I was sucked into this authors writing when I picked up Tru Blue. The stories in this series aren’t your easy going, boy meets girl, love at first sight, with a few speed bumps in the way of their HEA. Nope. These stories show the harsh, raw truth about the dirty side of life. Life isn’t east. It isn’t pretty, and these stories are real! If I could give this book, this series 10 stars, I would. They are just that amazing!
Quincy has had a hard life, has made some really bad choices, and makes no excuses for them. He knows he hit rock bottom, and is doing everything he can to become the man he wants to be, the man he can be proud of. It’s not easy, but it’s what he has to do, for himself.
Roni’s life has been one hard knock after another. Just when she thought all of dreams were coming true, she was knocked back down to the bottom. But hard work and perseverance pay off, and she has her life back on the right path. Dreams change, but she is happy.
Quincy and Roni are amazing! These two, hit me right in the feels! No matter what is thrown at them, they still make it work! My heart hurts for them, but at the same time, I know that the hard paths they’ve led, have brought them together, made them who they are. Their story is one about love, family, support, and overcoming life’s adversities. It’s a story that is real. An absolutely perfect! There just isn’t another way to say it!
Melissa Foster is my Queen of Romance.
The Gritty Truth has left me on an emotional high. I absolutely adored Quincy and Roni, I was completely enraptured in them and I devoured this in a matter of hours. They were the perfect couple.
It will tug your heart strings and leave you raw. Quincy is smouldering sexiness and Roni is just down right gorgeous.
Omg panty melting hotness and ovaries exploding goodness.
I just finished reading the last word of The Gritty Truth (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, #7) by Melissa Foster. Let me finish wiping my eyes so I can see through my tears. And they are definitely happy tears! When we met Quincy in Tru Blue we hoped he’d have his own story. And I’m so glad he did! Quincy has gone through so many hardships in his life and with the love and support of his family and friends, he’s overcome them all. He’s come out as an honest, caring, compassionate man who after seeing Veronica “Roni” Wescott at an auction, he knows she’s the woman for him. Roni is a dancer who has had her own share of struggles in her past, and they’ve left her very shy and reserved. After several months of texting and getting to know one another, Quincy and Roni finally have their first date and it couldn’t have been any more perfect!
I loved getting to know Quincy and Roni throughout this story. They will take you through the lowest lows and the highest highs, all within the pages of this book. You will literally laugh, cry, ugly cry, and then smile so big your face will hurt as you read through their story. And you will wish you had friends like the Whiskey crew! They are all so amazing!
Melissa Foster writes stories in a way that brings the characters to life within the pages of her books. You can’t go wrong with any book she writes!
Find a comfy seat where you enjoy reading, maybe include a glass of ice water for all the super hot sexy scenes and definitely include a box of tissues. Get ready to cry sad and happy tears.
Veronica “Roni” Wescott devoted her life from a very young age to a dancing career. She attended Julliard and was dancing with a New York dance company when disaster struck. A car accident ended her professional dancing career. Roni is happy teaching dance classes at the dance studio On Your Toes where she took dance classes as a child. Roni’s life changed again when her friend Angela and their friends won her a date with Quincy Gritt at a charity auction. Roni was very attracted to Quincy but wasn’t ready to date him. Quincy slowly broke down her barriers by texting her regularly especially as support when her grandmother died. He’s such a flirt and oh-so sweet! Since Roni is Quincy’s niece Kennedy’s dance teacher Roni would see him occasionally when Quincy picked up Kennedy. Finally Roni let down her barriers and the romance and light of Quincy enveloped Roni. Sigh! She never imaged…
Quincy Gritt is a recovering drug addict. The first nine years of his life his older brother Truman helped shield him from the ugliness of their mother’s drug addiction. When Truman went to prison for a crime he didn’t commit when Quincy was thirteen, Quincy’s life really fell apart. That’s when his mother dragged him into a life of drug addiction. Now he is two years clean and ready to pursue the woman he has unexpectedly fallen for. There’s just something about Roni Wescott that he can’t resist. She is different from any other woman he has met. Quincy is sure they are perfect for each other. Convincing Roni to stick with him after he tells her about his past is going to be the hard part to get through.
The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster is the seventh book in the author’s Dark Knights of Peaceful Harbor series. Ms. Foster writes deeply emotional, rip-your-heart-out stories. This book is no exception. The characters are very realistic and just about jump off the page with their dynamic personalities. The dialogue between Roni and Quincy is insightful and conscience-raising. These types of conversations also occur throughout the book between the two main characters and the secondary characters who care about them. You can feel the love all around. I loved the inclusion of all the Dark Knights and their friends. This is a group of protectors, people who really care. Melissa Foster has a way of putting into words the ugliness of the real world and also the wonder and love of the real world. She writes scenes that tear at your heartstrings and scenes that fill you with warmth. So if you are looking for a hard-hitting story filled with reality and tough times and then wonderful times you have found what you are looking for.
Melissa Foster is always surprising… Each book is different from the other and this book I have to tell you that I was really looking for after reading Tru Blue (the first book of the Whiskey series).
Quincy is Tru’s younger brother, who is a recovering drug addict and has been through hell until he found his food with his brother and the Whiskeys. They are now a family. Quincy is working, studying and keeping his life simple to fight for his recovery and maintain his sobriety.
He meets Roni, his niece ballet teacher and their connection is immediately. However, neither are ready to romance and they decide to keep it simple and communicate by text. They text for months until they are ready to really date. This story is so beautiful because it shows Quincy and Roni as two hurt souls that by meeting each other heal together and it is very true to show how difficult the recovery journey is.
Quincy is a darling beautiful person inside out and Roni is an amazing soul and partner to him.
You will cry, laugh, cry again and be happy for this couple at the end of the book!
I loved it!
Wow! What a beautiful, raw and emotional story that packed an even bigger punch to the heart than I anticipated. There is so much warmth, sweetness, sexiness and joy that comes along with all the difficult feelings as Melissa Foster yet again found the perfect balance like she always seems to do.
I knew Quincy’s and Roni’s story was going to be something pretty special and I also knew I would fall hard for this man who is finally on the upswing of his difficult life, but nothing really prepared me for what transpired on these pages. I love both of them so much. They both have tragic pasts and together they will heal emotionally and be everything the other needs and more. The way the Whiskey family and his brother Truman champion for Quincy is so uplifting and heartwarming. And those little ones, Kennedy and Lincoln, they really get to me! They are so completely adorable and funny giving some much needed comedic relief!! Roni’s acceptance of all his truths proves just how special she is and how much she loves him and how worthy he is of all of that love. Roni and Quincy may not be perfect but they are perfect for each other!!!!
Every moment of this book held my total attention; I was so riveted and taken on the most amazing ride. I loved every minute of this book!
Oh what a web. Life is hard. Life is especially hard when you don’t have a good childhood. Some people should NEVER have children. Quincy had such a childhood. How he is so centered is beyond me. Roni had a different type of difficult childhood. They are both some of the strongest people I have ever read about. A fabulous Whiskey book.
Where to start and what to say about this very special read.
The Gritty Truth is book 7 in The Whiskey’s: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor and I was excited to back in the town I have come to love. It’s a fun, entertaining stand-alone love story featuring loyal, extremely hot alphas and smart, sassy heroines and I highly recommend it to all romance lovers.
Quincy Gritt is a recovering drug addict, he fights his demons on a daily basis but 5 months clean and a charity auction where he won a date with the smart, sassy Roni has him loving life.
Roni also has baggage she would rather forget but it’s when her grandmother who raised her passes away she finds herself sinking more into herself and she constantly refuses to go on the date with Gritt, she feels unworthy of love but she doesn’t given the man who won a date with her enough credit, can Gritt convince Roni she is worthy of love or will his pass come back to break them……
You know you have read a very special story when the characters and their journey stays with you long after the final words have been read, and that exactly what this book did to me. I found myself cheering this couple on, I wanted them to get the HEA they so deserved, I smiled, I sighed and I loved catching up with all the residents of this wonderful town. Can’t wait for more in the series that has me feeling like I’m catching up with friends.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
This is the 7th book in the series and we get a better understanding of Quincey’s past and what he has been through. As he tries to move past his demons, he is falling for a dancer who is the teacher of Kennedy’s dance class.
Former dancer Veronica “Roni” Wescott has been a dancer for as long as she can remember. It was the one thing to take all the bad things out of her head when she needed too. Now the thing stuck in her head is Quincey Gritt and Roni wants more than to dance with the sexy man she won a date with five months ago. But she doesn’t want to get too involved.
When Roni finally gives in and goes out with Quincey, the sparks fly and the heat sizzles below the surface. These two just might combust before anything ever happens. As they grow closer together, Quincey has to confess his past to her. He hopes it doesn’t make her run the other way but she has a right to know. After all, she told him about her lift threatening wreck that cost her her dancing career.
This story is fun, sexy, fast-paced, and filled with the Whiskey family and Dark Knights MC. It has everything that has kept this series going and so much more. Once you get started you do not want it to end because you feel like you are with the family. I would recommend reading the complete series but definitely reading book 1, Tru Blue which is Truman’s story and you get some of Quincey’s back story too. So sit back and enjoy the ride that is The Whiskeys.
**Wicked Reads Review Team**
The Gritty Truth is the next installment in the Whiskey series by Melissa Foster and quickly became my favorite. Quincy had a rough life from birth, but he eventually took control and beat back “the beast.” Roni thought that she lost her dream after a horrific accident. But, with Quinn’s help, she discovered new dreams and the love of a lifetime.
Melissa Foster’s writing was spectacular and the story line was as real as it gets. Quincy’s road to recovery was filled with love, support, and a great inner strength. Ms Foster really captured the struggle of addiction and I was held captive by this story from the first page! Amazing read
*4.5-5 Stars*
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve been very curious about Quincy’s book since I read Tru Blue, and throughout the books about The Whiskey’s. Tru Blue is one of my favourites, so I shouldn’t be surprised that Quincy’s book was amazing as well.
It was really interesting to get the other side of the story, after reading Tru’s side. Those boys had really been dealt a short hand, and I wanted to Quincy to get his HEA just like Tru did. I really really liked both Roni and Quincy, and their story was both emotional and lots of fun.
I loved how honest Quincy is, and how much love and goodness he has about him, despite his past. Roni has her own issues from her past, and he supports her in those as well. There is so much love in this book, not just between our two main characters, but between all their family and friends. This series about the Whiskey’s is one of my favourites, and I wish they were people I could truly meet in real life.
I had lots of emotions reading this, even times where I had a tear or two running down my face. But there were lots of funny moments too that brought plenty of smiles. I really enjoyed this one, and there are a couple of books coming which were set up in this too, and I look forward to those.
Really enjoy this series, and recommend!
Quincy and Roni
Omg! This story destroyed me then put me back together. I already ADORED this series (my favorite Melissa Foster series) and I was so happy to get the chance to ARC read this one!
Coukd there be a more inspiring couple than Quincy and Roni? Both of them had to overcome such huge obstacles on their individual paths to happiness and then, just when their paths have converged, BAM! Another blow that leaves them (and you) reeling right along with them.
If you haven’t read The Whiskeys series you should start today (it’s Friday when I’m writing this, so there’s still a few days till The Gritty Truth releases).
***5 “I Want Us to Be a Given” & “Booful” Stars***
Truth: Ever since meeting Quincy in Tru Blue, I was wondering if he would ever get his own HEA, so to say I was all kinds of happy to get my hands on this book is an understatement
(And, yes, I was all kinds of happy that it also meant that I would get more Truman because he’s all kinds of bookboyfriendgoodness) and I was not disappointed at all.
I was surprised ~ pleasantly so ~ and my cheeks hurt from all the grinning, and I did get sniffly and teary at certain points ~ but I loved getting to know Quincy and meet the girl who brought him to his knees.
I adored Quincy and Roni. Quincy has been to hell and back and has truly come out stronger for it. He’s sweet, compassionate and honest, but what I loved the most about him was how he didn’t hide from those he called his own. Roni is a sweetheart. She is something of an enigma because it’s hard to put her in a box. She’s naive about some things and way too worldly about others, but she has this will to live that rivals most.
Their journey to their HEA was all kinds of fun. A lot of what made it a ‘grinning so much it made my cheeks hurt grin was that they were both on the same learning curve when it came to figuring things out. I loved their flow. Their bantering was on point, chemistry off the charts and I loved how they truly communicated with each other about the things that mattered the most. They definitely had things to work through, and there were a couple of situations that even surprised me, but I loved how everything worked out for them.
But of course, as much as I loved Quincy and Roni, I cannot deny that getting to hang out with the Whiskey’s, Dark Knights and their friends and family made me all kinds of happy. Kennedy and Lincoln kinda stole the show in this one, but I loved catching up with all of them and just seeing how their relationships have grown and changed as time has gone on. And as for what’s coming up next in the Whiskey world…I’m all about Penny and Scott, but it’s Diesel I can’t wait to get my hands on because that man is all kinds of broody goodness!

Well Melissa Foster does it again. She brings you on the best emotional rollercoaster with her books and this is no different. You will laugh and cry and swoon. I think this book is the most emotional on yet from Melissa but it will be all worth it for the ending. If you have read Tru Blue, you will have met Quincy in that book. This book is two years later. It was so much fun hanging with the Whiskey clan in this book. Dixie is still my favorite, that chick rocks! You will of course fall in love with Quincy and Roni and everyone else you meet in this book. You can read this book as a stand alone but all of her books are awesome so please read more than just this one. Too bad fictional worlds were not real. I would love to be friends with all of these amazing characters.
*I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion*
‘The Gritty Truth’ is the fantastic seventh book in the Dark Knights Peaceful Harbour series by Melissa Foster, and it is one of those books where you finish reading and feel awfully sad it’s over.
I have been excitedly awaiting Quincy Gritt’s story ever since he was first introduced in ‘Tru Blue’, and ever since, whenever snippets of his progress have featured in other books in this series, I have pondered what his Happily Ever After would look like.
Quincy is a recovering addict and has his life on track. He has purpose, he has an abundance of love surrounding him, and all feels right in the world. He has been patiently awaiting his two year anniversary for being clean, in order to ask the girl of his dreams out in a date.
Roni is a dancer, she loves teaching children how to dance and is recovering from a car accident that shattered her dreams as well as her heart. She mourns the loss of her Grandmother, but finds solace in the man who sends her cheeky texts and sets her body alight with tingles.
Their connection is strong, the chemistry undeniable, and Quincy pursues her, ensuring that she no longer refuses his dates. He’s in it for more than attraction, he’s in it for love, and Roni very much makes him feel emotions he’s never embraced before.
With obstacles in their way, and insecurities, will they overcome challenges and give in to their happily ever after?
This book made for an incredible read, and I cannot put into words how utterly adorable and amazing Quincy is. He has a huge heart, and his story is raw, honest and emotional. As a reader you feel like you are fighting his will to remain clean alongside him, and you really want for him to succeed. Foster writes in a way that is truly beautiful, and I applaud her for always covering delicate topics in such and incredibly inspirational way. Quincy is by far one of my favourites, and his moments with Biggs and Red, Truman and Ronni are so heartfelt that it was hard not to feel emotionally affected.
I am so invested in these characters, and the descriptions enable me to vividly imagine all of them like a soap opera playing out in my mind. Perfect read for anyone wanting to try a new series, or read a good standalone. It’s a book for all, and I just love all of Fosters characters and their fictional worlds.
5 Star Review of The Gritty Truth (The Whiskeys: The Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbour #7) by Melissa Foster
This was one of the most emotional reads I have read in this series; what a roller coaster of a ride. I was captivated from the first to the last chapter. I love this series, the characters are so well developed and Melissa Foster’s writing so descriptive that I feel as though I am a part of the Whiskey family, their friends and Peaceful Harbour.
This is Quincy Gritt and Veronica (Roni) Wescott’s story and oh what a story it was. As I have come to expect from a Melissa Foster story, this was extremely well written and was an absolute pleasure to read.
Both Quincy and Roni have been through difficult journeys and at times The Gritty Truth was a confronting read. Particularly watching how hard Quincy has fought to overcome his demons and drugs, he has come such along way. I loved how Quincy helped Roni with her grief when her grandmother died leaving her feeling alone and lost.
As friendship develops into passion and love, neither realize that Quincy’s past is about to come thundering back to haunt him and in doing so put their happiness at risk. Will Quincy go back to his old ways or will the love that Roni has for him be enough to keep him in the light and away from the darkness of his past?
I was impressed with Quincy in putting it all on the table so that Roni knew what she was getting into. It took a strong, brave man to lay it all on the line, after all his past has shaped the man he has become. I loved even more that Roni accepted him and took a chance.
These two belong together and I was cheering for them to get the happiness that they both so desperately deserved.
WOW WOW WOW what a story! I was an emotional mess at some points. You will ugly cry so I strongly suggest you have tissues on hand.
Quincy had the WORST childhood. As guilt ate at him as a young man, thanks to his Mom he turned to drugs. I never would have thought he could pull himself out of it. However, he did it, he redeemed himself in a huge way.
Roni was an amazing dancer until one night her life was turned upside-down when a drug deal gone wrong took her dream away.
Quincy is as confident as Roni is shy. They both had grown up in tough neighborhoods. I strongly suggest you have tissues. You are definitely going to need them. Although Quincy had a really rough past he turned out to be a strong, confident and loving person. I am so happy he got his happy ending. You will love him as much as I did.
I always loved revisiting the rugged men of Peaceful Harbor.
Wow, so much to say about this newest book by Melissa Foster and not give away any spoilers! Gonna be tough. I was personally reluctant to read this because of two reasons, 1-I hadn’t read Tru’s book until right before getting this one and 2-I wasn’t emotionally ready to read them. But, I am so thankful that I did read Tru’s book and now Quincy’s. Such a beautiful story or recovery, love, and family. Who could want for anything more? Melissa does a fantastic job of writing. Her characters are beautiful, smart, sassy, sexy, and oh so loving. I forgot to mention they typically face very real troubles while managing to find love and the courage to overcome/meet their demons head on. This story is so full of love and support from family and friends, it is just amazing. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. *****
You think you know heartache, then someone shows you just how wrong you were. The Gritty Truth is a shake up of epic proportions. Foster throws emotions into overdrive with two dreamers who have forgotten how to dream. Quincy and Roni are a testament to great storytelling. He’s the wise guy trying to live down his mistakes. She’s the good girl trying to break free. Their story goes against everything the heart tells us to love, but somehow Foster finds a way to make us glad we did.
The Gritty Truth (The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, #7) by Melissa Foster Let me just say I LOVED THIS BOOK. Quincy and Roni’s story tore my heart out then mended it again. So much involved in this story…angst, addition and recovery, lost and found dreams, some absolutely wonderful family and friends, adorable children, laughter, tears and plenty of steam (I cried ugly tears trying to read the last few chapters) all getting us to a very HEA. This book can be read as a stand-alone but make yourself happy and read the series.
