The stunning psychological thriller, perfect for fans of K. L. Slater, Teresa Driscoll, and Andrew Hart.

This novel is a psychological thriller which has complex characters, an intriguing plot, unexpected twists, mystery and a murder. While this book starts at a slow pace, it does build up to a shocking conclusion which you won’t see coming.

This is my first time reading something by this author. The summary of the book definitely caught my attention and I was intrigued. This is a wonderfully written psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat pretty much throughout the whole book – a definite page-turner for sure! There were many great plot twists throughout that I was anxiously turning the pages to see what would happen next. Great characters, well-developed, that really pull you in to the story. What a wild ride of a read!
This book started out as a family story of taking in a semi stranger to becoming a whodunit thriller.
A very good, easy page turner read.
I hope to read more from this Author.

I really enjoyed reading The Guest. It starts as a depiction of normal family who is suddenly facing two totally different situations: the father´s loss of his job and the introduction of an unkown male guest who happens to come to live in their house. The secrets behind the characters and their difficulties start to thicken as the plot develops and the ending is totally unexpected (and I loved it!). A well written story with a simple plot however masterfully built that leaves the reader aiming for the end so he/she will finally know who did it! Thoroughly enjoyable reading!

I enjoyed one of this author’s previous books, The Good Mother, so I was looking forward to this one. I liked how the author set the stage. A stranger with a tenuous friendship with a relative is invited to stay with the family. What could possibly go wrong? However, there was just way too much going on, and it all lacked focus. There were also a lot of details in odd places, and I just kept hoping that the seemingly disparate storylines would converge, and all make sense together. As it was, it was just okay. The story line was great, the character work was terrific and the book had a smooth flow to it. This was a great read that entertained from beginning to end. This is the first book by this author that I’ve read, but it won’t be the last.

Ellie is married with 2 children, loves her husband, owns a gallery that she loves. Looking in from the outside reveals a perfect life … but that’s deceiving.
Seth, her husband has become distant. If she didn’t know better, he could be having an affair. And then he invites a stranger, Ace, to stay in there house … for a week or so. Supposedly Ace is a friend of Seth’s cousin .. who Ellie has never heard of.
She finds herself attracted to the newcomer, but she also has a feeling of something not quite right.
A school acquaintance of her son is found murdered and she’s devastated to learn that the police suspect him. The murdered girl has been known to bully Brandon .. but she knows that he is innocent.
And then her gallery is broken into and a valuable painting is destroyed. She already suspects Ace of having a problem … but then she learns something so disturbing she contacts the police.
This is a stunning psychological thriller filled with angst and tension from the very first page. The characters are deftly drawn … warts and all. The ending was quite unexpected with truths revealed that left me almost breathless.
Many thanks to the author / Inkubator Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is showing as General Fiction/Mystery & Thriller, with the last line of the description being “stunning psychological thriller”. I would say the first 80% of this is general fiction while the last 20% is “thriller”. I felt like this was two separate books. One fiction and then a short thriller novel. I was disappointed as this being a thriller. A local high school girl is missing, then her body is found. This storyline is interwoven throughout the book. Then it becomes a fiction novel. Ellie’s husband Seth invites his cousin’s friend, Ace to come and stay for “a week or so”. That becomes longer than a week. Seth is acting distant and has lost his job. Ellie is starting to feel uncomfortable in her feelings for Ace. This part of the story was boring for me. I went in thinking this was a thriller. Then we get to the end and it gets better. I figured out what was going on. If you are new to thrillers, this might be ok, but if you are looking for heart pounding, page turning, can’t put down, this is not for you.
