This book needed a reread (well, this time it was a listen on Audible). I think I bought this book when the movie first came out and I was in middle school or just going into high school. It was powerful then, but this time around it seemed to hit harder. Perhaps there’s just more that I understand now. Not much I can say that hasn’t already been …
If someone were to ask me what book I have read that affected me the most emotionally, there would be no hesitation, The Green Mile. I have laughed, cheered, been so angry I wanted to scream, and cried, bawled and succummed to despair. The movie was good, but the book is amazing.
i didnt understand the beginning of the book but once the ending came everything started to fall into place you need to read this book!
I read this book when it came out in serial form…so I had to wait for each segment. That was torture. Stephen King’s characters are haunting and sometimes painfully real. The story had much to say about what it means to be human, and who the real monsters are. Highly recommended.
Well written in the King-best fashion that makes you hear the people speaking and you would swear you can smell the sweat.
King originally released this novel in chapter book form. It was six pieces if I remember correctly, and they showed up every few weeks at grocery stores. I have the original short books that later became this very long one. It’s the most engaging of his books and I am a lifelong Constant Reader of his. I adore this book and the film adaptation of …
I know that Stephen King is known for amazing horror stories. But this book is different, you will love the characters, hate the bad guys, and hope the “killer” somehow escapes punishment. Not horror, but an amazing story about fabulous people, just doing their jobs, and a sweet man who only wanted to help. It will become your new Favorite book of …
I swear it’s the best book I’ve read in my life. I can’t explain it, but the words of the book just played me in the thoughts like a smooth melody. For the past two days, I hadn’t been able to break away from the thoughts about John. True, this is a different period, but the magical combination of what was real and took place in reality and the …
LOVE THE GREEN MILE. SUCH AN INTERESTING STORY ABOUT SO MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND HOW THEY COME TOGETHER. NO OTHER BOOK I HAVE READ IS LIKE THIS ONE. TOTALLY UNIQUE.
I absolutely loved this book
What a heart-breaking, but also heart-warming, tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie years ago, but somehow missed that the story was written by Stephen King. Never having been drawn to King’s other writings (so, never having read his material!) I was decided to read this book to 1.) try him out, and 2.) see how the book fared versus the screenplay.
The book was a success in both categories. I …
I love this book, and re-read it every so often. I enjoyed the fact that it was made into a movie as well. I also have a copy of the movie in VHS & DVD formats. I especially liked the fact that he brought this book out in a 7 part mini series before bringing the full book out to the public. I lost my collection of 7 part mini series back in …
I love when horror writers like Stephen King go outside of their typical genre a bit and delve into the elements of psychology and the horrors within… This is a prime example. John Coffey is such an amazing character, and the surrounding characters and even the setting of The Mile itself offer such tremendous support in painting an evocative …
So touching,
In my opinion, this is one of King’s best. While it does require some suspending of your disbelief (but not to the extent of many of his other). Excellent character building and an interesting conclusion. Recommended.
This is the book that made me a Stephen King fan.
Simply Amazing!
It’s Stephen King. Either like him or not. i do
Love this book. Stephen King is my favorite author, unless he inserts his political views into his writing.
