And then there’s Charlie Hunnam–lookalike Quincy Gritt—the man whose late-night texts pulled her through her grief and have been setting her heart aflutter for months.
Quincy pulls out all the stops, determined to prove that their friendship is only the beginning of what’s destined to be so much more. Romantic nights lead to smoldering passion and a deep connection too strong to be denied. But when Quincy’s past comes back to haunt him, can he and Roni accept their new gritty truth, or will Quincy spiral back into the darkness and lose the future he fought so hard to have?

This story was a heart-wrenching read that was so emotional and gripping that it tares out your insides as well as your heart but, it also had you believing in happily ever after and love. The story had us grinning a lot and laughing out loud a time or two, and we love it when that happens.
Quincy was a man who was sexy and honest to a fault and a man who was loved by many and was the kind of man who loved back just as deeply in return. The man had a horrific childhood and life but, his brother was the one who always had his back but, he may have lost his way for a while but, he is back and stronger than ever. We loved than the man was honest to a fault and was also patient kind and loving and a man who was ready to put the past behind him and meanwhile helping others get their lives back on track as well as a mentor to others. This sexy hunk was just one of those characters that you instantly fall in love with as you are attracted to his honesty, kindness, and that big heart of his and he was just an all-around nice guy who owned up to his past mistakes and chose to deal with his guilt and demons and wanted to create a better life that was filled with love happiness and friendship and family. We loved his panty-melting smile of his.
Roni was a woman easy to love. We found her shyness to be cute and endearing but, we loved seeing her blossom right before our eyes as well. Although her experience growing up was not as horrific as Quincy she on some level was able to relate when it came to living in a not-so-safe environment. I loved that she was willing to take a risk where Quincy was concerned and that she chose to educate herself and was willing to emerge herself in his world. We loved that she did not walk away from the awesome and amazing chemistry that she had with Quincy. Roni has suffered pain and had her dreams crushed but, she is a survivor as well and although her path is different now, and so are her dreams her love and passion for dance have been kept alive just redirected but, her tragic past lead her some new hopes and dreams she never thought possible before.
Overall the story had amazing characters that we absolutely loved and one that tugged on one’s emotions and heartstrings but, it also made us laugh and cry as well as shedding some tears. This couple’s connection and chemistry were stronger than ever, and we felt like they were each other’s perfect match in every way. A touching story that we fell hopelessly in love with.

It’s been awhile since Melissa Foster has broken my heart in one of her books, but she managed to do that with this story. The convoluted happenstance that occurred two years ago, wreaked havoc on both Roni and Quincy’s lives. Who would’ve thought fate would bring them together and then force them to relive that time of their lives.
For a recovering addict, Quincy has an amazing grip on life and his sobriety. Roni had to overcome physical trauma and learn how to walk again. As a dancer, and a profession one at that, the mental stress had to be overwhelming. She’s scared and nervous, but Quincy is her rock. Will they withstand the havoc that happened two years ago when it rears its ugly head?
This is a very emotional book that pulled at my heart strings. If you read Truman’s story, you will remember Quincy. Poor Truman and Quincy had such a hard childhood. I couldn’t stand their mother and what she did to her sons. I am so glad Quincy had Truman for most of his childhood until their awful mother stepped in. Quincy has been clear of drugs for two years now. I loved that he wanted to get to know Roni better, but started out with friendship and texting back and forth. I admired how strong Roni was and how she rose above some of the tragic things she went through. I was happy to see her teaching children how to dance now. The children were adorable! Quincy has such a big heart and goes out of his way to help others. It was so sweet how he put together a date for Roni. It made my heart feel good that Roni stood by him after he told her about his past and his recovery. I love children, and Ms. Foster couldn’t have made Kennedy and her brother Lincoln any more adorable than they were! The Dark Knights are such a wonderful and loving group of people. They are all just one big family and will do anything to protect and help people. It was so nice watching Quincy and Roni fall in love and how they supported each other. There is a part that broke my heart so you might want some tissues ready. If this book doesn’t touch your heart, then nothing will. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
THE GRITTY TRUTH by Melissa Foster. Well, she’s done it again! Absolutely WOWed me! This story took my breath away. There are so many emotions and ups and downs and Ms. Foster takes the reader through each one. This story makes you feel it all – the good, the bad, the ugly and the pretty – all of it. I adored both characters – Roni hasn’t had it easy but still shines bright. Quincy, boy, did he have it rough but is now working towards the light. Together they are magical! Ms. Foster has such a knack for writing tales that elicit so much emotion and this one is not the exception. My heart hurt, my heart leapt with joy, my heart cracked and then was put back together again. Quincy and Roni’s journey is not necessarily an easy one, yet their love shone brightly. This story has been long awaited and I can honestly say, I was not disappointed. Ms. Foster has outdone herself with THE GRITTY TRUTH. (received arc for honest review)
When we first encounter Quincy in Tru Blue, he’s frankly a mess. No one wants to believe a child could be brought up in such conditions, but it is Quincy’s reality. When children live with an addict frequently, they seek to numb the pain that the situation brings. After enough trauma, even the most stalwart of children break. Quincy held out as long as he could, but addiction got him. Now it is years later, and Quincy is clean and sober, and this book not only his love story but a celebration of recovery.
Quincy has been building a relationship with Roni for several months. Although he would love more, he’s learned that just as recovery takes time, building healthy relationships take time too. Roni has her reasons for taking things slow, the greatest being shyness and insecurity. Quincy then shows us all romance personified. He also shows us that family is more than blood, that true friendship stands solidly at your back when the storms hit, and that nothing compares to the tangible love of a brother. If you weren’t crazy for Tru after Tru Blue, you will love him even more now.
Amidst the joy that is the love story between Quincy and Roni, we get a peek at Scott and Penny’s story and hints of Diesel’s story. All swirled up with keeping us up with what is going in the Whiskey world. There are laughter and tears in this book; what I appreciate about it most is the reliable look at NA. I would have suggested AlAnon for Roni, and who knows, she might start a group after a while. She did a lot of research and was hugely supportive of Quincy’s sobriety; she would probably be an excellent resource for others.
The Gritty Truth was a fantastic read, and yet another reason everyone should take a journey to the worlds of Melissa Foster.
The story of how the Whiskeys and all others have made Quincy and Roni a part of their family is as intense as the relationship between Roni and Quincy themselves. Love overflows in this beautiful story. If you have read any of the previous books in The Whiskeys series you know Quincy’s history. Whether you have or you haven’t, it is extremely powerful when he lays it all out for Roni. We do learn some new details and the incredible way they are weaved into this story by Melissa Foster is a credit to her writing. You will have emotional highs and lows as you read. The last few chapters are both heart wrenching and heartwarming. Truly a 10 star read.
Oh wow, oh, wow, so much emotion!
This gem is the story of Quincy and Roni. Roni is now a dance teacher, after healing from an accident that ended her very promising dance carrier. Quincy is living his life as a recovering drug addict of 2 years enjoying every day carefully. After his heartbreaking past he appreciates the life he has and the people who support him and he is trying to build a relationship with Roni, the woman who stole his heart. This book is their love story, as they navigate the journey of healing their hearts and becoming “a given”.
This book is beautiful on so many levels but the most important of them is the characters connection, how honest and understanding they communicate and how wonderful they succeed to hold space for one another and to built an incredible relations. They do such incredible things, simple, heartwarming things for one another, there’s just so much affection shinning through these pages.
Each character has been through incredible hardships but this book is filled with little drama. The dear moments, happy, heartfelt ones, the hot ones and the lovely mundane ones make the most of this story. A charmingly written book that will simply leave you with such a warm feeling. A true gem!
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for my hones opinion.
The Gritty Truth is just phenomenal. I’ve been waiting for Quincy Gritt to get his story and his Happily Ever After since Tru Blue, and Melissa Foster has not disappointed. The Gritty Truth is darker than a lot of other books by this author, continuing the theme from Tru Blue and some of the other books featuring this group of characters, and it is honestly done so well. This story takes on some heavy issues and it is clear Melissa Foster has really researched the topic to make it as accurate as possible. Quincy and Roni really do have to conquer some mountains along the way and you’ll go right along this emotional rollercoaster with them. I could read this book again and again and again.
A gut-wrenching story of survival! Melissa Foster’s writing voice shines in book seven of her The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series as she rips a piece of her reader’s heart apart and then slowly sews it back together again. In THE GRITTY TRUTH we are quickly hooked on Quincy and Roni and waiting with baited breath for them to connect and live happily ever after, but life has another idea in store for them and they are going to be tested like no other before walking into the sunset together. The characters are well developed and awe inspiring, the supporting cast is full of love, laughs and emotion and the happily ever after is breathtaking. I can’t wait for more in the series!
Quincy is such a sweetheart! He’s been through so much with his mom, his addiction and his guilt yet he’s come out of the other side as such a loving young man. He’s easy to sympathize with and easy to love.
Roni tugs at our heartstrings. She was on top of the world when a freak accident stole her future and she fought hard to come back from it. Now she’s again floundering with the loss of her person, Gram. Quincy and his friendship and spirit helped put her back together again and now it’s time for their relationship to shine.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who loves a tight knit family of sentimental tough guys who love hard. The stories are always highly emotional, humorous and full of so much heart.
My heart is happy after reading this. It was exactly what I needed to escape and dive into a world of family, love, passion, and the type of love we only wish we could ever experience. Both Roni and Quincy have been through so much in their own right that coming together seemed perfect. I love the way their relationship develop and how we get to experience that along with them.
This book! It was real, emotional and raw. There were moments that brought this book full circle, while I’m not sure it was needed, it definitely added an extra layer of amazing! I love the whiskeys and the awesome family elements they add so that is always a bonus to these books!
From addiction to passion.
Melissa did it again. She took a taboo subject and wrote about it beautifully. The shame , the struggle and guilt that comes with being an addict are so well described I could feel every cracks in Quincy’s soul when he relates his past.
Roni and Quincy stories will rip your heart and shred you to pieces for sure !. Roni had her dancing dream crashed and Quincy is a recovered addicted that went thru hell and back to have the life he has now. Two people who had it tough but made the most of it.
Quincy is such a good friend, attentive, compassionate and passionate there is no way the shy Roni can’t fall for his charming sexy ways.
The Whiskeys are such a tight knit gang, open and welcoming. They showed both Roni and Quincy what a family is supposed to be and how love and acceptance are supposed to feel like.
Love is pouring thru every single page !
There are good stories, there are great stories, and then there are stories that stick with you for forever. The Gritty Truth is that last one.
If you’ve read Tru Blue and/or any of the others in the Whiskey Series, you know Quincy Grott and his story. But in this book, you learn his heart. And what a heart it is.
Quincy and Roni’s story is so unbelievably beautiful. It’s one of love, and trust, and overcoming all the obstacles that life throws at you. Each one of them has their own battle, and demons they are fighting, but when they come together, they realize they are stronger together and the power behind that will just knock you over.
Books like this one make you believe in the power of love.
OMG!!!! What an emotional roller coaster! I laughed, I cried and fell in love with both Quincy & Roni. This book grabs your attention in the very first chapter and doesn’t let go long after you’ve read the last word in the book. It leaves you wanting for more!
This story shows the strengths of 2 people as they overcome the challenges of their pasts. Quincy with his addiction and Roni due to her physical injury. Their chemistry is off the charts sizzling hot, but it’s their friendship that grabs my attention the most and makes this couple special.
Once again Melissa shows that family isn’t only made up of blood relatives but of the friends that we choose as our family. Melissa makes it hard for the kids in the Whiskey series not to steal the show because they are so adorable. The Whiskey’s welcome Roni into their family with open arms.
I found myself holding my breath and alternately trying not to cry as Roni and Grit learned about each other’s lives. Neither of them had an easy childhood–especially Grit! Luckily he had an older brother who tried to take care of him. Tru even went to jail for Grit when he murdered a man hurting his Mom.
Guilt had Grit turning to drugs-but he did manage to try to take care of his younger brother and sister-babies really. Luckily Tru found them and took the babies to live as his own children. The book Tru Blu which really had me in tears when I read it is one you should read.
With Tru’s help Grit was able to ultimately turn his life around and get drug free. But now he had a quandry–he had met Roni and really loved her but was afraid to tell her about his background. They finally confided in each other about their horrendous early lives and became inseparable.
Grit, who was a sponsor of a drug addict trying to come clean, was beat up and left for dead by her ex–and the ex had shot heroin into his veins. Back to rehab he went but was certain he had lost Roni.
There is a truly happy ending to all this and I think that you will love this story and remember it for many years to come!
Holy cow I was Tru all the way !!! Then Quincy stepped up to the plate and hit a home run!! Grab your tissues, drink and a soft place cuz your going to be reading this from beginning to end. Screaming, laughing and crying. But most of all wanting Quincy and Roni to make it to their finish line!!
Quincy Gritt….Ahhhh, this wondrous fabulous, man. If you read any book this year, make it this one! Bring your tissues, bring the whole box… Quincy and Roni’s story will make you sob, and then it will make you believe in Love and Honesty and second chances. This is a wonderful, emotional, heartwarming book and I’m so glad that I read it. Melissa Foster never disappoints me, and this book is one of her best!
Melissa Foster introduced us to Quincy in her book Tru Blue. I’m glad we finally get his story. And, oh boy, what a story it is!!! This emotional story will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Quincy’s love interest is Roni, a dancer. They are passionate about life, their work and each other. They are open & honest about their demons and what they have faced in their past. It is not “pretty.” These two are such a perfect match. Melissa Foster did a wonderful job with putting them together. The path they travel to their HEA is not easy. They have their friends by their side to give guidance and support. Loved that characters from other stories popped up in this one, which Is true of a Melissa Foster story. Thank you Melissa Foster for another wonderful story.
This book had me laughing, ugly crying and then laughing again.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions from beginning to end. I absolutely loved Quincy and Roni. Both had pasts that needed to be set free and together they fought their demons and people who threatened their love and HEA. And I absolutely loved seeing all the former faces in this book and them loving Quincy the way they did.
With each book I read I’m turning into a bigger fan of Melissa’s book and I’m super excited to see the next pair going after their HEA.
