Quincy and Roni were perfect for each other, and I really enjoyed their story. I love this series and can’t wait to read Diesel and Tracey’s story next!
It’s not often that a book will break my heart, and do it more than once. Quincy and Roni broke my heart twice. Fortunately, they also mended it with their strength and determination. I loved how much they loved each other, and were committed to everything. They also had the support of the whole Whiskey Family, and everyone close to them. It all made for a very special book. It automatically goes to the top of my list of Melissa Foster books.
Anyone who has had someone go through recovery, successfully or not, will likely find this to be a special story too.
This book has moved to my #1 on the Melissa Foster list of books.
The Emotional intensity of this book truly knocked me over. “Scars are reminders of the things we’ve gone through that brought us to this point and made us who we are.”
Veronica (Roni) and Quincy’s stories are heart wrenching. It shows that a supportive, loving person can help you get through the hard times. Showing that coping mechanisms are needed for people who have suffered traumatic experiences. I really connected with both Characters. The Whiskeys help define the true value of what family is.You don’t have to be blood related to be family.Tru and Gemma Kids Kennedy and Lincoln adds moments of cuteness and laughter.

I have been waiting for Quincy’s story since Tru Blue and it was so worth the wait! Quincy and Roni were perfect for each other. I loved watching their relationship develop and watching the two of them heal. Like all of Melissa’s books, this was beautifully written. It was a wonderful addition to my favorite family’s series!
Oh my god! I feel completely wrung out! Since starting to read this book, I’ve cried, smiled, laughed, and cried again! I’ve felt sympathy, grief, happiness, pride & fear. It takes an exceptional writer to pull you through all of this & leave you drained & wanting more at the end. This story makes you hope the promise of a happy ever after comes true!
Quincy was introduced in his brother Truman’s story, Tru Blue. He’s had a rough childhood but things are finally on an upswing when he meets Roni. As he begins to understand her demons, & share his, their relationship grows. When his past comes to call, will she believe in him & stand with him or will she walk away?
Veronica was an up & coming dancer until the accident that took away her dreams. She never had time for boys or relationships as she focused on dance. Now she teaches dance to children. Until she met Quincy, she was surviving. One look at him & she was hooked. Their friendship developed into something stronger & deeper.
I really loved the relationships in this story. Quincy & Roni had an instant connection that grew slowly until they were both able to acknowledge it. Quincy’s relationships with Truman, Kennedy & Lincoln went beyond what I expected. It adds another facet to Quincy’s personality. His protectiveness encompasses all of his friends & family. I loved the way they all enveloped Veronica into their folds because she was with Quincy. She learned that family isn’t just blood related & how they all have each other’s back. This story was one of the most emotionally charged I’ve read in quite a while & really enjoyed it.
This is the story of Quincy and Veronica (Roni)…though this can be read as a standalone story, if you’ve read previous books in the Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, you will be familiar with them. We first met Quincy in Tru Blue as he is Truman’s brother and as soon as we got a taste of his history, you wanted to hear the rest of it. It does not disappoint. Quincy and Roni have both had difficult (but different) childhoods and have both worked tremendously hard by overcoming their history and obstacles.
Quincy and Roni’s attraction is immediate the first time they meet during a charitable bachelor auction. Roni’s BFF “wins” Quincy for her and they spend weeks and months texting and building a friendship and what could be a foundation for a fantastic relationship. Many months later – Quincy makes his first “move” and invites Roni on their first date. It’s a special evening and the next step in their growing relationship.
As both their walls come down and they continue to grow closer – they also begin to share their difficult histories. His childhood was awful and he faced many, many challenges (no spoilers!) and has worked very hard to overcome all of them. He strives to be honest and open everyday and is completely upfront with Roni about his history and what he did and the work it took to overcome it. She is concerned about what she is told and has to take time to decide if they are worth the work…if they are a “given”. They are. She also opens up to him about her hardships and the reasons behind her not dancing professionally any longer.
As their relationship grows, they become closer and she also is welcomed into his family and extended family of the Dark Knights and start making plans for their future. As the holidays approach (Thanksgiving and Christmas) they start to create rituals that will be continued in years to come. As they plan their future together; Quincy’s past comes back with full force and not only threatens his life – it threatens their relationship.
He learns that an accident from Roni’s past is tied to him. This incident that will forever tie them together, also threatens to keep them apart. Will their love and forgiveness be able to overcome this huge obstacle that has been placed not only in front of Quincy but also Roni?
As soon as you start this story – you will be drawn into their story and fall in love with them as quickly as they fall for each other. Their stories and pasts will rip your heart apart and then will put it back together. I absolutely LOVED Quincy and Roni’s story!!
Quincy and Roni have both had a rough go in life. Roni was lucky enough to have her grandmother when she was growing up but now she’s passed away and she is dealing with that loss. All she has is a best friend and her boss whom she’s known since childhood. Quincy grew up with his brother basically raising him even though he had a mom. He had a super rough go and thanks to his brother and his brother’s friends who are now family, he has turned his life around and trying to help others who are in a similar situation to his a few years ago. Roni’s BFF has won a date for her with Quincy but shortly after her grandmother passed so when Quincy contacted her, she asked for time because she was grieving that loss. He stayed in contact with her to give her support even though it was at a distance and they both came to really enjoy and rely on that contact. She tries to avoid going out with him but one night he shows up and surprises her….she definately falls a bit with what he has done. The contact becomes more frequent and they truly enjoy being together and are attracted to each other. Quincy is so wonderful, giving Roni time and space that she needs to trust and rely on him. They have plenty of support from his brother and the family of friends, which have welcomed Roni into the fold. There’s a series of events that sets things back and even has a possibility of tearing them apart but Roni has grown to trust and love Quincy and despite the reservation her friend has she supports him. I won’t give spoilers, you have to read for yourself to see what happens but this is such a sweet story that gives you so many feels! For 2 people to have been through all they have and to have overcome so much and find each other will truly make you believe in love and HEA! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Melissa takes you on a roller coaster ride with this story. Quincy’s story is so much more than I could have imagined it would be. Quincy and Roni’s past are intertwined and makes you anxious to see how it all plays out. There are funny moments and there are moments that make you cry. I loved catching up on Tru and all the rest of the gang. Melissa created a amazing story for Quincy and I can’t wait to see how they are doing in future books.
After Roni’s friends won a date with Quincy for her at the bachelor auction she was a bit unsure about going on the date with him. Quincy never gave up but instead of pushing he formed a great friend foundation with Roni via texts. He was able to show her what a kind, protective and compassionate guy he is. Once that first date happened they we’re almost inseparable and having a great time and becoming closer. After a few dates Quincy made sure to tell Roni the truth about his past drug addiction, recovery and that he takes his recovery one day at time. He wants to let her make the decision on wether she wants to continue seeing him. Roni decides to take a leap of faith and continue seeing Quincy. Quincy and Roni have been through a lot in their respective pasts.
I was expecting to be gutted and needing Kleenex while reading this, but it never happened for me. I’m perfectly fine with that because the love story they get in this book is perfect and there is a little twist in there that will make you think a bit more.
This is Quincy and Roni’s story. It was so good. Melissa is a great storyteller and this book is one of my favorites. I love the roller coaster of emotions and it really was a romantic and sweet and sexy story. Quincy and Roni both have a past that was less than good. Both had parents who was less than stellar. Roni had her grandmother who past away. She was also dealing with losing her dream. Quincy is a recovering addict who has fought hard to fight past it. Quincy wanted to just be there for her and it was so beautiful how he treated her. As their relationship grows Quincy’s past comes back to haunt him. I could not put this book down. I’m so happy they got their HEA. One of the things I love about this author and her books, is her secondary characters are wonderful. I love the way family comes together to help each other.
This is Melissa Foster’s 7th book featuring the Whiskey family. Quincy, Truman, Kennedy and Lincoln honorary Whiskeys, but family nonetheless. I am amazed at how far Quincy has grown and matured. Truman was my most favorite but after reading the Gritty Truth, Quincy has taken that spot. When I tell you this book has all the feels – it’s no joke. I laughed, sighed, giggled, awed and outright sobbed while reading this book. Melissa shattered my heart, but put it all back together again by “The End”.
Quincy has known for months that Veronica ‘Roni’ is his one. He waits patiently building their friendship. As a recovering addict, Quincy knows he has to be truthful. Roni is a dancer whose life changed with a tragic accident. Roni teaches dance now so that she can still be part of the dance world. Life is never all rainbows and unicorns – this couple has a rough time handling the truth of their past.
This book will be one of my top 5 reads of all time. An absolute fantastic, 5 star, 2 snaps and a clap must read. Although you could read it as a stand alone, I would not recommend doing so. You need to experience all that is Quincy Gritt by going back and reading from the beginning with Tru Blue.
This is the seventh book of the series. Wow just Wow! It can be read as a standalone because each book deals with one couple. These stories you have to work for it it’s not easy but nothing ever worth it is.
*
Quincy has had a hard life nothing came easy. He’s done things he shouldn’t have and made some really bad choices, and finally he hit rock bottom, but he wasn’t alone he had people who cares about him wanting him to straighten up and to become the man he wants to be, the man he can be proud of. It’s not easy, but it’s what he has to do, for himself.
*
Roni’s life hasn’t been easy for her it’s been one hard knock after another. Just when she thought all of dreams were coming true, she was knocked down again. However she continues to work hard and not let anything stop her no matter how many times she falls she gets back up and the perseverance’s pay off, leading to her getting her life back on the right path. Some dreams shift and change into something you never realized you truly wanted until you achieve them.

Together they are amazing and magical I loved their story! This series has been a wonderful ride that we get to see the couples facing challenges in a variety of ways but each overcome what life gives them and make it better for themselves.
The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster is book 7 in The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor Series. This is the story of Veronica ‘Roni’ Wescott and Quincy Gritt. I have read the previous books which did add to my enjoyment of this one. But, I do feel you can make it a standalone book if you wish to do so…I just hate for you to miss this great series. Roni hasn’t had a easy time with some of the things life has thrown at her, but she has worked try to keep moving forward. Quincy has made some bad choices that have left him working to straiten his life out which he has done and he is working to move forward. Quincy now wants to work toward claiming Roni as his own and keep moving forward. Ms. Foster has a way of writing that makes you feel the characters and what they are going through. This book took me into their story and I couldn’t put it down. I loved it and I do recommend this author’s writing and of course this book. Loved it!
Quincy Gritt is here and he is amazing, loving and so damn honest.
“BooFul” is the word you will take away from Quincy and Roni’s story. Melissa Foster gave us a warning at the beginning of the book that she will break our hearts and she wasn’t lying. Guys, I was a blurbing mess at 2am because my heart was torn apart reading everything Quincy and Roni went through.
Quincy and Roni are so CUTE together with their affection, strength, and text/video messages. Let’s not forget the scavenger hunt was so much fun to read. And those kids in the Whiskey family are scene stealers and adorable.
I had a feeling what the big climax was going to be but reading the words still broke my heart and made me proud that Roni stuck by her man.
This book sets up the next novellas/book that are coming in this series.
This was a very emotional book for me but well worth the investment of my feelings. Quincy Gritt has had a hard life and is just putting it back together with the help of an addiction program. He’s been texting Roni Westcott to get her to go out on a date with him that her friends “won” for her. She’s very introverted from an car accident that took her dream of dancing away. He think she’s the one for him. When he has the best date for them, she can’t refuse. It’s not a public date and something she thinks is wonderful that he thought of. They start their relationship slowly but he feels that she’ll stop seeing him if he tells her the truth about his past with drugs. I really liked how both of them are each fighting their own demons but together they are stronger and help each other out. It’s hard to see them go through some of the problems that they do but it’s also encouraging that they try to work it out. Things don’t go smoothly and that’s the beauty of this wonderful book. I received an ARC and I’m leaving my honest review.
This book has everything, drama, fun.
I loved everything about this book.
Roni is a dancer, her dreams was cut short, when she had an accident.
Quincy is recovering addict.
Both of them has to go thru a lot to get their HEA.
I’ve been wanting Quincy’s story since Tru Blue and I’m in love with it!! Emotional overload!!
Quincy is a recovering addict and been through a lot in his life. He’s made peace with his decisions and his past. Veronica “Roni” is a dancer and has had her own rough times to overcome. As they get to know each other better the sparks get too hard to deny.
An emotional and gritty truth of a read from beginning to end.
Ever since I read Tru Blue four years ago, I have been waiting for Quincy’s story and it DID NOT disappoint! I have read ALL of Melissa’s books and I think this one moved me like no other – it was raw and truly gritty as you fall in love with Quincy and Roni but you REALLY feel their pain – his fight with his past and his addiction and hers with her accident and what she thinks is the loss of her dream to dance in front of others. Quincy is a true inspiration on how he has turned his life around and how he treats his love of Roni and her dedication to him and them, left me in tears. This is a GREAT book and I couldn’t put it down. Melissa really brought this story of these two brothers full circle!
The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster
The Whiskeys #7
Quincy Gritt and Roni Wescott both had parents that were not there for them when they were growing up. Roni was lucky enough to have a grandmother there to aid her achieve her dreams, but Quincy had only a bit older brother to keep him safe. The two met through a bachelor auction then texted for months before actually going on a date. The connection between them was strong but would they be able to honestly communicate, share past traumas, and then move forward to create a future together? It was well worth the read to find out.
What I liked:
* Roni: Strong, focused, big-hearted, giving and loving, there for the man that captured her heart.
* Quincy: Generous, loving, intelligent, family oriented, focused, romantic, and a man there for his woman.
* That Roni and Quincy were open, honest, and communicated openly with one another.
* That the two were both able to overcome huge obstacles and do so in a positive way
* The love shown between the two
* The frank open way drug abuse/addiction is discussed in the book
* The supporting cast of characters
* That this book is standalone and easily read without having read previous books in the series
* All of it really except…
What I did not like:
* Puck: what a horrible person he was!
* The childhood Quincy and his siblings suffered through
* The life changing injury Roni suffered
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in the series? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4.5 Stars
I have been wondering about Quincy Gritt and his story and who would be his heroine since I first met him in Tru Blue. This book captured my curiosity and led me into a story that was haunting, tragic, dark, gritty yet beautiful. I am still having pictures of the story running through my head. I knew this would be a hard book to read and for me, it was. I loved watching their story unfold and learning about both of their pasts but learning more about Quincy’s background, just made you want to give him a hug. I give Quincy credit for breaking out of his past and becoming the amazing man he is today. Really enjoyed Roni and her friendship with Angela and I love her dancing background, that was a great part of her journey and her story. These two just really deserved a break in life and deserved to be with someone who appreciated them for who they were, faults and all. Seeing them with their friendship and progress into more, was everything. I also like how Kennedy and Lincoln are coming more into their own and I love their Miss Woni and Booful, too adorable. The last few chapters were tough to get through and it makes me tear up even thinking about it, but Quincy made the responsible decision to get back on track, through no fault of his own, and with the support of his loving family and friends, left and took care of his business. The ending was such a fresh start for Roni and Quincy and their friends were right there to celebrate with them. One of my favorite quotes from this book is, ‘scars are reminders of the things we’ve gone through that brought us to this point and made us who we are’. I loved this story because it is real and raw and author, Melissa Foster, does not shy away from the harsh realities of life and I appreciate that about her as a reader and fan. Cannot wait to see what is next from our Whiskey family and friends.
