptions of what something or someplace looks like, etc.- this …

Lily leaves her controlling husband Brad after she finds over one hundred text messages as proof of his affair. Lily escapes to Madrona Island on Puget Sound to an inn she’d recently inherited from her Grandma Maggie. At first Lily feels lost, but she begins to make good friends on the island. Lily also finds love when Ian McPherson comes to visit …
Very beautiful book
A very enjoyable read. I plan to go on to the next book, too.
You learned to love the characters and how the town people helped each other.
Not my normal cup of tea, but nice for an easy read and change of pace.
Easy to read
I enjoyed the story, but wondered why it took so long to decide to open the B&B
The book was okay, story was totally predictable. Seemed to be a lot of filler material discussing what to eat, how to make it, etc. would I recommend it? Probably not.
Sad and happy… Redeeming values.. characters well developed
Light reading, easy to like characters.
This was a great book! I couldn’t seem to put it down!
Easy to read page turner- you want to know what happens next. Descriptions transport you to the inn – the yard, inside rooms, even the baking. So believable that I wanted the brownie recipe at the end.
I enjoyed this book from 5he beginning. Nice to have characters from different age groups.
I read the whole series after the first one!
Good book.
What a delightful book! This author used her words wisely and effectively to paint a short picture of her story . Simplicity and true friendships are what this island has to offer. It will be trust building and healing for this emotionally weary woman.
