A fun, sexy, and emotionally riveting new standalone romance by New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster. USA Today bestseller THE GRITTY TRUTH is the perfect love story for those who enjoy fiercely loyal and insanely sexy alpha heroes, smart, sassy heroines, strong family bonds, bikers, babies, and more!Recovering drug addict Quincy Gritt has fought his demons. He’s finally ready to go after sweet, sexy Roni, the gorgeous brunette who won a date with him in a charity auction five months ago and has been putting him off, and driving him wild, ever since.
Dancer Veronica “Roni” Wescott worked hard to escape the seedy area where she was raised and followed her dreams to Julliard, only to have them shattered in the blink of an eye. She fought hard and regained her footing, but then the rug was pulled out from under her again when the grandmother who raised her passed away, leaving Roni feeling adrift in a world she knows very little about outside of dance. And then there’s Charlie Hunnam–lookalike Quincy Gritt—the man whose late-night texts pulled her through her grief and have been setting her heart aflutter for months.
Quincy pulls out all the stops, determined to prove that their friendship is only the beginning of what’s destined to be so much more. Romantic nights lead to smoldering passion and a deep connection too strong to be denied. But when Quincy’s past comes back to haunt him, can he and Roni accept their new gritty truth, or will Quincy spiral back into the darkness and lose the future he fought so hard to have?

GUTTED ME!!!
I stayed up all night to finish, I couldn’t go to sleep until I knew how Quincy and Roni’s story ended. This story was everything I love about Melissa Foster books, she gave us two lovable characters with heartbreaking pasts that they need to work through. For Roni it’s recovering from a devastation that put her lifelong dreams in danger, and Quincy is a recovering drug addict.
This is going to be short and sweet. This book was utterly amazing. If you haven’t read any of Melissa Foster’s books you should and this should be at the top of the list. If you are a fan of Melissa’s you are in for a real treat with this one, the chemistry is amazing but beyond that there wasn’t one thing I would change about this story.
Happy Reading!!!
Quincy and Roni both have their demons to overcome. Quincy has battled addiction and a trouble past to come out on top. Roni has had her dreams yanked out from under her with a death. She is down but not out and Quincy may be able to convince her to take a chance. Awesome read.
The Gritty Truth is amazing. You get this sexy, sweet and a little dash emotional read when it comes to Quincey and Roni’s story. I loved getting to know Quincey more. He will melt your heart in so many different ways. He is amazing with kids and I love how he helps those in his group. We get all the Whiskeys that you love and adore in this one. I love how the just surround and take in everyone and make you feel as if you are apart of the family. Roni she is sweet and you get why she hides herself some. Once you get to know Roni and Quincey you get why they are the way they are. Your heart will ache for them as the past comes to life. Their is such a powerful connection between Roni and Quincey that will draw you in and own you from start to finish. Roni is sweet and loving with Quincey with everything he goes through. I love that she sticks by him through everything she learns. This sexy couple will touch a piece of your heart and not let go. I love this couple so much and did not want to put this one down. If you haven’t had a chance to meet more of Quincey yet then you really need to now.
Love, love, love this series. It has more detailed steam then I like, but none of it is gratuitous. This series pulls on my heart, churns my gut, makes me roll with laughter, feel the love and ball my eyes out. Quincy is so strong, his compassion, his generosity, his honesty, all from his troubled youth. Roni had her own rough past, and watched her dreams be torn away. Diversity made these two people what they are and to watch them grow together, learn about each other and deal with the next tragedy is such a heart moving roller coaster. I want to live in that town, go to Whiskeys Bro’s. Meet Red , Biggs and their family. Love, Love, Love
This book grabbed my heart and soul and held on tight. Quincy and Roni are everything! I couldn’t stop listening. Jennifer Mack was the perfect Roni. And Jacob Morgan, who is one of my favs, had the perfect voice for sweet and sexy Quincy. Quincy and Roni both have painful pasts they are trying to recover from. Quincy is a recovering drug addict. Roni is recovering from an injury that took her dancing dream away from her. Roni friend wins Quincy in a charity auction. Roni isn’t ready to date anyone. Quincy doesn’t give up. They form a friendship over texting. Then after months Quincy makes the big move and gets Roni to go on a date with him. From there sparks fly instantly. They uncover every raw detail of each other. The hardest part, is their pasts. The scene where they reveals their pasts to each other made me feel like they were revealing their souls to me. I felt every word. This is a story of redemption and moving past trauma. And just when you think everything is in line life hits them with a final blow that Quincy isn’t sure their relationship can survive. I’ll be honest, part of this books I was in tears. But not because it was sad. The opposite. It’s because this story is so beautiful. Quincy and Roni are everything and their story is one that needs to be experienced. And I loved the side characters that make up this series. This is my first read in this series. I didn’t feel lost. But I do want to check out all the stories. I’m invested! A must read/listen for anyone who wants a story that will touch their heart and soul and consume them in the best way.
The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster is a contemporary romance that I listened I listened to on audio narrated by Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan. This is the seventh book in The Whiskeys: Dark Knights At Peaceful Harbor series but can be read as a standalone.
This is the sixth book of Melissa’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. It was absolutely amazing. Melissa sure knows how to take you through an emotional roller coaster. You can’t help but fall in love with Quincy and Roni. I cannot wait to read more books from The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series.
Jennifer and Jacob did a great job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you love contemporary romances.

***** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *****
The Gritty Truth by Melissa Foster was so much better than I expected and my expectations were high! I’m just so impressed with every book that Foster releases, they seem to get better and better. The Gritty Truth was so emotionally charged for both main characters. Quincy is a character I’ve been eagerly awaiting since meeting him in True Blu. He was everything I expected and so much more. He’s one of those men that knows just what (read who) he wants and goes after it (them)! I really adored the heart of Quincy. He just puts it all right out there for Roni to take or discard. I can’t wait to see what is up next!
The narration by Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan was fabulous! I’ve been noticing Jennifer Mack more and more in audiobooks. I have found that I really like her performances. As Veronica, she portrayed that hope that Veronica seemed to exude. But she was also struggling with grief. I felt that in Mack’s voice. She really does a great job of bring life to characters. Jacob Morgan has been a favorite male narrator for the past several years. I just feel like he has that alpha male voice going on. Quincy’s character certainly gives off that alpha vibe, he also has a softer side to him. Morgan seems to add the pulse to the characters he portrays. I just enjoy his audio so much!

A sweet, sexy and highly emotional drama. Two lost souls who miraculously find each other, and eventually learn to trust in each other. Quincy Gritt didn’t have the best start in life, with a mother who didn’t care he went off the rails. When things finally start to look up and he’s ready to commit, Veronica ‘Roni’ Westcott is the girl he sees a future with. Roni too has had to fight her demons, and trusting in Quincy has helped her confidence grow. A slow burn with wonderful characters, lots of sexual chemistry, and a story that gave me all the feels. Narrated by Jacob Morgan (got to say he’s a favourite of mine), and Jennifer Mack, both did a fab job of narrating, really bringing the story to life.

This story is part of The Whiskeys, a standalone Small Town Romance. Veronica (Roni) and Quincy’s friends to lovers and slow burn romance is sweet, emotional and beautiful. Quincy, a recovering drug addict, is a handsome, sexy alpha man, caring, and protective. Veronica (Roni), an injured dancer, is smart, and strong. They share a strong and sizzling chemistry. They are opposites attract, but perfect together. I love the strong family bonds, and the amazing friendship in this story. The Dark Knights are handsome. This is a beautiful love story, and a great addition to The Whiskeys. Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan did a wonderful job with the narration. They are perfect as Roni and Quincy. #AudiobookObsession
This is Quincy and Veronica’s love story. Quincy, is a recovering addict. Veronica/Roni, a dancer, was injured by an accident. Quincy and Roni both had emotional baggage they had to get thru before moving forward with their relationship. He knew things may change when he told her about his troubled past.
There were doubts, anxiety, emotional moments. With the love for each other, they could overcome obstacles in their way. His adoration of her shines through throughout this story. I love the interaction, support, they give each other whenever needed.
The Whiskeys and the Dark Knights never know a stranger. When Quincy introduced Roni to them, she was overwhelmed by their kindness and friendship.
Jennifer Mack and a Jacob Morgan phenomenal narration shows Roni and Quincy at their strongest, weakest and most vulnerable moments. Their voices and personalities for each character were spot on! Their ability to transition from one character to the other is flawless.

Overcoming their pasts
Quincy and Roni both have pasts they wish they could forget but it is what made them who they are today so there is no escaping it but when their friendship grows to something more they need to tell the other just how bad their childhoods were and hope they can move past them to a future with each other.
This is a book about healing and learning and moving on. It is a slow burn love affair where Quincy and Roni are friends long before they allow it to be more so when they do come together the sparks really fly.
Jennifer Mack and Jacob Morgan did a great job. I love listening to Jacob, this was my first listening to Jennifer and she was great.
I enjoyed listening to this book.
The Gritty Truth
The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor
By: Melissa Foster
Narrated by: Jennifer Mack, Jacob Morgan
When we met Quincy in Tru Blue, I was hoping he was going to get his own story and was thrilled to be able to listen! Quincy has had it hard. A terrible childhood with a mother who not only neglected him but turned him to drugs left him on a path to destruction. The only light is his older brother Tru who does his best to help him. Now after hitting rock bottom, he is ready to start living again. When he meets Roni, he is taken with her and is ready to pursue. Roni is a tough cookie! She is insecure with herself, and is unsure anyone will ever love her. But this Quincy does what he can to prove her wrong. The only thing is once a drug addict, anything could trigger Quincy back down the dark road. Will she be able to live with that? Will he accept her as she is? Will he resort back to his habit? This is a beautifully sweet story and Melissa Foster knows exactly how to tell it. Tugging my heart strings, making me love these two, she lets me fall in love while dealing with real life issues. I love her books, always giving me that feeling of community, and this one gives us the Whiskey’s in full force! It’s like coming home and enjoying my time with the Dark Knights. It’s another fantastic addition to the series and my favorite so far!
Jacob Morgan and Jennifer Mack team up to give us this beautiful love story to our ears. They are perfectly cast. Morgan is a talent, and he falls into character as Quincy, the loving man, recovering addict perfectly. He gives him an honest feel, and we know exactly where he stands with his inflections. Mack comes in as a slightly insecure Roni, and we get to hear her gain confidence with the nuances Mack uses. It’s a great listen and I would love more from these two.

These two definitely have some baggage that they are carrying from their pasts. I love seeing the strength they had on their own and how stronger it became when they began to confide and lean on each other. All the characters in this book are so full of depth you can’t help but fall in love with each and every one. An amazing book with fantastic narration.
FANTASTIC! Tru Blue was my first Melissa Foster, and is one of my favorite stories, re-reads, covers, everything! I just wanted to hug Quincy all the time in Tru & Gemma’s story, and was ECSTATIC when he got his own book! It took me a while to read said book, however, because I knew it would be super emotional.
It definitely IS a super emotional read – but not in a bad way by any means! Quincy & Roni’s connection is immediately felt, and the story gripped me from the beginning. I love the foundation of friendship they built before she agreed to go out with him – and the set up for their first date is SO SWOONY!!
Their story is full of joy, friendship, love, family… I’m so happy to be able to add it to my top 2020 reads, and also my favorites & re-read shelves!!
: )
I enjoyed reading this book and the whole series
Foster does it again with this emotional, gritty romance –I couldn’t put it down!
I have been looking forward to Quincy’s story from the moment I met him in Tru Blue. I knew from reading Tru Blue he had a horrible childhood with his teen years going on to adulthood being the worst experience of his life. Despite having this knowledge, I needed to learn about his past from his perspective and Gritty Truth delivered in this regard. The story turned out to be an emotional story that engaged the reader from start to finish. Tru Blue is still my number one book in the series with Gritty Truth coming a close second. It gave me all the feels and falling in love with Quincy and Roni came naturally.
Based on Quincy’s background, I expected an emotional read, and Gritty Truth did not disappoint. It was heartfelt, and I loved everything this story offered. I enjoyed spending time with the major characters and getting myself acquainted with every aspect of their lives. Quincy and Roni survived the terrors of their past, but they still carried the baggage associated with it. Quincy battles drug addiction daily and has reached his second year of being drug free. Roni had her dreams shattered but found a different outlet to use her talent. They were strong, determined and flawed individuals who made an adorable couple. They both had difficulties growing up, but seeing them discovering the beauty of first love and working through their issues made my heart leap for joy.
Quincy’s honesty, genuineness, kindness and thoughtfulness won me over. I admired him for revealing the truth to Roni, a moment which brought tears to my eyes, but what really tugged at my heartstrings was Roni’s unwavering support. She accepted him and never once did she doubt or judged him.
I had a blast revisiting with the Whiskeys. They are fun, non-judgmental, caring, always willing to help other and very supportive of family and friends.
Overall, I found Gritty Truth to be a beautiful and emotional story with characters who were easy to fall in love with. It ended on a beautiful note and had me eager for the next book in the series.
This book has a wonderful blend of sweet and sexy. There were a lot of facing truths and past pain with only a tiny bit of angst thrown in. Quincy and Roni’s love story has all the feels. Quincy is a recovering heroin addict and Roni’s whole life was dedicated to becoming a professional dancer before an accident made that dream impossible. Roni’s friends won her a date with Quincy at a bachelor auction six months ago and Quincy has been patiently building their friendship since that time via text messages one interaction at a time, while Roni avoids going on the date she “won.” Once Quincy hits his two year date of being clean, he kicks his romancing up a notch to a date Roni cannot refuse by showing up on her doorstep with the date waiting around the corner. Watching Quincy slowly and gently showing Roni who he is as a man and who they could be together was a beautiful thing to be a loving witness to. The book shows the dark side of drug addiction but also brings in the light of recovery and redemption. All of Melissa Foster’s books have a central theme of family – those we are born into and those we create. This book is no different. The Dark Knights love hard and they love by surrounding you with goodness and strength. Throughout this beautifully paced story of Quincy and Roni’s HEA, they each have to deal with their difficult and lonely childhoods, the scars of their pasts, and their fear of the future. With the Gritty Truth, Melissa Foster once again proves she’s a fantastic storyteller. This is Book 7 of the Whiskeys, Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor series and I cannot wait to read which family member I am going to fall in love with next.
Read: 10/24/2020
The Gritty Truth was the seventh book in The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor by Melissa Foster.
Quincy Gritt and Veronica “Roni” Westcot were introduced to us previously but they weren’t a couple yet. Foster took us through their friendship and relationship development while unraveling the many layers beneath each one.
I’ve waited so long for Quincy and it was well worth the wait. We met Quincy in book one, Tru Blue, when Quincy’s brother’s story, Truman, unfolded. Quincy was not a pretty picture at the time, but Foster blessed us with watching his progression through the series to the man that was brought to us in The Gritty Truth. For that reason alone, I recommend reading the series in order – or at least book one, prior to this one.
Overall, The Gritty Truth was a journey of hope and new beginnings. I enjoyed the man Quincy became and I enjoyed that Foster didn’t brush over addiction. No spoilers since we already knew about Quincy’s prior drug usage, but we now learned his every day struggles and his commitment to his family and friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and OMG Lincoln and “booful” were a bonus! You have to read it to see!
Another success for Foster and I can’t wait to read more!
Love this series so much!! What a fabulous addition! Don’t miss it!
