The Favor
Lady Clarissa would rather become a nun than face another arranged marriage—the fate her cruel father will undoubtedly foist on her now that her elderly husband has secured an annulment. She knows Aidan de Sowlis, the man she left, is the last person she should ask for help, yet he’s the only one she trusts. Aidan and Clarissa soon discover their feelings for each other are as strong as ever, but her father would never approve, and his cooperation is crucial for securing peace on the border. Do they dare risk it for love?
The Guardian’s Favor is a historical romance set in 13th century Northumbria along the Anglo-Scottish border. If you like strong female heroines, alpha-male heroes, and sizzling romance, you’ll love this ninth installment of the Border Series.

I finally stopped reading this-it just felt it never moved on. The same issue kept being discussed but not acted upon. I was very disappointed since I have really enjoyed the other Cecelia Mecca books in the Border series.
As with all the previous books in the series, this historical Scottish romance encompasses all the elements that make up an engrossing love story. The novel is well written with a strong, protective hero and the damsel in distress may need help, but is no shrinking violet. Lady Clarissa knows that she has to escape her father before he finds out that her ex-husband has filed for an annulment of their marriage, otherwise she is likely to find herself in another despicable union. When the Scot Aidan de Sowlis arrives for a meeting with her father, she grabs the opportunity presented to her by asking for his aid in making her escape. Their previous meeting is still fresh in their minds and the attraction they experienced as young star crossed lovers is still as strong as ever. Whilst Aidan will do what it takes to make Clarissa his wife and to keep her safe, Clarissa knows that the peace of the area will be in further jeopardy should she choose him. Her mind made up, Clarissa makes her plans to join a convent. However, nothing goes to plan and it takes her father’s duplicity to make the lovers realise that they have to make their own choices regarding their future. Whilst this novel is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion, it is obvious that there is still more to come which will leave readers of Ms Mecca very happy. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
