You get all you have come to expect from Melissa Foster and her Whiskeys and Dark Knight series….
The emotional intensity have you turning page after page wanting to have the whole story. While at the same time you want it all to slow-down enough for you to savor it all. We have seen or heard in passing of both Quincy and Roni over the course of the last six books in this series. Now, we get something more. We find out what had them in the places they were in and what will help them get past to a future. The future that would encompass the two of them being together with the history and present.
Melissa delivers us a story that gives the good and bad of life. The ups and downs that shape us to be who we are and allows for us to gather strength to forge forward in life. I found the Gritty Truth to be an excellent addition to the Whiskeys: Dark Knights of Peaceful Harbor series.

This time Quincy Gritt have to stay strong for more than just himself. He had has battle with rehab. Ronnie had had battle with rehab. Both in rehab for different reasons. I am just going to put it out there. Chapter seven will have you needing tissues and Ghent there are the last few chapters they just may do the same thing
I have to be honest and say that I am a little miffed with Ronnie for sharing Quincy’s business. I know that she needed to work through the process but it just felt wrong to me to share someone’s personal business without even asking them if it was okay. That got solves few chapters later but it still bothered me. Then it was the story of Ronnie and Quincy and the magic of them.
Then you know something had to go and mess things up. I loved Ronnie strength and conviction. I loved the family and forged family the were their for both Quincy and Ronnie.
This was another addition to the whiskeys that made it all worth it.
Jennifer Mack was a different take on the narrator end. She had her own unique as added to the wonderfully crafted story from Melissa Foster. A Jacob Morgan has returned to another MF story. It is always nice to have him in the role of narrator. The richness of the male voice he give gets you right in the feels.
I was rooting for Quincy from Truman’s book. My heart broke for the lost boy/man he became after Truman went to jail. The love these 2 kids had for each other and the pain they endured was truly heartbreaking, but they both fought to come out the other side!
Roni also had to endure heartbreak. She lost her future as a dancer. She fought back and learned to walk and eventually dance.
Quincy fell for the beautiful dancer. He didn’t want to jump into a relationship with her until he was at least 2 years clean. He also didn’t just want her physically, he wanted her as a friend first.
Melissa Foster has always written characters that strong. Most of her characters had dealt with horrific tragedy in their past. And she doesn’t disappoint with Quincy’s book. I don’t like to read about addicts/drugs use etc. But Quincy’s book is soo much more! She handles this topic with grace and truth. She didn’t brush off his recovery or has him never talk about his past. She dives right into the truth about addiction and recovery. And it just makes you love Quincy more!
Quincy is loving, caring, and puts his recovery first as an addict should. He knows it’s a long road that will never end and he does everything to stay the straight path. And the love the Whiskey family has for him and how they support him is just, swoon!
This book just blew me away! It was just everything you want in Quincy’s story. Thank you, Melissa Foster for writing a beautiful story for Quincy and Roni!
The Gritty Truth is so real, honest and raw!!! I felt every emotion as this story continued and Quincy and Roni consumed my heart. I laughed as much as I cried and the pain drove me crazy! These two experienced extreme loss and devastation in their lives, but they are such strong and amazing people that bring out the best in each other. Quincy is sexy, protective and sweet but he has demons that could change everything. Roni is shy and beautiful but she’s a fighter. You need to read this book for the videos, the dates, the tattoos, the Christmas tree, the kids, the dance and the book alone. The Gritty Truth is an emotional rollercoaster that is full of loss, grief, hope, heartache and so much love and dedication. Quin and Roni are survivors who won’t give up on each other even though they know the absolute gritty truth. This couple will stay with you long after you read the last page because they branded your heart as they touched your soul!

Love coming to this family and once again Melissa Foster shows us that family is not necessarily blood related but it those that count and stand by you that is family. For years Quincy has felt like he doesn’t deserve to be loved seeing how he hasn’t really known love at all. Only one who has been there was his brother, Tru and even then he tried to push him away. Guilt and memories can make a man turn hard but knowing that love can happen especially for Tru he wants it all now. Roni is perfect for him for in a way she completes him in a way no one has done. Seeing them together you can see how free Quincy is away from all the bad stuff that has happened and Roni coming alive with him. Melissa Foster shows us that love can bloom between two friends and grow into a once in a lifetime love that doesn’t have words but action. Loved see Grit and the whole gang even Dixie, Jace and the little children will just melt your heart. Cannot wait to see who is next in this serie.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
Quincy and Roni are perfect for each other. Their love and support for each other are tangible. They have off the charts chemistry that heats up the pages of this book. Both struggle with pasts that have molded them into who they are today. Foster always digs deep with her characters – there are layers to them – you really get to understand them and their motivations. This is one thing I really enjoy about her writing, there is always a great backstory to each lead character. Not only did I love the lead characters, but the supporting characters added touches of humor, love, and really emphasized the importance of family – but family can be more than just those you are related to. This story deals drug abuse and recovery, rebuilding relationships and trust. It is well written and engaging. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster is part of the Whiskey’s series and if you’ve read any of the other books before this, you know it is going to be full of angst, passion and sweet times. The story focuses on Quincy Gritt and if you’ve read the previous books, you’re already going to have some background knowledge of him. A former drug addict, Quincy is trying to turn his life around after going through rehab, confessing to his crimes and trying to be a productive member of society. He’s been into Veronica ‘Roni’ Wescott for a long time but knew that he had to conquer some of demons first before he even made a move for more with her.
Roni has been through her own heartache, losing her grandmother and having to give up her dreams of being an international dancer, she is shy and introverted and although she is attracted to Quincy, she doesn’t know if she can risk her heart with him. Roni was such a sweet character, in ways she’s very innocent but in others she is worldly wise, especially with the way she grew up. Her and Quincy together just make the perfect couple. The scene when they are looking for a Christmas tree was beautiful, funny and very sweet.
This was a beautifully written story with a HEA. Characters from other books pop up and I love how they are one big family who love each other, but continually try and teach each other about being good people and overcoming obstacles that may drop in the way now and again. There is a little bit of drama throughout the book which keeps you turning the pages and we also get to see more into Quincy’s past which was heart-breaking to read about.
Roni and Quincy together just make sense. They flow together so well, have open communication, some really steamy scenes and you can feel the love coming off them with every page that you read. I loved how unsure both of them were but how they both tried hard to make things work even when things became difficult. Roni’s feelings about Quincy and his drug abuse were honest and at times raw and Quincy made no qualms about what his recovery would mean for their future.
You’re going to laugh, cry and be wowed by this couple as well as all of the other crossover characters from previous books. Another wonderful read from Ms. Foster.
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own.
More of my reviews can be found on my blog: http://thehotmesslibrary.blogspot.com
I had just finished reading Tru Blue when I received the arc of this book, so I was excited to read it and get Quincy’s story.
And what a story of is! Quincy is a recovering drug addict with two years clean. He’s turned his life around and has become the towns most eligible bachelor. But he only has eyes for Roni. A dance teacher and former professional dancer whose career was ended after an accident. Roni dedicated her life to dance and had little to no experience most of the things we take advantage of, like dating, school dances, and parties.
Quincy and Roni start as friends and she is reluctant to move out of the friends zone even though she really likes Quincy. Quincy is persistent but not in an overbearing way and finally gets the date he’s been wanting. Their relationship moves pretty quickly after that and the story is filled with big romantic gestures and over the top declarations of like, lust, love and feelings, first in thoughts and then to each other. The funny thing is, there was a line about how their life is not like a Hallmark movie, but that’s exactly what I had been thinking it was like. So while it was a bit much, I still really loved their story and will likely start the series from the beginning to read the ones in the middle I missed and this one again.
Finally getting to know Quincy on a deeper level! With Quincy’s story, I feel like this entire series has come full circle for me, as this series literally started with Quincy making a call to Truman. Throughout the books in this series I have loved getting small bits of updates about Quincy’s character development, and I was so excited when this landed on my e-reader! After making it through detox and rehab, Quincy is over two years sober and really thriving in his sober lifestyle by focusing on helping others in the same situation. When he meets Roni, there’s a sort of pull towards her that he can’t explain but it makes him want to try an actual relationship. Roni has a difficult past as well, growing up on the wrong side of town and losing her dream and career from an accident that changed the course of her life. When Roni finally stops fighting the feelings that she clearly has for Quincy, their relationship thrives and I was so excited to see them experience many firsts together that they so desperately needed. Without giving anything away – there are so many bombs dropped in this book it had me on the edge of my seat! This is one of the must-read books of the year for me. The ending was a little abrupt for me – I wish that we had gotten a little more from it, but it did give us the HEA both the characters deserved and needed. I hope we get more from this book world from Melissa as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and grown attached to this group of characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Gritty Truth is a heartwarming, heart wrenching, heartbreaking, heart healing romance between two imperfect individuals who are just perfect for each other!
Throughout this excellent The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series, I’ve grown to love Quincy and have rooted for him since he appeared in Tru Blue and has been sprinkled throughout the stories in the rest of the series. And, at last, it’s Quincy’s turn to find love and get to his happily ever after, but man it’s not an easy path!
Quincy Gritt has been through hell and back and has thrived since working to conquer his demons and wrangle control of his addiction. He’s fully supported by his brother, Truman and his wife, Gemma, as well as the rest of the Whiskeys and Dark Knights. No longer fighting his battles on his own, Quincy is ready to take the next step: find someone who’ll share his life and his future with. Someone who’ll love him despite his past and his ongoing recovery. And he’s found just the perfect woman—Veronica “Roni” Wescott—and he’ll do just about anything to convince her to take a chance on him.
But taking chances is not in Roni’s makeup. She’s careful, plodding, and prefers the safety of hiding behind her phone or computer screen versus taking a chance on finding love and a life beyond what she’s always known. But there’s just something about Quincy that Roni just can’t shake. And their connection and attraction to each other is undeniable.
I loved watching Quincy and Roni fall in love. How they bonded initially through their friendship and then moved on to something more. Their friendship and trust and honesty is the base of their romance. And it’s an amazing, strong foundation that’s supported by their family and friends. I loved seeing the Whiskey’s and Dark Knights embrace Roni and enfold her into their family. I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough to see how things between Quincy and Roni unfolded and resolved themselves. And I cannot wait for Penny and Scott’s and Diesel and Tracey’s stories next!
If I had to come up with just one word to describe this book, it would be the word “real”. Quincy has his demons that he is fighting, but he is the most real, honest, and caring man. Roni, is fighting her demons too, but together they are stronger. This book is a very emotional read, but well worth the tears, because there are also many happy, swoon worthy moments too. I can promise you, that you will not want to put it down. I don’t just recommend this book, it is a must read. I would give it more than 5 stars, if I could.
ARC received for an honest review
Ever since I read Tru Blue all those years ago, I have been waiting for Quincy Gritty’s story. Tru Blue is still my favourite Melissa Foster book – ever I was disappointed with The Gritty Truth.
Throughout the Whiskey series, we have learned little bits about Quincy, though we have always learned things from Truman or others POV. Now we have the whole shebang from Quincy’s story, and, as I knew it would be, it was heartbreaking and beatiful and sad – and hopeful.
Both Quincy and Roni have had a crappy time in the past, and it was wonderful to see them pull each other through. They are each other’s anchor in a turbulent world.
I loved the honesty of this story. Quincy hides nothing, owns his mistakes, and is the kind of person all of us should aspire to be like. He is full of love. Oh boy, did he make my heart swell at times.
I liked how our lovelies didn’t just fall into bed. They have a slow burn of a relationship, that only bursts into flame when they really, really know each other. Roni’s strength shines through as the story progresses.
I love, love, loved getting more of my man Truman Gritt, along with his family, and the extended family of Peaceful Harbor.
There is one thing though – and I feel that this is more my thing with Ms Foster’s books and it probably does not bother any one else – the past few books, including The Gritty Truth – get to a stage in the story where the leading characters are just cruising, and it feels like it is just filler. Our characters are in their happy and just living life. Nothing wrong with that, however I feel that we could probably have about 10% of the book cut and it would be just as enjoyable. Again, this is just my musings, my thing.
I am looking forward to more in these worlds.
Deserves ALL the stars!
Don’t forget a box of tissue…you’ll need it for this raw, honest, utterly beautiful story. Quincy and Roni’s story is heart-thumping, sexy, romantic and will break your heart into pieces before it gets put back together again. Foster doesn’t pull the punches with The Gritty Truth. It’s the whole package.
The Gritty Truth draws you in quickly and takes you on a ride that will have you holding your breath, breathing sighs of relief, rooting for the hero and falling in love with both Quincy and Roni. I love how this author finds a way to bring real life problems into the story and weaves them throughout in a way that allows you to understand what the character truly has gone through. This is a book worth staying up late to read. If you have not read any of the Whiskey’s stories this is a great stand alone that will draw you into wanting to read more about them as well. Grab this book! You won’t regret it.
The Gritty Truth!
OMG! OMG! OMG! I wasn’t really prepared for the way this book grabs the reader and drags us through all the emotions as we travel Quincy and Roni’s journey to find their life, better together. So be prepared with a large box of tissues beside you! I had to take some breaks during reading this book, while my eyes stopped leaking so I could actually see the beautiful words Melissa Foster wrote in this book. I don’t want to give away anything with this review, but trust me when I say, this is a book that will stay with you long after you finish reading it!
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.
Audiobook Review…I cannot rave enough about Quincy Gritt’s story. I was listening to Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan read his story and tears were rolling down my cheeks. The story is hard, emotional, and wonderful. The narrators bring the fear, the strength, and the Gritt of the story to life. The love between Quincy and Roni is evident with every look, every word, and every touch. I could feel their love come to be as I heard their story be told.
I have been waiting for Quincy’s story and it is finally here. Quincy has been a character in other Whiskey books, and I knew he had quite the story to tell. Never did I dream that Melissa Foster would take me on the ride she did while telling the story. I cried I cringed, I hoped, and I dreamed of Quincy and Roni. Both characters had a story to tell and their stories made them perfect for each other.
Roni and Quincy are both recovering. They are recovering from different things, but they are both working to keep their past behind them and find a future they can thrive and grow in. While texting for months, blushing when Roni sees Quincy, and keeping their distance from each other they shared their lives, dreams, and hopes for the future. Quincy was taking notes and making plans on his way to win Roni’s heart. The first date between them put all other first dates to shame. I swooned while reading what Quincy was willing to do for Roni. It goes to prove that you do not have to spend a lot of money or go to extravagant ends to impress someone, just take the time to learn what is important to them and make it work for you.
Melissa Foster is amazing, talented, and knows just the words to write to pull her reader deep into her characters’ world. Pick up your copy of The Gritty Truth. Read the entire series of The Whiskeys. Audiobook Review…I cannot rave enough about Quincy Gritt’s story. I’ve been waiting for Quincy’s story for so long.
Since I met him in Truman’s book, I knew that he would share some emotional story and I wasn’t wrong. He just did.
The Gritty Truth had plenty of emotions, about the two main characters who had endured so much and had to face their own fears, when some scars still ran deep. Two fighters and survivors who took a chance on love and oh my Quincy… the biggest swoon for that one and so much more.
Quincy was still working on himself. He might have done wrong in his past, but totally assuming it and not ashamed. As a former addict, he showed that he could face it thanks to his family and friends, supportive like no other.
There’s been a long way of recovery, a rough path but it made him the man he was today. Loyal, selfless with a heart of gold and no longer lost.
I had such a crush for him but this book made me fall more in love with this character.
Veronica was a fighter, independent and trying very hard not to fall for Quincy. When the woman who was raised to be tough, not to rely on someone, met him and all his family, welcoming her so warmly and genuinely, it was definitely more difficult to put any distance. Brave and fierce, sweet and sassy all at once, I appreciated how honest she was and always supportive of Quincy, not judging and trusting him.
I adored their chemistry and banter. Melissa could write some swoony heroes but their matches were not damsels in distress, women who could keep them on their toes and challenge them along the way. Quincy was going straight for what he wanted, not beating around the bush but letting the girl lead the pace.
They were insanely cute and somehow intense. I appreciated how
It showed a darker side and somehow very sad story on how your life could easily be spiraling down but when you have people who could stand by your side and help you fight your battles, the hard work pays.
After meeting so many characters throughout the other books, I wasn’t lost at all. Each book introduces a new couple that would give you butterflies and all the feels. This one was particularly heavy on the feels but it was the gritty truth, without any pretense, raw and emotional, passionate and sweet at times.
Quincy and Veronica told us a beautiful story, full of love, with strong family values and friendships, and once you’re part of this family they won’t let you go easily.
This was such a beautiful, and phenomenal story. I enjoyed many moments smiling, laughing, melting with the heat, but Melissa absolutely broke me emotionally on more than one occasion with this. She took the wind out of my sails with the most emotion I’ve ever felt whilst reading a book.
Quincy has held a special place in my heart ever since meeting him and Tru in their traumatic story of Tru Blue. I thought I was prepared to relive his heartbreaking past and ready to take on whatever was going to come along but my heart felt like it had actually broke as I read certain scenes. This is now firmly planted forever as my #1 Top Melissa Foster read! It can definitely be read as a standalone but I feel that there is a special connection to the characters that seeds from Tru Blue that brings even more feelings to this book.
I always love my time in the Whiskey world, it’s always fun, people genuinely care about each other, no judgements are made and are everyone is so supportive, which is what Quincy, a recovering drug addict, needed more than most. He was in his second drug free year and doing really well, he had turned into such a genuine, caring and thoughtful guy, and he was falling hard for sexy dance teacher Roni, who also had her own traumatic history. As we follow their story the author brings the beautiful excitement of fresh love to the pages, the giddiness, stolen glances, the innocence of kissing, drifting you back in time and bringing a smile to your face.
They have the ultimate connection and chemistry, but as things start to progress Quincy finds that he can not allow the relationship to strengthen until he has been totally honest with Roni about his past, even if it means delving into his mistakes he regrets on a daily basis and the possibility of losing Roni completely by scaring her off. As you read, you could feel the sheer anguish, pain, and sadness, running off the pages, whilst remembering to tell yourself to breathe. It ripped my heart out listening to Quincy retell his heartbreaking and unthinkable past. And even though we love Quincy now, imagining how Roni must have felt not knowing what to do with all this painful story. She could be taking the biggest risk of her life. It definitely makes you think about your own thoughts and how would you deal with the biggest decision of your life. What will Roni decide? And what will happen next?
After finishing the book I was an emotional wreck, it left me speechless with emotion as I sat thinking…I just…I can’t…I just…I felt like I’d taken all the emotion I could. I found myself writing to the author to try to express just an ounce of how I was feeling…
“I feel like an absolute wreck, I don’t think I could have take much more emotion, can’t get the words out, but phenomenal and beautiful is all I can say. I actually feel like my heart has broke. Thank you for being such an amazing writer xxx”
Phenomenal #1 Melissa Foster read!

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was when I heard that Quincy Gritt’s story was the next in the Whiskey series! I’ve been waiting since Tru Blue, which is his brother Tru’s story. So, you can imagine how excited I was when it finally appeared on my Kindle. I literally dropped everything and read it in one day!
Each book in the series tells the story of a different couple and can be read as a standalone romance. However, we often see characters from Melissa’s other books. If you’re like me and enjoy knowing all of the backstories, I recommend reading the series in order. Just know that it’s only a suggestion.
The Gritty Truth tells the story of Quincy and Roni, and it gave me a serious case of the feels! Quincy and Roni have had difficult challenges in their lives, and I love how supportive they are to each other. They cherish every new experience together, and I seriously had a big smile throughout a large portion of the book, but then my heart dropped. I truly felt heartbroken for Quincy and Roni, and I think I held my breath during those last couple of chapters!
The Gritty Truth is an amazing story, and I absolutely loved the ending! It was worth every yawn the next day!

I fell madly in love with Tru Blue. Honestly, Truman’s story is one of my top 10 books and from there I was hooked on the Whiskey series. But from that first book, I have wanted Quincy’s story.
I felt like I knew most of Quincy’s story, but I knew it from Truman’s point of view and I KNEW it would be an emotional ride. Everything he came through to get to this point made him someone so genuine and human. He had walked through fire and come out of it surrounded by the love and support of the Whiskey clan. I really loved him and his commitment to being the best version of himself he could be.
I don’t really remember Roni but she was a great compliment for Quincy. She had walked through her own fire and come out solid. As beautiful inside as she was out. I loved how perfectly she fit in with everyone and how supportive she was of everything Quincy was going through.
This series is awesome. I love that they can be read in order, to give you this great family connection or as a complete standalone. And since I’ve read them as a series getting a little more of each couple with every book has been as great as watching the guys and girls on the outskirts take their turn at centre stage.
I’m not going to lie this was a lot less devastating than I was expecting. Which may have something to do with the fact I was expecting complete devastation. But I felt more uplifted by the fact they were both so solid. In their recoveries and in each other. And now I am dying to get Running on Diesel. He has been teasing me from the background and I can’t wait to get to know him better.
The Gritty Truth is Quincy’s story. For those familiar with this series, Quincy has been a frequent character since Tru Blue and I was eager for his story. Melissa Foster didn’t disappoint with a raw, emotional and confronting story of addiction, redemption, family and love.
Quincy had a turbulent childhood and has a troubled past. He’s done his best to atone for his choices in the past and is kind, compassionate, sweet, honest and loving. He’s a complex and endearing character who shares a special bond with his siblings and the family that is both blood and those he chose.
Roni is a dance teacher, who is incredibly patient and kind to her young charges. She’s also sweet, strong and resilient, but also quite vulnerable.
The banter and chemistry they share is evident from start to finish and kept me completely enthralled. The Gritty Truth took me through a gamut of emotions, finding myself smiling, laughing out loud, but also shedding a few tears.
The Whiskey’s of Peaceful Harbor have captured my heart and I can’t wait for the next addition to this series.
