TAKE THE LEAPShe’s got her feet planted on the ground. He’ll teach her to fly.Jessica, a curvy, driven, neat freak lawyer, is ecstatic when she finally gets her dream job—even though it’s taking her away from her hometown. When she meets over-the-top, man-mountain Mikey, a fitness buff and veterinarian with a messy life in all senses of the word, she thinks she just walked into the second-most … the second-most exciting adventure of her life.
His larger-than-life personality fascinates her, but also shakes the foundations of her quiet, introverted self, knocking her off-kilter. It’s a bad idea to let him take her on as a weight-loss client. It’s an even worse idea to get involved with him since he’s her manwhore roommate…and she’s seen him in action.
If they give into their undeniable attraction, is it just a train wreck waiting to happen? Or will their desire fuel a chance at real love?
If you love steamy romance, be sure to check out the fourth standalone in the Giving You series.

This is a fun read that deals with a couple heavy issues on addiction. I enjoyed both the characters and I feel confident that many women can relate to the female role. This becomes a journey of self discovery and possibly finding love. Love of self and love of others.
I loved Mikeys animals at home and his crazy names for them. He seemed like such a free spirit. I didn’t realize the secrets he was harboring. He really came around and even did some growing himself.
This is my first book by this author. She did a good job bringing me Into the plight of the female lead. I cared about these two. My only issue was a timeline. I was curious how long it took her to accept herself and Mikey. Maybe it was mentioned and I missed it. I did listen to this on audio. Tor Thom and Charley Ongel were the narrators. They did a great job putting emotion into these characters.
Leslie McAdam has a way with words and stories like no other. The Ground Beneath our Feet is no exception. Leslie always handles real life issues and struggles with such care. Tor Thom is one of my favorites and he portrayed Mickey and his struggles perfectly. While Charley really brought Jessica’s story to life. Narration is so important when delivering this type of emotional read and both were amazing. Thank you Leslie for giving me all the feels.
Finding yourself maybe the best path to happiness
This one felt a little personal to me. I relate to the issues Jessica has with her body. I loved her journey to loving herself. Mikey is just delicious. Another injured soul who tries to help others. And the managerie of animals. Of course, cameos from the other fabulous women & men of this bookiverse. Absolutely phenomenal!
The Ground Beneath Our Feet is my first book by Leslie McAdam. This is Jessica and Mikey’s story and its the 4th book in the series although it can be read as a standalone. These two had chemistry from the start but both had issues that needed to be dealt with. The author did a great job of making the characters very relatable and providing detailed descriptions which further drew you into the story. Jessica had body issues and I loved the supportive friends she made in Santa Barbara. Apart from body issues the author also successfully tackled alcoholism and abuse. What I loved mostly was the willingness to get help when it was needed. I listened to the Audio version of this book narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel and I loved it. This is a definite must read
The Ground Beneath Our Feet is a sultry romance about two different people healing each other and learning to love themselves. Jessica is a character who is real and relatable. I saw myself in her in more ways than one. Not only does Leslie McAdam write wonderful characters, she writes some extremely sexy bedroom scenes…sometimes they aren’t even in the bedroom! I will definitely be checking out the other 3 standalones in the Giving You series.
4 Star review of The Ground Beneath Our Feet by Leslie McAdam
Audio Review:
Narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel this was a good story and their performance certainly enhanced my enjoyment of the story. The chemistry between Tor Thom and Charley Ongel is immediately obvious and this makes listening that much more enjoyable.
Dr. Michael Tate sounds like my kind of man and he ticked the boxes for me. What a way to meet a man, Jessica walks in on Mikey in a compromising position which makes things a tad awkward with her new roommate .
This was a fun book that centred around several serious issues and I felt that Leslie McAdam handled it well and it certainly added layers to the story line.
Both Jessica and Mikey struggle with demons from their past and both need to face them if they are going to move forward. The issues they face are real and I think that it is the way the author humanizes them that had be invested in their story.
The chemistry between the characters was intense and the narrators did a good job in getting this across to the reader
Learning to love yourself
You know you’ve connected with a book when you’re in tears, messaging the author with all the praise in the world … The Ground Beneath our Feet by Leslie McAdam is that book for me. The story of Jessica and Mikey is so much more than a curvy woman and a fit man, of a lawyer and a veterinarian… this story will make you confront some harsh truths about the way society views women and in particular, what a “perfect” woman should look like. The inner voices and self criticism Jessica has is something that I really identified with – which was actually a very emotional and cleansing experience for me. I love a book that pushes me emotionally and this is one that definitely did that.
I don’t wish to spoil the plot line and key themes too much because they are something that are best experiences first hand by reading the book (and I could never do them the kind of justice Leslie does anyway). So instead I’ll tell you that this is a book that might make you feel uncomfortable, this is a book that will either resonate with you or will feel so far removed for your life experiences that you just won’t “get it”… and know that anything you feel is fine. That’s the point – one which both Jessica and Mikey have to come to terms with – until you learn to love yourself, to own your past, to own your body, to own the person you are right now… you can’t possibly be ready to let anyone else in.
(And on a totally different and “fun” tangent….as I’ve just read all four books in the Giving You series I LOVED LOVED LOVED Jessica meeting all the women from the previous books – Amelia, Marie and Lucy – and the friendship she formed with them… it was PERFECTION!!!! And I’m such a fan of authors who are able to link their books like this so we can get little updates on previous couples as well as have them connect authentically with the current storyline).
I implore you to go and read this book, to fall in love with Jessica and Mikey… and I hope, fall in love with yourself a but more too along the way.

I love the Giving You Series. I couldn’t wait for the fourth installment, The Ground Beneath Our Feet and it did not disappoint! There are absolutely no words to describe for the cover. It’s is sexy as sin. The story itself stirred up a million emotions. It pulled at my heart strings and left me content. It’s a sexy, feel good-story with heart!
Jessica has made the decision to accept her dream job and move to Santa Barbara, even though she’ll be leaving her mother and brothers behind. She finds a home to share with none other than Dr. Doolittle, aka Mikey the sexy Veterinarian. Mikey and Jessica’s initial introduction is doozy. Jessica quickly classifies Mikey as a manwhore. Mikey is attracted to Jessica and ready to change his life by letting go of his booty calls. He slowly finds ways to sneak into Jessica’s heart but will that be enough when he finally reveals his past?
Jessica and Mikey are flawed. They both have found unhealthy ways to escape the pain of their pasts. Their struggles are intense, raw and emotional. I loved every minute of this story. It’s sexy and real. 5 Stars!
I’m actually giving this story a 4.5, we’re faced with serious matters wrapped into a beautiful story. Jessica is a woman that is self conscious about her weight, yes she is what the doctors consider obese but to those around her she is gorgeous. She does have an issue with using good as her escape for both good and bad events in her life and that just breaks my heart. Mikey is said to be a “man-whore” but there’s so much more to this man than meets the eye, Mikey is dealing with his own battles ever single day that will never fade and let him move past. Jessica is introduced to Mikey in an unforgettable way when she rents a room from him when she accepts a new job at a law firm. As soon as he catches a glimpse of Jessica his whole demeanor changes for the better, he wants to be better, so better and the way he encourages and is there for her just shows you he cares. I love how he’s breaking her out of her comfort zone more and more each day with the little things he says and does. There’s an undeniable attraction between these two but stays at a roommate level. As we get deeper into the story more is revealed about the pasts of both Jessica as well as Mikey and I had tears in my eyes hearing what took place. Jessica said “when you shine the light on something you see the truth, there are no lies in the light. The problem with the truth is that it isn’t always pretty…” I think those words speak volumes and we see it throughout the story in so many ways. This was a beautifully written heartfelt and sexy read and I highly recommend you one click your copy. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
